This is cold comfort given how closely tied they are to gambling companies now.
I don't know whether they are or not. I know some of the clubs are whining themselves off of their reliance.

I agree with you on the gambling adds. I get sick of the saturation and messaging.

Carey on TF said he knows for a fact that Gibbs was dropped because 3 goals resulted from him not being where he was supposed to be against Brisbane.
I'd believe Carey. So hows Talia feeling right now [emoji16]

Would be so hypocritical if Gibbs got dropped due to a gambling debt. Just look how close the AFL is with the gambling companies these days. It's ******* disgusting. I can't believe an organisation that is as utterly obsessed with their public image as the AFL, thinks it's perfectly fine to be in cahoots with gambling companies. Just goes to show that money is more important to them than integrity. Advertising gambling during sporting broadcasts shouldn't be even be legal in the first place.

Agree 100%
I can’t stand the Neds Bet LED signage getting around the Adelaide Oval this year, get rid of it!

The salary issue is a concern. We have guys whose star is on the rise and performing well who will need to be compensated while at the same time, if injuries do not blow out, we will have Jenkins and Gibbs in the seconds drawing down good coin for over three and a half and two and a half seasons respectively.
We may need to cut our losses and pay half of his salary to another club. Would free up 300k. Depends if he was welcome to a move as apparently came back for family reasons. Some scuttlebug it was more than that. The other option is that he retires and he and the club negotiate a reduced settlement. If he is having some issues outside of football the club should at least inform supporters so the media drops their narrative about him.

Been taken down a few notches by Pyke. You would never have seen that at Lolton.

Interesting that Greenwood also copped some strong feedback after the Lions game (it's in a paywalled Advertiser article).

Did we come into this season thinking things were just going to happen? Seems to be a lot of questioning the efforts of players going on.

Too many have had a free ride for far too long but in saying that there is many scapegoats who aren't feeling the wrath of the selection sword.

Gibbs determined to fight back after 'strong conversations' with Pyke
I found it interesting that he said "Being a more senior player, i certainly feel more comfortable having a stronger conversation with Don"

Does that mean some of the younger players are less than comfortable? Has he lost the players? I'm not seeing a that desperate sense of team with the way we are playing. No diving smothers, no sticking up for players when they get crushed, moderate goal celebrations, etc

I really find it difficult without audio to get a true understanding of comments
Don’t really get across questions asked and the context of a response.
One could even suggest it was the first time he’d spoken with Pyke re performance EVER.
Do they only discuss with line coaches
I don’t know

How did you feel talking to your boss when you were 19?

Younger players would always feel uncomfortable speaking with the coach when it comes to matters like selection, especially after being dropped and in their opinion the coaches have got it wrong and want to express that to them. That is not hard to understand. Senior players have a greater understanding of the game and the way clubs work and would feel much more confident having that conversation.

As for our 1%'ers, that is something we are consistently good at. Smothers, shepherds etc. I would say better than a lot of clubs in that space. As for not remonstrating with opponents, I am sure that is a coaching directive to ensure we are not giving away silly free kicks, or having players suspended. It's been quite obvious, and our recent record with very few players receiving MRO sanctions backs that up.

That's reading a lot into it. I just read he's experienced, he's fine dealing with coaches and letting them know where he stands. A young player might not have the confidence in themselves to defend themselves as strongly as a player who has been in the system a decade. That'd be across sports in general.

I only remember her yelling at me, but she didn't want me in the first place, she was forced to have me by one of the partners. So I can understand her frustrations now, not that I did back then. We had a very poor relationship, was a horrible beginning to my full time working life.

agree to disagree on the 1%ers. It's one of the things I think we have always been poor at. I can't remember the last sheppard I saw (other than Brad who was everywhere last week).

Add to that defensive running. There was a great example of Gaff in the 3rd last week who took a mark inside our F50, kicked wide to the wing, then ran at 75% into their F50, past about 3 of our players jogging back (Atkins, CEY, Seed). Gaff was then in the play again and set up a goal. CEY only started running hard at him once Gaff was 25m ahead of him, and almost had the ball. If any of those guys ran hard defensively on that occasion, they would have stopped a goal.
