What is the AFL & AFLPA doing?

Surely they should take the lead as this is a massive problem through society for those who can't control themselves & destroy their lives & those around them.
There is. My sister ruined her life due to gambling.

I like a punt, too much, I haven’t done any damage but I’ve recently gone cold turkey.

Lets assume for 1 second the gambling rumour is true.

How does it actually help him by dropping him, then trhe next week bring him back and up and down like a yo-yo?

What purpose does that do? Its not like the debt will go away.

And if the gambling debt is true, why didn’t it influence his form last year?
Good question.

He should either have some time off away from footy if he needs it or be playing AFL.

Don't see how dropping him to the SANFL helps.

If the rumors are infact true, the. What if Bryce doesn’t want to make it public? In that case, AFC can’t really do much other than gift him games which would not be fair on the rest of the team.

Something is obviously very off with the whole situation.

Do what they do for the numerous players who have had drug problems; fake an injury and then close shop.

The way we've handled it has been laughable.

Glad you have shown restraint as unfortunately so many people like your sister can't.

Governments need to do more but don't want to give up tax revenue... even though the effective cost is higher.

We need a major politician to be affected before they do something.

**** me mate.
Maybe we should ban takeaway adverts due to vulnerable people getting obese.
Let's ban Cadbury adverts as sugar kills more people than cigarettes.
Cry me a river
We do have a massive obesity problem, but hey stick your head in the sand & pretend doing nothing will fix the problem.

I don’t buy the gambling debt reason, saying that, I don’t have any idea why they have dropped him. It just doesn’t make any sense.

So let's ban everything? Or make it illegal?
There is a shit load of help for people out there for people who seek it.
AFL players have more education and help than anyone on these issues so there is no sympathy from me.

It's worked alright to cover up all of the high profile guys with drug problems - why wouldn't it be the same here?

Better than doing what we have done, which is is inconsistent and weird, that it has clearly provoked questioning.

Gambling (outside of your own games and sport) isn’t illegal within the AFL system, getting caught with illicit drugs in your system is.

What are they trying to hide and who are they hiding it from?

I still am unsure of the link between having a large gambling debt and being dropped! Anyone able to explain it?

The debt affects his mind, which affects his play and form, leading to dropping. I detected something wrong with him in the JLT, which wasn't in the previous year. His wife should take over the finances, cut up his credit card, and give him an allowance. So much for getting back to family in Adelaide!

But then why wouldn't he have a complete break rather than playing in the sanfl...
He's probably up and down a lot and he's a week-to-week proposition if he's feeling up to playing. He's had two games where he's been "injured" or "sick" and hasn't played at all, but if he's having a week where he's not mentally switched on, he might still feel OK playing at SANFL level given there's very little pressure there to perform, especially compared to AFL level where the wins and losses are far more important.

If he can play SANFL then we probably want him to for fitness and form purposes and hope we can continue to work with him on turning it around.

I'd argue it hasn't helped, we all still question it. The mental health line has even been questioned at times.

I don't know what the answer is mind you.

Surely the best solution is to send him away for a short period to give him a break with appropriate supports as the current scenario is not a solution. Could even fake an injury reason if they feel the need.

What happen to that roovulution or whatever his name was who was claiming to win thousands every bet, maybe we need him to help Gibbsy out

It's hard to say and not something I think any of us are able to give a true suggestion on given how far away we are from it. Could be as simple as he wants to attempt to play football because it gives him motivation to do better. If he's sitting at home all week not doing anything then he has time to spare and the old habits kick up again. Idle hands and all that.

Im commentating here as a regular punter here, it shocks me sometimes how most people gamble and the mistakes they make and if they realised just how much the odds are stacked against them when they bet/gamble they wouldnt be doing it.

What really should be happening is that he needs counseling in particular he needs a counselor that specialises in this area. He needs to close all his betting accounts. He needs to also get away from from electronic devices, while he goes on a "detox" as such. Its a lot easier to say than to implement.

Its a complex situation because most those that gamble can handle losses and then go chasing and this is where the big losses really happen.

Kane, youre correct. He needs to get away and Im not joking here, some tropical island with no or little contact with civilization. Plenty of beautiful locations around the world. But this is a serious issue that he obviously has. It can eat him up and destroy him.

Gambling not only can doesnt destroy his life it can destroys the lives of all those close to him.

Could it not just be we have two many similar midfielders? Sloane is automatic, so is M Crouch, B Crouch too when fit. CEY (and Greenwood) playing better. He cant take half back spot off Smith/Milera. Need the pace of Gallucci. His point of difference was meant to be his accurate kicking wasnt it? And it hasn't been evident.

It seems more likely reason for out-in-out-in-out rather than other issues.

Forget Carlton, I wonder if we knew!
Carlton would've known. I really hope the Crows didn't know, otherwise it's pretty irresponsible to trade away so much for him.

I get that Gibbs doesn't want it to be public knowledge, but his form is suffering, the club (who are trying to help and support him) are put in a bad position and is his mental health improving?
