Moving to Perth may be an easier sell.

I only see the Cows offering that if they have some fear that he may head back to Perth anyway, otherwise 13 and Mitch McGovern (IMO) is a bit overs.
West Coast should probably swing another draft pick Adelaide's way but otherwise it's a fairly even trade.

Luckily for us, Duggan hasn't got a heap of exposed form, which drops his value.

I get that but I reckon McGovern will be a absolute star , at least top 5 at the crows shortly, that's why I reckon (if he is on the table to WCE) they must fear he's may head there anyway.

Few online sources indicated no Adelaide players wanting to come to Carlton. Gibbs wants to go to Adelaide.

What does that say about us? I'm worried. :(
What it says is that officially we are 22 games into a 66 game rebuild and Adelaide is challenging for a flag.

NBTJ35 We are really on the beginning of something which I have not felt in a long time.(Believe!!!)

I don't want anything from them except take Gibbs and get everything in picks we can from them. We are coming from a long way back but we are imho ******* committed!

Are you basing that on 5AA? It was just Bickley hypothesising how a WA club might try and intervene
Ahh, okay. So nothing in it..
I mean, it could happen, as this whole thing has been well documented, but I guess not likely..

Back to normal programming..

It's not that funny. Gibbs at 28 is worth our 13 and a player. Kids like McGovern or Cameron might have peaked, and if so, would be fair in that deal. But I doubt we'll be trading a player with a not yet determined ceiling. We're not even pushing Lyons out yet, so that should give you an idea of what's on the table. Gibbs will almost certainly remain a Blue, cannot see a deal getting done. Good news for Carlton fans.

Trouble for you is that it seems as though the CFC had zero plans to trade Gibbs and with him being contracted for 3 more years they aren't even remotely interested in a fair trade as the only fair result is him staying.

2017 1st has to be in it because it holds currency with gws to get the players we want so it with 13 have to be in the trade and you can haggle over what we give you back.
This is spot on. You don't want or need to give him up. Unless you get overs, he stays. We won't pay overs, he's just a player who's come to us because it allows him to move back to Adelaide. As I said from the get go, this situation has 'no deal' written all over it.

They think they are challenging for a flag.

People/defenders will have worked out Josh Jenkins by next year. I also believe Taylor Walker's output has been limited by injury- sore foot, knee etc. 12 games and he came 5th in their b&f.
Their midfield doesn't bat deep in A grade talent...even if Gibbs goes there.
Put a tagger on Sloane. West Coast humbled them in round 23 with Sloane not there.
West Coast have a much better midfield, so too GWS, so too Bulldogs, so too Sydney...so really they are about 5th in row. If that is worth leaving a club for ...for a one in five chance. So be it.
Nevertheless, crazy things can happy...so who knows maybe they have a better shot than 1 in 5. I am hoping otherwise and will be going for GWS or West Coast next year. The best of a rotten bunch of clubs.

Yeah he could be but if you want Gibbs because your club thinks he will push them closer to a premiership then you have to give up a player who may not be ready right now but may be in a couple of years. That is what you have to weigh up.........present time or later needs, because you cannot have it both ways and expect to get Gibbs for nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So if we were anchored to the bottom he'd be cheaper? He's not more valuable to you because we think he's the difference between 6th and top 4. His value is his value, you don't get to cash in on our perceived premiership window. We should pay whatever he's worth as a player, with a margin fir error either side. But this infantile idea that we should overpay because he'll elevate us from 6th to 3rd is absurd. Every trade is based upon upon the player improving the acquiring team, that's shy they're traded. Paying a premium to the seller because you might be near the top makes no sense at all.

No one expects Gibbs for nothing. But nor do most expect to pay any more than his value as a player. He came to us, which forced you to come to us. Not getting him is not a loss. We'll just continue on, as you will with Gibbs.

Not surprised at all. These idiots are fast developing a bad rep at the trade table. Only hurts them.

They courted a valuable contracted player in our side and won't offer us anything of value in return.
He and you came to us. Worth remembering that. You could have denied his desire to leave and enforced his contract, but you're trying to sell him. This is why there's a gulf between the parties and the deal will not get done. Carlton are negotiating based on Adelaide being on their knees begging for a player. Adelaide are negotiating based on a player begging to come to them. It's unlikely that middle ground will be found, so Gibbs will end up remaining a Blue. Unlikely to be a win:win, but almost certainly a draw:draw.

This is really intriguing. Crows greedily holding on to any potential gun just in case, but unlikely to win a flag with the midfield they have, hoping to trade off fringe players for decent second rounders. Quite the conundrum they have here.
Which fringe players are we trying to trade? CEY is staying, Lyons is desperate to stay and we are still negotiating. There's only Dear, Cheney and Wigg that remain unsigned who are fringe. Odd conundrum. We just continue on as normal without Gibbs. We won't win a flag with him anyway, no different to most sides. He's not the difference, we need at least 2 of him and even then we'd be relying on luck.

It says that they're playing finals next season and we're not. Nothing we didn't know already.
No-one would want to be traded out of a top 8 club just to allow a prodigal son to come home.

Lyons was offered up though and Dear's name is being bandied about by the fans.

Lyons was lowballed. Seems the Crows are happy to let him go.

It's just strange that a club is so happy with its list that it can't let anybody but fringe players go but also wants to trade in A graders from somewhere else with only one plan ... #13 or bust.

It just feels like the announcement was supposed to embarrass us into taking your pick so we didn't look like we were blindsided.

Should have left it to his manager to leak his intentions.

I'm sceptical of this "just need player A and we will have a premiership team" thinking. When has that ever worked?

So it'd be nice to have Gibbs, but as he'll be 28 I'd be just as happy to have pick #13 ....we should get a pretty good player with a decade's service ahead. (We got Smith and Talia and Lever around that pick number). Not getting Gibbs and keeping #13 would not be a disaster for us. I'd be happy to retain our first round picks for this year and next.

Can't see a deal happening here, no great disaster for either team in that event. ..... But maybe not so great for Carlton as Gibbs doesn't want to be there, his team mates and the fans will know that. Hmm.
