Senior players don’t expect to get dropped for poor form st our club. It’s as simple as that. Gibbs would think he’s safe because he sees the other rubbish output that qualifies for continued selection.
This. If I was Gibbs and I saw Tex, Jacobs, Atkins, Mackay, Harto and others put up shit efforts and get selected the next week I would have robust conversations

My back spasm was causing a pain around to the top of my front groin area and it was affecting my ability to take of with speed when running Didn’t we hear he had groin troubles in pre season . Maybe the two are correlated. Gibbs is seeming to be running at one pace this year and has lost his burst speed. It’s definitely an injury he is trying to play through .
Is this OP your talking about?

Was the Bryce Gibbs trade lose-lose?

Carlton lost a senior player who was shouldering the load and letting their younger players develop.

Lachie O’Brien signs not great. Not sure if it’s drafting or development with Carlton but either way they don’t look to have achieved much with their draft haul from Gibbs.

Adelaide lost the opportunity to draft and develop young with potential like Bonar or Richards or Brander etc. That was a significant price.

Bryce Gibbs has not added much. He basically duplicates other senior players we already have.

I think both clubs would be better off if the trade hadn’t happened.

Looking that way. There is no doubt he was a huge loss to Carlton. They would've probably won 2+ more games. Atm they have virtually no leaders on the park to guide all their kids through their development.

Gov would also still be a crow if not for SOS's tit for tat raid on us.

Hopefully Gibbs can pull his finger out. We desperately need the midfield polish we recruited him for.

From memory, he was quoted using the word “selection” in the article. Might have been along the lines of, “yeh, I know I can do better in areas, but why am I the only guy being held accountable here.”

It's just you. They sit down with their line coaches every Monday and review their tapes. They know.

They just don't like being dropped, especially senior players who feel some degree of entitlement to their position. Bryce even said as much.

Why would Gibbs say ""I was seeking clarity and reasons for their decision and he passed those answers on to me." and ""It's off the back of what I thought was a solid game and a solid performance." if he was crystal clear on his performance and where he was at? It sounds like when players are dropped they don't know why already, and have heated discussions about why they were dropped. Yeah there's some ego in that, but they shouldn't need clarification on why they've been dropped if they're fully aware of their performance and where they're at.

I still have nightmares about last year's game in Darwin where we were running in quicksand chasing Melbourne (hardly the quickest spread team). Makes me think I'd want runners like Atkins/Mackay/Knight/Ned rather than overload with Gibbs/CEY types.
The red dirt in the Alice does strange things to the mind :)

So true, that has been our culture for 15+ years, we prefer the status quo, to play it safe, we cant drop a senior player for a kid - we will wait for injuries to make changes.

Someone had a great post about how our kids debut over the years, it was very damning that the vast majority only got a chance through injury - not form or to potentially improve the side.

The only time that I can recall a senior player making way for a non-senior player that's coming up from the seconds was when Gooch debuted against Brisbane at the Gabba and Dmac was dropped to travelling emergency. Otherwise, the only way was to already be in the side covering for someone else whilst someone like Dmac was on his last legs selection wise.

Look my opinion on Gibbs is we took a risk getting him at the end of 2017 as we saw him as adding another element to our team to go one better in 2018.

Now obviously that didn't work and it is feeling like that premiership window is closing very fast. But we are not the first team to take risks, we took one which is more than you can say for our trading in the 2000s.

But would we have got pick 1?
Thankyou Bryce!

Yeah probably not. I think we've developed a kind of toxic relationship with Carlton where we keep coming back to each other even though we know it's not healthy.

Hopefully after bending them over for pick 1 we walk out the door and make a clean break this time.

How hasn't one of your lot not assassinated Sam McClure yet? The snivelling little f***stick dedicated his gutter radio show tonight to slagging off Adelaide
About stealing pick 1 from his beloved?
