Lyons was offered up though and Dear's name is being bandied about by the fans.

Lyons was lowballed. Seems the Crows are happy to let him go.

It's just strange that a club is so happy with its list that it can't let anybody but fringe players go but also wants to trade in A graders from somewhere else with only one plan ... #13 or bust.

It just feels like the announcement was supposed to embarrass us into taking your pick so we didn't look like we were blindsided.

Should have left it to his manager to leak his intentions.
The mistake you are making is thinking Lyons is a fringe player.

He has been lowballed because we know we need to lose a player and unfortunately we have too many of his type. He wants to stay and lowballing him is our only leverage.

He was a regular 22 player in a side that finished 6th, we aren't talking about a guy who came in and out of the side or is coming from a bottom team.

You need to have a look at his stats for the year, they were quite good and he also knows how to kick a goal.

He would easily finish in the top 10 of your B&F and figure highly.

Add that to a quality player you could pick up at 13 and you guys aren't being lowballed.

I'm sceptical of this "just need player A and we will have a premiership team" thinking. When has that ever worked?

So it'd be nice to have Gibbs, but as he'll be 28 I'd be just as happy to have pick #13 ....we should get a pretty good player with a decade's service ahead. (We got Smith and Talia and Lever around that pick number). Not getting Gibbs and keeping #13 would not be a disaster for us. I'd be happy to retain our first round picks for this year and next.

Can't see a deal happening here, no great disaster for either team in that event. ..... But maybe not so great for Carlton as Gibbs doesn't want to be there, his team mates and the fans will know that. Hmm.
That is pretty much how Hawthorn just won three in a row.
I agree it wouldn't be a disaster at all if you miss out on Gibbs and you shouldn't be trading out best 22 players. It just depends if Adelaide think they can improve more then the Dogs who have about four players to come into thier side next year, GWS ect by going to the draft or weather you roll the dice and top up and go for it now. Personally I don't think Gibbs will make a big enough difference to make you premiership side but even less chance by going to the draft when GWS is doing this and is already ahead of you and will hold better picks.

This is spot on. You don't want or need to give him up. Unless you get overs, he stays. We won't pay overs, he's just a player who's come to us because it allows him to move back to Adelaide. As I said from the get go, this situation has 'no deal' written all over it.
So if we were anchored to the bottom he'd be cheaper? He's not more valuable to you because we think he's the difference between 6th and top 4. His value is his value, you don't get to cash in on our perceived premiership window. We should pay whatever he's worth as a player, with a margin fir error either side. But this infantile idea that we should overpay because he'll elevate us from 6th to 3rd is absurd. Every trade is based upon upon the player improving the acquiring team, that's shy they're traded. Paying a premium to the seller because you might be near the top makes no sense at all.

No one expects Gibbs for nothing. But nor do most expect to pay any more than his value as a player. He came to us, which forced you to come to us. Not getting him is not a loss. We'll just continue on, as you will with Gibbs.
He and you came to us. Worth remembering that. You could have denied his desire to leave and enforced his contract, but you're trying to sell him. This is why there's a gulf between the parties and the deal will not get done. Carlton are negotiating based on Adelaide being on their knees begging for a player. Adelaide are negotiating based on a player begging to come to them. It's unlikely that middle ground will be found, so Gibbs will end up remaining a Blue. Unlikely to be a win:win, but almost certainly a draw:draw.
You know this how!

Lyons is not a dud but he is the last type of player teams want. It is easy to find players like him

Ventured over to the asylum that is the Adelaide board for a laugh. Highly recommended, especially after a few Barossa reds. These guys make Richmond supporters look sane.
It became evident this week if that's even possible TFD.

Alot of crows members will be super pissed if you guys miss out, imagie next year..... should a, coulda, woulda...........

Triggy has trained you well. Im sure your website hits are up as well.
Well i am a 52 year old business manager who doesnt try to point score but your line regarding "internet hits" probably shows who you really are.
I believe using statements like this continually degrade BF.
If you look at my profile I don't continually post for the sake of it.

Good luck to you.

Well why haven't you?
i think you'll find we have plenty of list-cloggers. ;) It's nice and all that Lyons has had a break out year, finally, at age 24.

But does he have any actual trade currency? A bloke we picked up as a delisted free agent couldn't command a spot on your list ahead of Lyons but Matty Wright was this year just as serviceable.

And that's my point, we delisted Wright and he finished high in your B&F. We kept Lyons over Wright and Lyons is a much better footballer.

Surely the age of Gibbs is a factor, and despite being contracted, ain't worth 2 first rounders.

Pick #13 and a halfway decent young player is a fair and reasonable deal. We're years away from finals contention, its not like losing Gibbs will have any medium-long term repercussions. We must be flexible and try accommodate Bryce and his family's wishes..

I'm DVB, that's my take.
He wants go. Damage done. Let him go. I am happy to step back next year in wins if I can see the development of another 4-5 talented kids that will lead us back to the top. Pick 13 & a second rounder is fair

Crows posters seem pretty happy to part with pick 13 & Lyons - a good indication that SOS is on the money when rejecting that deal. Whatever they give for Gibbs, it's gotta at least hurt a little. Same as losing Gibbs for us.
Spot on.

If the starting position is 13 + Lyons is just the opening offer.

They are seriously committed to him, publicly.

He is seriously committed to us, contractually.

We are in a great position.
