One thing i think to take into account i think is if Gibbs was a free agent with his record and amount of money being paid the blues would get a compensation pick after their first pick which would be pick 6 so why would carlton settle for anything less, when they have done the right thing by the player and signed him to a long contract. 13 and a fringe player doesn't cut it.
Because he's not a free agent and he wants out would be the obvious reply.

The moral of the story is don't approach contracted players that are wanted by their club and then balk at the asking price.
Gibbs wants to come back to SA, he wants out of Carlton, why shouldn't Adelaide or Port approach him.
You make it out that he's being poached. It's not the case.

He has 3 years to go on his contract. He'd never indicated he was unhappy at Carlton. We didn't know he wanted out until the day before ttrade week opened.

I'm betting your club knew he wanted out of Carlton before we did.

You're assuming that and even then it's based on nothing. He wants out....end of story

I don't think a deal will get done, Carlton simply asking for too much.

Plus given the fact Gibbs signed a long term deal means he would still be somewhat content with playing on with the Blues. From what I understand, the transfer to Adelaide is due to convenience rather than a necessity or urgency.

I understand he is not a free agent but doing the right thing by the player and contracting him long term when we could have left him as a free agent and got better compensation i don't see why we would accept anything less than pick 6 or the equivalent.
Because you're not being offered that and you won't get it either. You are, on the other hand, being offered pick 13 and a player who could be another Sam Kerridge. You might win more games next year with Gibbs on your list but Gibbs won't be winning games when Carlton plays in its next premiership campaign. That's why you might find the option for your future a little more enticing than keeping the old guard together.

My point is why would Carlton settle for anything less when he still has 3 years to go on a contract, If you want to poach a player with 3 years to go on a contract the crows should have been better prepared and more professional like Hawthorn are when it comes to these situations as much as i hate praising the Hawks.

Yet so many of you quote Kane Cornes. Who is only good at pushing buttons on a radio show. Bit choosy with who you quote.
You obviously haven't seen the thread dedicated to Kane and Rucci on our board then?

As Bicks himself says "even a blind squirrel trips over a nut every now and then".

This reminds me of the Essendon and Gold Coast Josh Caddy trade, pick 19 and hooker (who was average then) and they wouldn't budge and nor will Carlton. Adelaide jumped the gun breaking the news and their supporters think they are entitled to Gibbs for unders. Carlton hold all the cards so either Adelaide come to the party or he won't be in the tri-colours next year simple.

Pick 13 I get , but was the Kerridge reference meant to be a positive one? I would pprefer that you agreed to take Kerridge back. Probably the most frustrating player on the list.

Mate, we have been after Gibbs since he was a Teenager. Why should we feel obliged to bend over for him now that it has become a choice of convenience for both your club and the player?
Nah you are the only party that will cop any form of resentment if you fail to get this done.
It's not a "choice of convenience" for Carlton. The Crows are trying to get their hands on a required player who is under long term contract. Carlton don't necessarily wanna let him go and have said it would take a compelling deal for them to do a trade. Fair enough if that's the case! Carlton have no obligation to do a deal it feels doesn't adequately compensate them, just as Adelaide have no obligation to "bend over for him".

It's just the assumption Gibbs would return to Carlton disgruntled and resenting the club. I don't see it as a given. He likes the club and has great friends there. I reckon it could well run the other way and he plays into career best form. Either way, I'm sure our clubs are gonna work something out sooner or later.

28yo, one time B&F in a team that has been in the bottom 8 for most of his career. Good player but no where near elite.
Not elite hey then illuminate us all what is an elite player? The Crows would be dribbling with joy if they were to acquire Bryce Gibbs for pick 13 and Lyons.
1st rounders 2016 & 2017 and may be we'll toss in and return our 2nd rounder 2016.
That's some what closer to the mark.
A securiely contracted former 1 pick quality talent and durable footballer don't come cheap.

Umm even Kane Cornes is telling Carlton to get on with it

Rucci is being Rucci however
Same Kane Cornes that is in business with Rory Sloane?

Same Kane Cornes that said this 3 days ago

Including talking up Gibbs' talent and what he would bring to the Crows, and downplaying age saying he will go another 5 years.

Then suddenly the Tom Mitchell trade goes through and he changes his mind.

Why are Carlton fans so upset at Adelaide.. They've been interested in Gibbs since they got boned by F/S system. Gibbs signing a 5 year deal two years before deciding he wanted to leave is not the fault of Adelaide.
Because the Crows announced it without working out if they even had the currency to pay for it, and without us even agreeing that we would try to trade out a contracted player.

The best thing for Carlton in the short term is if Gibbs is pissed off

If Adelaide can't get the deal done then maybe he'll entertain offers from other clubs. Sure he wants to go home to mummy but if that's not happening then another club might satisfy Carlton and his desire to play for a contender.

No they don't ,poor Gibbs won't be able to live back at the bay

And bretty bolton will have to continue to play a player in his team that doesn't want to be there

Isn't he on record as saying he despises that and he only wants players who are wanting to be there. Oh well poor Bolton will have to compromise his beliefs, doesn't strike me the sort to do that
