Probably. Which is why it's still a very good chance this trade doesn't happen. Because I don't think the Crows will pay overs (well maybe marginal overs). Our list is far from old so it's not like it's 2017 or bust.

That said, I'd be really surprised if your list management team didn't see this as a win/win.
Carlton are into their 2nd year of a serious rebuild. The experts often say to complete a genuine rebuild you need multiple picks inside the top 20-30 picks.

Of the older guys who may not feature in a potential Carlton premiership, surely Gibbs holds the currency for you. Even if only pick 13 & steak knives. I know if it was AFC our bigfooty board would be super keen to trade out one of our gun older players if a premiership wasn't within his reach.

I agree with your points. Anyone of the age of Gibbs that has high value would be considered depending what the gain is. I still think we trade Gibbs, as we both agree, as long as it's for overs.

You want less overs, we want more, will be somewhere near the middle

Gibbs could play for 6 years. Nobody thinks we can finish rebuilding and challenge during that time. Pretty shitty rebuild if that's the case.
6 years? With no deterioration? I think we could play finals while Gibbs is still there, but I would be extremely surprised if he played in GF with us

Cripps needs to win us a flag within 6 years or supporters will put him out to pasture too.
He (Gibbs) asked to leave, we need to improve our young midfield stocks. I'm a bit sick of the summation that those of us that want him traded must not rate him, as if it was mutually inclusive. Some of us just know (or think we know) where our list is at and what needs to be done to help it get where it needs to be. None of us have ever specifically expressed a wish to trade Simpson, for a counter example, for obvious reasons.

To be fair to Adelaide, its pretty difficult for them to stump up another first round pick without giving away a required player.

In all honesty,.things would go much more swimmingly if GWS got involved, but they are being annoyingly obstinate.
Who gives a shit about Adelaides situation?
Not me...sounds like you do.
Maybe you should support them?

Simpson never had the currency.

What I am saying is that if we are not contending in 6 years, Cripps will be 28 and some will want to offload him. The shelf life is shorter for valuable players unless we are winning.

We are losing a required player. Why shouldn't the team getting him have to take some pain too?

Did we take pain to get Judd? My word we did.

There is a difference, as I mention we will play finals 2019/20, that's when our window will start. Generally, if you keep that same list together, you will only have a 4 to 5 year opportunity to win a flag.

Side like Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney make brave calls on their list to extend that window

I love how loyal you are to the likes of Gibbs, but keeping him delays our rebuild and or stifles it, as it did for North. They had one of the oldest lists in the last couple of years and still brought in 26+ year old players. Yes they played a couple of years of finals, but now they look like dropping out for a couple

We did the same thing, I am so sick of this yo yo strategy and finally we have people in place that are sick of it too

I'm not loyal to Gibbs. I just want quality back in the trade.

I think some are being a little too bloodthirsty about the trade though. Upset with the club if they don't accept whatever is on offer, upset with Gibbs if he stays.

It's not about how many years he can play. It's about what we'd get from a 33 year old Gibbs vs a talented 24 year old kid entering his peak?

I'd take the latter rather than the former.

Well sounds like we are on the same page then, If Gibbs is traded, we both want overs to help fast track our rebuild

If we're not planning to be in the finals before 2020, we've not been paying attention to the nature of the league. Playing groups aren't going to wait around for 4+ years for us to get our shit together.

We should be making finals by 2020. But we might need a year or 2 before we become contenders.

Bryce will be around 31-32. I'd rather have a young gun instead.

Our list was screwed over by very incompetent drafting over the past 10 years. We are going to take longer to get there than usual. It's unfortunate, but true.

Yes unfortunately very true, some of the recrituing errors have been amateurish and inexpert amazing to be honest for an AFL club of our stature.
Still can't get around to accepting how inept and incompetent it's being , dragging us out of the race for at a decade.
Let's hope that Silvagni & Bolton can slowly repaired the damage.

Who's this young gun we're getting that'll be entering his prime when we are contending?
