Exactly. The question for AFC is will both crouches stand up so you don't need Gibbs to win a flag. Or, how much are your chances improved if you bring Gibbs in, particularly with the stand-up bros.

The philosophy you ascribe to Bolton was actually in place at CFC before he was appointed on 25.08.15. Henderson was denied a place in the team for the last 3 matches as a result. IMO CFC were wrong and disrespectful to approach LH in that way and I hope Bolton would not treat a listed player in that way.

As to the philosophy itself, it is obviously NOT non-negotiable but must depend on all the circumstances. Were GWS wrong to stand up to McCarthy and send a message to the list that they were not going to be bent over just because a player went home? Dills will say they were because they got less for him this year than last and lost him for this year anyway. But if that loss was the price paid for the message to contracted players "stand out of footy for a year if you want to walk" it will have long term benefits we can never gauge.

Was Richmond wrong to deny Wayne Campbell a transfer to the doggies only to see him become Capt the next year? Hardly (and it is the mistake-riddled RFC I am talking about).

In the case of Gibbs, there is no suggestion he has any problem with the CFC. He just wants to go home for understandable family reasons. The same reasons that will make him all the more determined to perform as well as he can in the next 3 years whereever he plays.
I get your point, but Wayne Campbell would universally be recognised as one of the worst AFL captains and was a soft squib as well. So yes they were wrong to keep him as he guided the team that played the most bruise free football in living memory. Terrible leader and a very average footballer.

This account literally just makes things up.

I don't understand why, if the Crows don't want to meet the asking price, they just don't go after Tom Rockcliff? He is much cheaper, and according to most Crows supporters, is just as good.

Who ever can hold their nerve the longest will win but need to be prepared to walk. If they deal affects other deals it puts you at an enormous disadvantage at the table maybe that's why SOS is getting frustrated

The best thing for Carlton in the short term is if Gibbs is pissed off

If Adelaide can't get the deal done then maybe he'll entertain offers from other clubs. Sure he wants to go home to mummy but if that's not happening then another club might satisfy Carlton and his desire to play for a contender.
sad you no longer have a mother or if you do you don't think much of her - there's help for that stuff

The way Carlton is handling this is pretty poor. What was the point in turfing Kernahan to take a new direction, and then appointing Silvagni? More amateur mismanagement from a club determined to stay in the 1970s.

Kernahan was president and stood down as he had reached his mandated time. Silvagni is the list manager. How are they remotely comparable?

Actually we have told Gibbs' manager to work out a trade solution with Adelaide and come back to us.
To be honest its starting to sound we're acting like a petulent child.

We're suppposed to be rebuilding, pick 13 is worth more to us moving forward than having Bryce Gibbs around for another 3 years on big money.

Would dare say you have more involvement than that if other trades are affected by this one wouldn't you?
Other trades were intended to be done before this happened. This probably only serves to make GWS wonder what might be around.

Don't think that's the case at all. A lot of gamesmanship in this trade and I can understand that. Carlton want to send a message to all and sundry that they are not push overs and that's OK. Sure the deal will get done and that all this faux angst will be forgotten.

That's your opinion though. If Carlton think Gibbs can take some weight of Cripps for the next 5-6 years, it needs to be factored in.

How long before Pick 13 becomes a top 2 midfielder and how beat up will Cripps be by then?

We did that last year with Henderson. Time to follow through now with showing we are going to build through the draft and not hang onto aging players until they are worth nothing in trades.

A lot of players hit their peak at this age. This isn't Logan's Run.

Gibbs doesn't take any weight off Cripps. Curnow and Murphy does that.

Gibbs is an outside midfielder who we can get something for now to build for the future.

As it stands Brisbane, Freo, Gold Coast, Essendon(teams that finished around the bottom with us) all will pass us by this draft IF we give up pick 5 for a bunch of boken down and GWS offcasts.

I suggest you look at the clearance stats the last few seasons. You may realise that Gibbs has become quite the inside/out hybrid. More damaging inside than Murphy or Curnow.

Well I'd be happy to see it done, but if that means we have to let SOS swing his dick for a while then so be it. Also think that it doesn't help when we have no Footy Director currently and Justin Reid is filling that role, who was Gibbs' former player manager who would have been involved in the 5 year deal originally. Not too many player managers that have great relationships with clubs these days.

His peak means nothing to us. We won't be winning anything during his peak.
It means nothing to you. The club may value him higher than you do and I'm pretty sure they get paid good money to make actual decisions.

I just go with my eyes.

Curnow and Murphy take the hard hits far more than Gibbs does.
Not talking about hits. I'm talking about working in the trenches. Gibbs is a bigger bodied mid and stands in tackles far more than the others.

I too have eyes and recognised the transition back in 2014 when he won the B&F.
