It was a rumour from one of the papers over there that bikies turned up at a club's training session to make a point in no uncertain terms about a player's gambling debt. Didn't mention the club.

That was in reference to Dayne Beams and it's only a rumour I believe. The Beams rumour does have a lot of legs though as he is known to be very cosy with a number of high profile betting agency figures. Usually they only hang around the punters that are tipping in a lot of dough.

Craigy is back on town with Charlie Walsh... ;)

Now Beams is out for the season 'injured'

Lloyd didnt mention the football Club.

But if it was a Victorian Club it would have been all over the AFL news. Im pretty confident about that, thats why imo you could rule all of them out.

If it was Gibbs wouldn't his debt be with bikies in Melbourne, if it was Beams wouldn't his debt be with bikies in Brisbane?

That would be dependent on which bikies we are talking about here.

Some have affiliations interstate. Some are purely local.

If it was at west lakes the advertiser would've put out a special edition

I dont know I am just stating what was discussed on Footy Classified.

I dont know if it has merit or not.

With that said, gambling is not a problem its a legal activity, of course assuming he isnt betting on AFL matches. :drunk:

Its the other issues potentially linked with gambling that if true is the concerning aspect.

Looking that way. There is no doubt he was a huge loss to Carlton. They would've probably won 2+ more games. Atm they have virtually no leaders on the park to guide all their kids through their development.

Gov would also still be a crow if not for SOS's tit for tat raid on us.

Hopefully Gibbs can pull his finger out. We desperately need the midfield polish we recruited him for.

I wouldn't got that far. Gov would have left regardless.

You don't sign a contract, and immediately run on it because of common knowledge. I don't buy McGovern is that stupid.

Was the Bryce Gibbs trade lose-lose?

Carlton lost a senior player who was shouldering the load and letting their younger players develop.

Lachie O’Brien signs not great. Not sure if it’s drafting or development with Carlton but either way they don’t look to have achieved much with their draft haul from Gibbs.

Adelaide lost the opportunity to draft and develop young with potential like Bonar or Richards or Brander etc. That was a significant price.

Bryce Gibbs has not added much. He basically duplicates other senior players we already have.

I think both clubs would be better off if the trade hadn’t happened.

Lose/lose definitely right now, but the price wasn't that significant on our end, it's two first rounders (at the expense of pick 19 in 2019, and McPherson) and we'd have had a pretty decent bottleneck at that point seeing we were fully believing our time is now. Especially as we did have multiple picks banked for 2018 at this point and too many prospects can be a bad thing.

Hard to argue we would not have been better off of course, however, there is some value in not dying wondering.

Our players are delivered Home Truths by Don Pyke and then talk to the media about it, either implying or outright stating they disagree

That sounds like mission failed?

It’s rare to have a manager capable of both giving really tough feedback, but also doing it in a way that the employee takes it on board rather than rejecting it. There’s 5 Mark Neelds for every 1 Phil Walsh.
It probably means that pykes opinion of them is correct

I probably replied to the wrong post. It was the rumour about a group of bikies turning up to a training session I was referring to

How do you even go about getting money from bikies for gambling?

Do they have a hotline you can call? Or do you just rock up at their club house and ask for cash?

You would need to know an "associate" unless you knew a biker personally. If you rocked up to their club house asking for money youre likely to end up in a ditch.

For the life of me, I dont understand how someone would gamble with money that they dont have?

I have been punting for years and in those initial years, I was offered lines of credit with various bopkies. It never crossed my mind to spend money that wasnt mine.

The thought of owing anyone money makes me uneasy.

Sounds like something we used to call "man conversations" tbh

I tend to think how well someone reacts to that sort of thing is dependent upon their respect for the deliverer.

Someone who is accountable for his own performance can get away with it. Someone who, say, buck passes after a grand final defeat where he's substantially outcoached might not.

I’m not sure. There seems to be a lot of discontent with senior management and how they go about things

Different players, same complaint just makes me a little uneasy

Yeah, at some point in time an inquisitive mind would have to question whether we've truly been cursed by always having the biggest babies known to football every single time that the club alienates someone.

They are often just used for collecting outstanding debts .. they're not necessarily the owner of the book
