I'd ask crows fans to consider the following:
- crows supporters have conceded that if Gibbs was fa, we would have received pick 6 (band 1 compensation)
- the crows wanted Gibbs as they saw him as the last piece of their premiership puzzle - if they genuinely believed that, they would be expecting pick 18
- in points, pick 13 and 18 is worth approximately pick 4
- that 2 pick premium isnt that significant when you consider his 3 years remaining on his contract and the salary cap benefit you would have got for his contract (which Reid would have known was heavily front loaded as he negotiated the original deal)
2 first rounders sounds like a lot, but in the scheme of things, it's not completely unreasonable from our perspective.
I still maintain that what actually cost the crows the deal was Reid's terrible attitude and approach. Announcing on day 1 to be a big shot and take the limelight compromised our deals with gws who were holding out to see what you would give us for Gibbs as a result of reids grandstanding.
IMO - Reid shuts his mouth on day 1, we discuss in private, close out our gws and Geelong deals, and then push this through at the end for a first and a second. I'd be strongly considering moving Reid on - seems out of his depth
