Champion Data expert.
Tell me about it.

With less than 1 contested possession (10.4 to 9.5), there's really not much in it anyway. So the fact that the uncontested style of player (Gibbs) is almost winning as many contested possessions as the contested style of player (Lyons) must've completely escaped his expert mind.

Not to mention, Gibbs averages more disposals so that would bring the percentage down a bit too.

Interesting.

I wonder if they control for a player's teams performance?
Not really, which, alongside ball telemetry, is a huge gap in their data set.

Here's a good video:

Bit of a misnomer calling it the most data rich sport in the world too, especially given it's probably the most numerous in terms of players on the field.

Agreed..stats can be presented and manipulated in many ways, but I still think some of the things he mentions are interesting.

Lol SOS is still living in GWS fantasy land :drunk:
Fantasy land is trying to get a premium, contracted mid on the cheap.

Perhaps you should go away? You're not adding a lot. You and your buddies can't seem to get past the idea that Lyons is a below average player, who has been offered below average wages by your club.

If you think he's just been sitting on the half forward line you haven't been watching him play.

He's also played midfield. He is averaging only 5 possessions less s game than Gibbs, only 50 metres gained less a game but more contested possessions.
He plays without a tag...

Your stats are floored...

He has already been scratched off the list as we do not want him...

It will be 2x first rounders or he stays, pretty simple..

Lyons never achieved that before this year because of the bloody subvest and our own coaches preference to play ordinary senior players like Wright.

His first year of getting a decent go and he achieves an average over 20 and this is with us giving preference to playing Thommo in he middle. With more time in the middle do you expect his output to go backwards?

As for 13, it's supposed to be a decent draft. Surely you'd back your recruiters to get it right? What pick was Cripps?
If Lyons is that good then why dont you up your contract offer to him and keep him?

Seems as though Gibbs is staying then.

I think it's also the term first rounder that somehow conjures up some notion that a 200 game jet is attached.
If......and it's a big if.....Adelaide pay up, we may effectively be holding a #13 and a future ~#16.

It's good of course, but it really isn't that great.

Where's the stat for good decision making?

I'll take a stab in the dark and say that Gibbs' decision making shits all over Lyons', but without the champion data stat I can't be too sure. Maybe I should ask the expert...

If Lyons is better than Gibbs then Adelaide must keep him and forget about Gibbs.
This article has changed my views completely on this entire deal, we really need to grab this Lyons bloke whos a genuine A-grader and a better player than Gibbs maybe something like 5+gibbs for lyons? work your magic SOS

If that goes down I can't see us holding the future pick- think the Geelong pick from last year.

I wonder if Adelaide offer there second rounder plus there first and Lyons.....would we bite

13 and 5 for the draft
Lyons for the midfield
24 for Marchbank and Pickett
Or next years first for the GWS boys and 16

5 - 13 - 16.......25......35......plus what we get for Zach

I'd do that

Jeez some people are getting fired up..I never said that Lyons was a gun, or that we should accept the deal, just shared an article that brings up some interesting stats. I know Gibbs is worth more than what the Crows are offering and have full confidence that SOS will work something out.
