It doesn’t matter. I don’t have any contradictory evidence. I don’t believe it is fair to comment on the made up rumours.
Of course you do, you have his performances, I'm not asking you to comment on rumours just if you think his performances were worthy of bring dropped for.

Key word is ‘rumour’

Helps no one. Rucci, Purple and that Victorian flog who posted **** about the camp last year are gutter trash. Until there is some evidence and facts, the rumours should be left right alone.
This information is coming from people in the industry with the likes of player managers and past players. When betts came to the crows they had to pay his significant gambling debt as well. Who knows if Menzel had the same issue.

It’s still not public knowledge. It is 100% hearsay

Until the player, club or his manager puts this information on public record with a direct quote associated to it; its only rumours and innuendo.

I think he under performed as a half back flank in the first 5 or 6 weeks and he was dropped. Yesterday was simply to remind him, being an offensive midfielder isn’t good enough and he still wasn’t performing all of his duties.

Why are we even entertaining some of these rumours, as to why is being dropped.
If it was a Gambling issue and the rumours are true then he has had the problem for a few years and it did not affect his form then, If it was a Gambling issue then the club would be helping him behind the scene, and still play him. if not they would give him time to work on the issue, ie extended break from the game, they would bring up and down, name him as an emergency.
But What if, he was not as fit as he should be then that would match his on-field performance this year like his inability to finish a game as strong as he should be. His Lack of Consistency, good first half dropping away in the 2nd half. Even by quarters, he started well and then dropped off,
So Maybe just maybe he is not as fit as he should have been, and they are giving him extra work to get his fitness levels up. That would also piss off the coaching panel after last year.

It would depend who he owes money to...

Damned if you do, damned if you don't really.

If we come out and to quote Homer Simpson "Yooouu have a gambling problem" or whatever, it puts he and his family under pressure more.

Let him deal with the issues in private.

If it’s a private issue it’s up to him whether he wants it out there. If it’s affecting his form then I’m sure the club would give him time off to deal with it without financial penalty. But if he doesn’t want that and puts up his hand then he’s responsible for his form. Maybe he’d rather people think he’s in poor form than know that he’s going through some outside footy issues.

Well that's different from what I've heard, the breakdown between him and Pyke and the coaches is way more basic than that and stems back to not turning up for pre-season training in the good physical nick expected of an experienced AFL player compounded by a very poor return in the 2km run....that's what I've heard for what it's worth.
Possible that one caused the other.

So if the rumor is correct, Gibbs has been dropped because he has a gambling debt? I don't really understand how the two are connected

More a case of we know he's not playing to his potential & rumor being offered as root cause for his lack of focus. Plausible, and could be connected if true. I'm sure the dropping is purely footy related though.

Certainly a big difference between the bloke who showed up this year vs last. We all deal with shit in life at some point that causes us to be below our best. Hopefully whatever is going on with him is short term & can be resolved quickly.

Would be so hypocritical if Gibbs got dropped due to a gambling debt. Just look how close the AFL is with the gambling companies these days. It's ****ing disgusting. I can't believe an organisation that is as utterly obsessed with their public image as the AFL, thinks it's perfectly fine to be in cahoots with gambling companies. Just goes to show that money is more important to them than integrity. Advertising gambling during sporting broadcasts shouldn't be even be legal in the first place.

Yep. I hate the end of ad "remember, gamble responsibly".

It should be "don't gamble, but, if you do, gamble responsibly".

I hate the directive to gamble that is supposed to be a safety message.
It's especially heinous because they have former players like Nathan Brown shilling for sportsbet. It's not simply a case of advertising during games, they are actually using footy players in their marketing. It's gross. You'd think a former AFL player would have a sense of self-respect and not need to whore themselves out that way.

Slightly off the topic, but do you know if the AFL has been encouraging or pressuring clubs to rid themselves off of the reliance on poker machine revenue?
