Roast Bryce Gibbs

You’ve gotta be kidding me.
Not at all, what exactly did he do for us that we miss ?? We miss Cameron a whole heap more. Gov's good games came against poor opponents, and although we kept hearing "He would be better as the main man", that couldnt be further from the truth.

If you were happy paying 700K for him, thats your problem.

Can confirm that bikies did NOT turn up to Crows training. That rumour is not about Gibbs.
That rumour was about Dayne Beams at Collingwood - that's where a single biker arrived at training apparently (allegedly). There was a statement somewhere that there was only one bigger gambler than Beams, and that is supposedly Gibbs. For mine, I can't imagine we'd have contracted him if there were such issues - it would go against the grain for us I think.

He’s the only forward we had who could come in as a fourth key forward and not make us slower (it’s like bringing in both a tall and a small).

He’s the only forward we had who could take a contested mark.

Jenkins was dropped for two months.

Tex can’t raise a gallop.

Fogarty is marking time playing in a competition way beneath him because his attributes are too similar to the forwards already in the team.

Delusional to think we don’t miss his specific attributes dearly.

Im not disputing his attributes as a player, but the actual player himself simply wasn't as good as some here would have you believe. As I said, we miss Charlie a whole heap more, happy to concede I got that one wrong.

Wrong, we have plenty of infuriatingly inconsistent players.
Now you are just taking the piss!

We don't have a Cameron replacement in one player. He is a two way player with some genuine match winning ability. FP/HFF is by nature a pretty inconsistent position, which is where Cameron plays majority of his football.

Murphy comes close to replacing the defensive pressure but no one in that forward line has the electric pace and the X factor that Charlie does and it shows now more than ever with Eddie Betts clearly slowing down and no longer the player he was.

Our major hope is that McAdam develops into that player but as of now, for two seasons in a row, we are missing Cameron in a major way. His inconsistencies offensively are not as frequent as they have been and even on the days where he was inconsistent, his defensive pressure has ALWAYS been on. Its why he keeps getting a game when everyone wanted him dropped.

I personally think it will be a wasted career/talent if Cameron stays a small forward.

Always felt with his pace, strength and evasiveness he was like a mini Dangerfield.

I suspect the feedback he got from us was that he needs to work on his tank and ability to hunt the ball more.in congestion to make that move.

Hence he celebrated his goals.against us so much, "FU guys, you were wrong"

He is nearly 25 and yet to make that evolution.

Nah he just loves a celebration. Its something I never liked in his, or anyones game really.

Leave that to soccer players and American sportspeople

He should be a very capable attacking mid though.

I like the celebrations to be honest, but not with every goal. It adds to the moment.

For example, I like when Betts kicks goals from the pocket and interacts wtih the crowd. More so in Power Home Game Showdowns.

Theres celebrations that involve the crowd like Eddie does, Charlies and others are very 'me me me'.

As I said I dont mind celebrations for clutch goals or match winning goals, adds to the excitement. In fairness also if it gets a home crowd going, it can become unbearable for the opposition.

But to do it for every goal, yes its a bit sad.

That bow and arrow crap for random goals or random opposition is pathetic.

All i know is that in the second half last week whatever external issues there might be didn't stop gibbs from shutting down one of the premier mids in the comp. I would have thought whatever issues there are this week were there last week too..bad call to drop him imo
I haven't watched the replay so am only going on memory but am pretty sure of this. I also said it earlier in teh week somewhere on Bigfooty. If you go to around the nine and a half minute to go mark in the third quarter Gibbs squibbed on or did not engage in a contest. This was equally as reprehensible IMHO as the Walker one the week earlier which got all of the attention. It would be good if someone with some techno skill could paste it here. Lets not inflate Gibbs game when others put themselves on the line but he doesn't!

And yet if you looked at our win rate with and without gov, not having him in our side pushed us from a top 4/premiership contender to a mid table team (~75% with Gov in 17/18, ~45% without with similar splits both years, and similar number of games/variety of quality of opposition).

The whole is greater then the sum of it's parts, and having Govs skill set in our forward was the missing piece that made it tick. 4 tall forwards wasn't viable without him at all unless we absolutely outclassed our opponent (and yes, Geelong had no business being in that preliminary final, a 10 goal win indicates that).

He said he wants to emulate Toby Greene

I would say we told him he is primarily a defensive player. That we did not see him as an attacking target. He was not good enough offensively. Tex JJ Lynch Betts MGov would be the targets and Charles would run around chasing defenders.

I can’t blame him...

I know we like to criticise David Noble’s trading. But he paid less for Charles than Carlton paid for MGov, he paid less for Charles than we paid for Gibbs, and Charles is clearly going to contribute more to Brisbane than the other two guys are going to contribute to their clubs.

.

There is too many variables involved to make a meaningful conclusion like that unfortunately.

Im sure you could also draw a similar conclusion with Cameron and Lever leaving us.

Carlton had been interested in McGovern for a while. They put a pretty big contract offer to him in 2017, and had some interest earlier on.

You don't pay the money they did for a tit for tat pissing contest. SOS wanted McGovern badly, and I can't blame them, McGovern if properly utilised is a damn good forward.

2017 was also the year we went after Gibbs...

Also McGovern has never been more than a 3rd or 4th forward option. Can't agree that he's a damn good forward. The money he's on at Carlton is ridiculous.
