and a little bit relieved that it's out of the way
I did wonder whether it had been weighing on him a little.

His first one was a contract extension, so I don't know there would have been much "bargaining" involved.

While he hasn't been out of form, he certainly hasn't captured his best form more often than not this year.

Lets hope this frees up BG's mind to play the sort of footy we know he can and rip open the middle part of this draw to set up some more September action.:thumbsu:

Gibbs back in gear for finals
''It was a bit of a challenge and it's been good to go through that, in a way,'' Gibbs said. ''The coach put a lot of faith in me to keep going, and that's what I did. I wanted to work through it, not so much to stick it up the media or people saying things about me, but more for the boys and the coach. I sort of kept thinking, 'I'm not going so well, but this week I'm going to try and turn it around for you guys'. I tried not to worry about it too much, but I also wanted to believe in myself and do what I could to start playing better footy.''

'There were a few negative things written about him, which hasn't really happened to 'Gibbsy' before, but I think he's responded well,'' said close friend Marc Murphy. ''He's done really well in the last month and we've probably been a bit better team with him getting back into some form.

''He keeps things a bit internal. You never know with him. He was still carrying on around the club and having a good time, but he's also someone who works pretty hard and has high expectations of how he wants to play. There were things he needed to work on, and he just went off and did it. He's not really someone you need to worry about. He just goes off and figures things out and does them.''

Gibbs follows father-son path Emma Quayle, Limerick
Gibbs finished 2006 at Carlton, as the No. 1 draft pick, and wondered this week what might have happened had his manager delivered a different message to that Fremantle hotel room.

''If it had have gone the other way I probably would have gone to the Crows and stayed at home, but it wasn't to be and now I'm playing at one of the biggest clubs in the AFL, with a huge history, with one of the best players in the competition in Chris Judd and a lot of guys who have become my best mates,'' he said.

''I love it in Melbourne and I'll probably live here for good, I love the lifestyle so much.''

I appreciate the role that Gibbs played for us during the season as our general in the backline, but with the addition of Laidler and White into the mix, I wonder what that means for Gibbs.

No doubt we had him play down back because we struggled with our disposal coming out of the backline.

But with Ratten stating that he's looking for Laidler to play most games next season, I can't help but feel he was recruited with a specific role in mind for him.

Ditto White who has been elevated to the senior list. Played a few games in 2010 and did not look out of place carrying the ball out of the backline.

With those two now well and truly in contention for senior games, moving Gibbs back into the middle may be a realistic option.

I'd love to see him on the wing where he can use his disposal skills to look for a leading forward inside the forward 50 and hit them on the tit.

Wouldn't look out of place on the half forward line either where he'd be able to kick 20 goals in a season with relative comfort.

Bryce Gibbs pedals his wares

BRYCE Gibbs has a message for Brett Ratten and the brains trust at Carlton: "Get me into the midfield."

Gibbs told the Herald Sun this week that he had his sights on a return to the engine room.

"We've been able to draft some half-back flankers, such as Jeremy Laidler and Nick Duigan, so that might free me up in the midfield, which would be good," he said.

Really looking forward to following my man Gibbsy this year. We need a big year out of him in order for us as a team to become a "REAL" contender. Has had a solid preseason as to date and is widely known he wants to be a main part in the blues' midfield engine room in 11'. Whether this move provides the best team balance has not been established yet.
Bring on 2011. Go Blues!

I was just about to post that article from carltonfc.com.au and say that I am so stoked to read it. I've been hoping to get Gibbsy back in the middle for a long time.
