One thing I want to remind Adelaide fans re Gibbs. If he wasn't contracted and went to you as a free-agent, Carlton would get Pick 6 in return. So we're not going to be punished because you want to sign a player with 3 years to go on his contract
we should amend his contract and reduce it by 3 years, or is that draft tampering?! Carlton should at least ask AFL the question. If they okayed it, high fives all round, including Adelaide. The team with the pick after us may not be quite as chuffed.

I have no idea how that works. Isn't today the last day to sign a free-agent?
Sunday October 16, 5pm - Close of NAB AFL restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period

Wednesday October 19 - NAB AFL restricted free agency matching offer three-day period ends

I know and think two 2nds for Marchbank and Pickett should do it based on that, BUT their list manager is still discussing #5.
i think even that's too much. steele should be worth more than either of them and our 2nd round picks and in all probability future 2nd rounders are better than the saints'.

And what crows fans need to be reminded of also is that their first round pick this year and next year, roughly equal pick 5

Crows don't want to take a risk on falling down the ladder next year. They have to find a way to conjure up an early 2nd rounder this year and pair that with #13. That would be a compromise and probably better than getting their 2017 first and giving them back our second.

Surely if Lyons was as good as Adelaide fans have suggested he would have been moved on for an early second rounder, which would have been just enough to accompany Pick 13.

The fact is he is a 24-year old, who has only just had a breakout season and is will more than likely regress to the mean once some more quality comes in.

Lyons had a slightly better year than Graham, this being the first year he's surpassed Graham at all. He's also 2 years older than Graham. Compare them at the same age & Graham blows Lyons out of the water. Lyons is barely worth anything

GO YOU CROW BOYS
If it were more serious, I think that
1. We would have known about it and not have been so surprised, and
2. Adelaide would have been more respectful in their dealings
Both those points are debatable but let's take media reports at face value.

What's changed then?

Surely the considered family and premiership chances when inking a 5yr deal?
Why would he go public if not confident it would happen?

Something doesn't add up to me.

Let's hope something happens soon that we can all live with.

No, he had a much better year than Graham.

Lyons is a good footballer who had a break-out year this year, whether he carries that through to next year and beyond is debatable but I'm always skeptical when a player breaks out in their mid 20s.

Carlton has said they're not interested in Lyons in the Gibbs trade, and that's fair enough, but there's no need to completely dismiss Lyons as a footballer.

The club has every right to be angry at Adelaide for leaking the info, but i am a lot angrier at Gibbs for not having the courtesy (or guts) to tell the club weeks ago he wanted to leave.

Surely you don't plan on a whim you're planning to pack up and leave, reckon Gibbs had planned this for months

Much prefer Henderson's departure in hindsight, least he actually had the balls and respect for the footy club plenty of advance time warning, so we could thrash out a decent trade.

Anyhow he's simply got to go #Bryxit2016 (Bryce Exit)

Crows probably need to get a third club involved as a circuit breaker. They need to trade one of their players out to a third party who can re-direct something we are after our way.

Maybe:

Carlton:

Out: Gibbs, Pick 45
In: Pick 11, Pick 26, Pick 32

Adelaide:

Out: Jarryd Lyons, Cam Ellis-Yolman, Harry Dear, Pick 13,
In: Gibbs, Pick 45

North Melbourne:

Out: Pick 32, Pick 11, 2017 third rounder
In: Cam Ellis-Yolman, Harry Dear, Pick 13

Gold Coast:

Out: Pick 26
In: Jarryd Lyons, 2017 third rounder (Nth)

Two points:

1. As stated yesterday, expecting the Gibbs trade will go through Monday/Tuesday. Also that SOS was doing the right thing, sitting back waiting of an "Overs" offer or at the very least, counter offers from Adelaide

What is disturbing, if the reports are true, that SOS is not taking/responding to phone calls from the AFC. This is bordering on unprofessional and or childish. We have to move forward from this mentality and behaviour , as the professional clubs and the most successful clubs

2. Speaking of professional and successful clubs, now that the Tom Mitchell deal has be done, does anyone still think Gibbs is worth 2 first round picks?

Lewis is 30 and a thug........no bash artists for Carlton thanks
I am not saying we trade for lewis but I think Carlton do need a couple of bash artists to protect their team mates. After losing Bell and Robbo who were never that skilled at least they looked after their team mates which is something we are lacking.

I know it doesn't seem it to people but Gibbs is a more valuable player than just his numerical performances.

He is an excellent distributor and decision-maker. The sort of player which coaching staff highly rate.

He has the potential for a much more significant impact than Tom Mitchell who is more the "extractor" model
