Gibbs is a footballer not an athlete. His weapons are his disposal, reading of the play and ball winning ability. People who watch our games will see that he's taking steps all the time and we're sitting on an exeptional prospect, but he's not a 5'5'' indigenous forward pocket so it's not about flash for Bryce. Ask any Hawthorn or Geelong supporter what they throught of Luke Hodge and Jimmy Bartel after a year in the system and a great portion of them would have written them off because they weren't prepared to wait for them to come to terms with the speed of the game. These guys are similar packages to Bryce, so it wouldn't suprise me if his development mirrors theirs to a degree.

One major difference between Hodge & Bartel and Gibbs, that is you are overlooking the fact that Bryce Gibbs is a pure coward, the other two are not.

Don't give me this 'he is just a kid' crap, he was obviously born with a pea heart and 99.9% of kids younger than him are more courageous than him so it's not an age thing, he is just plain soft as butter left in the sun.

It doesn't matter how good his disposal is or how well he can read the play if he is scared of getting hurt, and he is terrified and always will be.

He is a born chicken shit and thank God he is not disgracing my colours on a weekly basis! Softest, most gutless footballer I've ever seen. :thumbsd:

Dont hold back sirlothie;)

. I dont you would have much support with Thomas having more upside than Murphy, Pendlebury maybe so, but not Thomas.

Give me Thomas or Pendlebury over Murphy every time.
And thats from an unbiased perspective.

Infact there are probably another six players from that draft who I'd have over Murphy.

Lets face it. Your drafting has been pretty ordinary. Russell (9), Walker (2), Kennedy (4), Murphy (1), Gibbs (1).

Not one of those players would be selected in their same draft position or higher if they had their time over.

Does it strike you as odd that you get so fired up about something that has nothing to do with you? The fact that your anger forces your blood pressure to rise shows you are someone who acts on pure emotion without the ability to form rational and coherent thoughts. This trait shows you as someone who is not as far removed from the animal kingdom as your birth certificate might suggest. Find yourself a vet mate.

Murphy will be a gun and Kennedy will be very good. Can`t complain about them. Agree on the other hacks

What are bloody moron. I can give you 'he is just a kid' because his is, he is bloody 18 still built like a stick compared to everyone else. He realises getting hit by one of those massive bodies can put him out for a long time. Not everyone is ready to get there head smashed in at the age of 18, give him time to develop physically and the confidence and courage will come. What a hell of a stupid comment to make, grow a brain.

He is softer than soft serve icecream running down a 3 year old's hand and always will be. :):thumbsu:

He is softer than a baby's bottom.

He is so soft his pillow sleeps on him.

I used to think "give him a chance he is only young", I have seem him shyte himself one to many times for my liking...

Joel Selwood would have been teh right pick..

Unfortunately I think we have stuffed our early picks:

Kennedy is gone

Murphy is hard & very good, but not worthy of a number one pick IMO. Pendelbury or Thomas have more upside & are better right now too.

Walker was just a big mistake! top 20 pick but not number 2 :o:o:o

Gee I hope Krezuer comes good & is not a Josh Fraser mark II

this is the type of Carlton supporter that needs a good belting in the head.

No, this suppporter is not biased and sees the players named above in a similar light to most non-carlton supporters.

There is a lot of Aaron Fiora about Gibbs. Both had high raps, look like they have good skills, athelitism but they just lack that edge that makes them good players. Early days with Gibbs but this bloke did not even place in the Rising Star despite playing in the second worst team and had less development issues as he was already playing seniors in the SANFL.

When it comes to Carlton I think a lot of their problems stem from the coaching panel, just a very poor history of developing players in the draft/cap era. No wonder they went after Judd, he was already developed.

Just telling you like it is, my friend. Be thankful for that.

Trade him to the Crows while you can still get something for him.

Bryce 'The Marshmellow Man' Gibbs. :):thumbsu:

Can't say i completely agree with this comment.... Surely when you're running back looking at the football you don't think "i'm only a kid and i could get hurt by someone bigger than me, so i'll whince out of this contest"... You watch the ball and run at it, if you get hit in the process, it's part of the game...

Rhys Shaw has no ticker, never has never will, despite the fact he's put on some size...

exactly, Gibbs is the same all the size in the world and he will still be a pussy

Spot on :thumbsu:

Dont forget the fact that Kennedy looks very duddy himself.

I think Carlton should think about a new recruiter. :o

Spot on eh? Didn't everyone bag you guys for picking Hodge over Judd?
Have a look at Hodge NOW!
Selwood,Thomas and Pendlebury....have a look at the teams they slotted into.
I would love to see where Thomas would be now if he didn't walk into a side with Burns,Lockyer,Holland,Buckley, etc blocking and protecting the little show pony!!!

Be very careful bagging young blokes, these comments could bite you all on the bum!!

Mate take a look in your own backyard before you comment on Gibbs. Pendlebury has shirked many contests, including one on the weekend according to the SEN commentators (didn't see it myself).

Gibbs will be a great player, he has elite disposal, an elite football brain and great hands. He does lack pace but that will be overcome as he adjusts to the speed of AFL football. He reminds me of Hird, a good sized flanker with elite skills who can run in the middle when required. Like Hird I don't think he will ever have an elite engine though.

Remember he is still as young or younger than many of the blokes that went in last years draft. He is also being used in stupid roles by Carlton, but that is a discussion for another day.

He does seem a bit soft which is a bit of a worry and not something easily ironed out of his game even if he is just a kid. Every player at one time or another in their career might pull out of a contest but Gibbs seems to have already done so on a few occassions. I havent watched enough of him otherwise to know whether hes otherwise got the goods but from what little of him i have seen he reminds me a bit of a Craig Bradley type running receiver who will in future have the potential to hurt teams with his run and carry and disposal.

Yeah thats why Squib polled so well in the rising star.

Pendlebury is one of the reasons why we climbed off the bottom so quickly. What is Squibbs doing to arrest your continual slide?

Well have to wait and see then won't we.

whats with all the carlton supporters trying to defend Gibbs for being soft? you can say "this player is soft" and "that player is soft" but that doesn't stop Gibbs from being soft as marshmellows

I have heard this before from Carlton supporters.

He is nothing like Hird. When Hird was 19 he was playing at centre half forward and that was his position for the first part of his career.

They are nowhere near alike and its more a case of some Carlton fans hoping that he turns out like him more than anything based on reality.

QUALITY EXPERIENCED PLAYERS THAT WE HAVE HAD, which began at the end of the Parkin era, not helped by Brittan (Mansfield, O'Riely etc) and further enhanced by Pagan (Martin, Mott, Teague, Deluca, Kenna, Harford, McGrath, Johnson, Saddington). You do remember these blokes i hope.

I know it will be seen as me defending Pagan however these recruits didn't really hurt the club as we only gave up a few lower end draft picks to get them
