This article has changed my views completely on this entire deal, we really need to grab this Lyons bloke whos a genuine A-grader and a better player than Gibbs maybe something like 5+gibbs for lyons? work your magic SOS
Ok, we will take him on top of the 2 first rounders...

I wonder if Adelaide offer there second rounder plus there first and Lyons.....would we bite

13 and 5 for the draft
Lyons for the midfield
24 for Marchbank and Pickett
Or next years first for the GWS boys and 16

5 - 13 - 16.......25......35......plus what we get for Zach

I'd do that
Surely you don't mean our first next year?

Well

If we get overs back for it I'd look at it

It's also clears the decks for a big FA and if he nominates us his club would be stupid to match because our first rounder is gone.......
GWS boys and #16 is not overs. Next year, we're likely finishing bottom 3. Unless, we can get #6 and #10 off GC this year, I'm not interested in giving it up.

What about a year younger? Or a year younger than that? Or ... you get it.
Yes TODN I get it, very clear how to do an analysis of both Gibbs and Lyon.

I don't get swayed by people's opinions or emotions.

My thoughts of what the trade value is worth, hasn't change from day 1

Anyway, who cares about Lyons. We don't want him and AFC don't really rate him, thus the insulting contract offer.
Time to move on. Won't be giving up Gibbs for spare change smack bang in the middle of a reset
No decent offer, no Gibbs. Simple as that.
If Lyons was part of an "overs" offer, it would be foolish not to take him

We are likely to finish bottom 3 next year, assuming Gibbs and 2E are gone, so trading our 2017 first round pick is extremely foolish.

Have yet to see any compelling argument for retaining Gibbs, considering we won't contend for a flag in the few years he has left, and is hardly a champion of the club or a club great.

People have to be more pragmatic and stop viewing Gibbs with Rose tinted.glasses.. He simply isn't that good, Marc Murphy will be back fit and firing next season, and giving more games to Cuninghan is essential.

And no, a fair and impartial judge of football would say that a 28 year old with no AA guernseys or any major awards, bar a solitary B and F is worth 2 first round picks.

Reckon the unreasonable/stubborn stance is a two way street by both clubs right now.

After much consternation I have tweaked my position on trading Bryce Gibbs a top 10 and a top 20 pick, will do it btw I read this on talking carlton board so it's no great inspiration of my but I agree it's spot on..
Very simple, fair compensation.

not that highlights mean all that much...

but here is Lyons 50 game highlights...
a couple of overhead marks, some tackles and opportunistic goals in a forward line where nobody would be paying him any attention... i'm thinking Dennis Armfield minus the dodgy tats... not one clearance highlight in ALL of those contested possessions

Jeez some people are getting fired up..I never said that Lyons was a gun, or that we should accept the deal, just shared an article that brings up some interesting stats. I know Gibbs is worth more than what the Crows are offering and have full confidence that SOS will work something out.
I wasn't having a go at you in my sarcastic post it was in reference to the arrogant and downright disrespectful champion data bloke who would take lyons and 13 for gibbs in a heartbeat

It's a natural response to selective stats.

stats are great. i'm not sold on this contested/uncontested argument though... Cripps gets huge contested ball but partly due to him working to his strengths. Many of Cripps possession are contested because his strength is taking a tackle and still finding the open options and setting up a runner. He doesn't look to get ball and stay free, he's happy to spend his time looking for options while hapless tacklers moves in on him... Chris Yarren on the other hand would turn the exact same possession into an uncontested stat.

OMFG everyone. Stop the bus!
We MUST trade for Lyons because he averaged more score involvements than Wright in 2016?
Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that Adelaide averaged something like 8 more goals per week than Carlton, hence more opportunity?
FMFD! (Shakes head in sheer disbelief at all the Lyons bullshit)

WTF? The media are even trying to push us into raw deals now?

They can take their champion data and shove it up their collective clackers.
Exactly.

This media attack has been a common thread. You know when you are only getting one piece of information in anything something is up.

Eg American politics - we are constantly told Donald Trump is an ogre. Yet where are the reports on Bill Clinton? On Hillary Clinton's foundation (50 million taken from the Saudi Arabia plus donations from Qatar), her role in Libya etc? No mainstream media is reporting on this. Something is fishy. Both are extremely distasteful candidates...but why are we fed only one piece of information?

Same principle with this Bryce Gibbs trade - every single media outlet says Carlton should be happy with the scraps at the table. No thanks. It is time to make a stand. Where are the other "media experts"? Does anyone else have anything else to say?

This club (Carlton) represents 160 plus years of meaning something to people. It has to do all to fight for its survival in a system that clearly does not respect the club.

Besides statistics can be framed to argue anyway you want. I could say Whitney Houston is the best artist of all-time as she holds the record for the most consecutive number 1 hits. And then I could put that statistics out completely overlooking any other stat such as the biggest album sale, band with the most number 1s, etc. His stats are framed to supplement his argument.

Here's some stats for you "Champion Data Expert" - Lyons didn't even get in the top 10 of the Adelaide's b&f even if you do "normalise his numbers out over a full match."
