Roast Bryce Gibbs

I think people are not appreciating the influence it has to drop a star player, even despite reasonably good stats.

It sends a message “no matter how good your AFL ranking has been, no matter how much money you’re being paid, no matter your individual accolades, we only care about your team-oriented actions.”

You can only send this message when dropping a star player in Gibbs/JJ. The whole team is under notice and everyone has generally lifted since the early rounds.

... what individual accolades?

Gibbs has achieved 0 accolades worthy of respect.

CEY had 15 pressure acts and 4 tackles. Gibbs had 16 and 5 tackles. CEY also had fewer touches and didn't hit the scoreboard.

Brad Crouch was only slightly better at 19 pressure acts and 7 tackles. Of course he actually played four quarters.

Mackay had one extra pressure act but didn't lay a tackle.

Again. Double standards.

Likely the coaches looked at the number of times they didn't do the team thing rather than the raw numbers for tackles and pressure acts.

As I've already said, he only got his first goal because he failed to follow in his opponent who hit a contest and we were very lucky our players managed to win it despite the outnumber that Gibbs opponent managed to create.

To an outsider, it really just looks like making someone easy the scapegoat. He's an import, he's not one of our inner sanctum, he's not best mates with the coaches, he's an easy drop. He's he new guy at work who gets hauled over coals for not filling out his TPS Reports on time when the bloke who's been here 5 years is always late but that's just how he's always done it.
None of "our" guys put in two games where they had 4 pressure acts for the entire game this year. You seriously have to be making almost zero attempt to work when we don't have the ball to get that sort of result.

To put it into context we'd just been embarrassed in the GF and then lost both Lever and Cameron. The club desperately needed a positive PR spin during that trade period.

I think once we hit the point of no return, I don't think the club could have afforded another embarrassment so it was in for a penny, in for a pound.
This was basically the same mentality we had with Tippett. Could have taken a good offer for him but the club felt we needed to keep him because we couldn't weather another bad news story. Apparently we haven't learned a thing from that debacle.

But he kind of is in the inner sanctum group. Is far from an outsider to our club.

He was often seen with our players via Instagram pics when a Carlton player.
Seems to have a strong friendship with Sauce.

His family is also part of the SA Footy Clique

If Gibbs didn't miss that easy goal straight in front and ended up with 3 goals, that would have made selections interesting.
Maybe the same result but it could have made it harder for the selectors to drop him.
I agree w
Except McHenry isn't even in the side.

Gallucci is non-existent defensively, Atkins and CEY are poor in this regard also.

I'm not upset Gibbs is out but our reasons don't make a lot of sense.
Atkins can be soft defensively but he can also be damaging when he has the ball, luckily for us CEY has been good for us this year. I thought at the start of the year if CEY gets regular games it would be a bad sign and the only way he'd be in the team would be through injuries, Im now starting to think he is in our best 22. A hungry determined Bryce Gibbs is also in our best 22, the Gibbs that's been playing this year is not. I'd give young gallucci a couple more games before judging him.

Defensive running apparently.

Fox Sports News’ AFL correspondent Julian de Stoop said a lack of defensive pressure and defensive running had contributed to Gibbs’ omission.

“Since the teams came out I’ve spoken to a couple of people at Adelaide and they’re adamant it was why he was dropped the first time, it’s defensive pressure, it’s lack of defensive running,” de Stoop said.

“And if you look at some of the kids that are in the Crows side right now, a (Chayce) Jones, a (Ned) McHenry — that’s what they bring to the side and Gibbs doesn’t.

“So he’s (Don Pyke’s) been tough on him this year and he’s (Gibbs has) probably gotten away with it in the past but it’s not going to happen under Don Pyke.”

It was pretty obvious in the first half we gave Brisbane too much space to run, they always seemed to have an overlap runner who was running into space. They must have blamed Gibbs. It only takes one bloke not doing his part to make a hole in the defense.

At this time with all the Gibb hate going around, how many of you mentioned in the 2016 trade period and after, that we should have gone harder for Gibbs, how many mentioned we should have used 2 x 1st rd picks, or How bad the management was for not pushing harder and how weak we were.
Then 2017 pre-trade and during how many again mention use 2 x first rd picks,

At the time of the trade, a majority of BF supporter were in favour. How times change. Guess hindsight is a powerful tool, and a few will hope he does not help us to a grand Final anytime soon.

God you love to waffle rubbish. You're tarnishing everyone with the same brush. Firstly, don't be annoyed with the disappointed, Gibbs isn't just disappointing BF posters, he's very clearly disappointing the coaches. Obviously, as usual, you know better. For me, I posted during the failed trade attempt that Gibbs was not an elite player but rather a B+ footballer who sometimes has A+ games. But he had also largely been a cruiser throughout his career and stated that his elite kick was overated. I was against the trade at the end of 2016. But then, as I posted, I was happy with the trade in 2017 because we'd just lost Cameron and Lever and were stacked with draft picks and we'd just played in a GF, so overpaying a small amount wasn't because we weren't far off a flag. Obviously, Burton screwed us over and 2018 was a complete write off. The point is, don't just post rubbish and place posters all into a basked when there's a wide and varied set of views out there.

Learn to read, a few people who are slamming the trade today were all for it and slammed the club when it did not happen in 2016, And I did not put everyone in the same basket again read carefully. and stop with the cherry picking.
I was attacked by several for mentioning Gibbs is not worth 2 1st picks, both in 2016 and again prior to the 2017 trade.
Today the trade is done and dusted and all this bullshit about how bad it was is rubbish. because at the time a majority of supporter liked the trade. Hindsight is great.

There’s more to Gibbs dropping than form. I haven’t bothered going through the old threads to see if anyone else has mentioned this, I’d be surprised if no one else has heard the same things I have. But 100 percent he’s no being made a scapegoat for form, there are a few more layers too it which I hope he sorts out soon.

Your right hindsight is great and in hindsight he is clearly not worth what we gave for him. Geez I hope he turns it around, Because at his best he is a matchwinner. I think it's a smart move to drop him, And reckon he will have a big 2nd half of the year, If he's got the mental strength.

So why do we keep bringing him back?

So why do we keep bringing him back?
Because it’s not a black and white issue. Form is still obviously a factor but not the only one is all I’m on about. Anyway, I usually hate vague posters sounding like I am right now so I’ll leave it there.

Whats all this crap on FB (adelaide pride etc) that Gibbs wants out of the club and is gone at the end of the year.... issues with the upper management, not happy at the club, somethings happened blah blah blah. Can anyone clarify?

Back to Carlton for their 1st next year

2017 draft looks like one of the worst for Adelaide. Picked up Gibbs and McPherson. Lost Lever and Cameron. Gibbs cost 2 1st rounders. Fog has been moved sideways and not really looking like getting a game. CEY as a rookie only significant player.

+ we lost GF.
