and how many clangers last week you salad tosser? saying what i saw, he missed easy targets regularly last week, over rated cheap possies

So the one game you saw summarises his career does it?

For the record, Gibbs had 3 clangers last week - out of 30 possessions. Hardly terrible. Do you really want to keep this up? It's obvious to everyone in this thread you know shit **** all about footy

says the guy who reckons he has 4-6 votes already

lmao u dumbass, he wasnt close to a vote last week, watch the game instead of reading stats might learn a thing or 2

Mate dont get angry because he cut you to pieces last week!!!

I think he shouldve got 1 vote last week, but as we know the umpires see it very differently and couldve quite easily been 3 by the maggots in white. He was named in the best 4 or 5 for Carlton last by most media outlets, surely they havent all got it wrong As for tonight he was IMO the most damaging and the best player on the ground.

Watched him last week and this week and was very impressive.

If you want to pick on him then pick on something he is actually not that good at, you are right on one thing he did turn a few over last week but this was the exception, not the rule!!!!

29 of his disposals were uncontested. We've been getting him to sit just a bit behind the packs, and blokes feeding it out to him to utilize his good disposal. I actually really wish Ratten would just chuck him into the packs permanently already - he could be so damaging the way he can find space when there is none. Unfortunately, with the plethora of good mids we now have, it's best for team balance the way he's playing. Seriously, im not kidding, wait until he's chucked into the very heart of the action, that's when people will see his true worth

He doesn't look to be an in and under player. I've seen him pull out of contests many times, not rare... some guys just don't throw the body in... I'd put Pendlebury in the same category as Gibbs in this regard. Read the play well but require space to be effective regularly.

While he looks like he will be a good player, I'm afraid unless he gets in and under and wins more(or any) contested ball, he'll never be considered in 'the elite'... Brownlow or not. Players like Kerr, Judd, Ablett, Black etc.. who attract a heavy tag and still dominate, are the elite.. that is what it takes. Gibbs with heavy tag??? Hmmm... Heath Shaw anybody??

Defenders who get lots of lose ball in defense, which is all Gibbs really did tonight, aren't respected to the extent of other players who win the ball. I'd rate Murphy's game well above Gibbs tonight! He was excellent. Not only kicked goals but held the engine room up when Judd slipped out of the game in the 3rd. I see much of Murphy in Selwood, who is obviously the bench mark in the young player crowd. Carlton's stocks look on the rise... good for the comp, I enjoy watching them play.

watch the port adelaide game last year where he had 10+ clearances

.

You know absolutely nothing about football or players

Gibbs is becoming become an elite player in the James Hird mold ....his decision making is second to none ..he always seems to have more time that the other players out there, his disposal by hand and foot is very very good..he kicks goals and he shuts down good players while racking up stats at will .

Good comments:thumbsu:

I tend to agree that he needs to work on his inside game to be considered along the names you mentioned. I think this will come as body continues to mature and in the meantime he can be "setter upperer" similar to other sides who try to give it to certain guys in space.

So only in & under players can be elite players. I read some rubbish in my time, but this is right up there. I guess Paul Couch wasn't elite then? Or Craig Bradley? Gary Wilson?

The game would be quite ugly if all we had was in & under players & no-one outside to use the ball well & set up your forward thrusts. Can you imagine a game where in & under players are just 'hacking' the ball forward all the time? Would look something like the rugby codes.

BTW, Gibbs won 5 clearances tonight, on top of the 7 he won last week.

You havn't seen enough of him mate, he'll be a clearance king. His possessions will eventually be up there with the most damaging in the league. He can find space when there isn't any. As said above, see the game he had against Port. You're sticking to the typical BF bullshit about how he's soft and a squib and all that shit, watch more of him, you'll like it ;)

If need be??? If he wanted to work the packs and was a hard player(obviously isn't), he would be in the middle. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, my point here... just a perspective to those who may be considering a comparison with Gibbs to the better midfielders in the comp, of which he is not as good as many.

I actually rate Gibbs inside game very high, he's not the typical bang crash inside player on his hands and knees flicking out the handball but he goes in with intent, keeps his feet and rarely gets tackled. You often see him get the ball in congestion and then weave through 2 or 3 players and find some space. Also when he is tackled he is very good at keeping his feet and freeing his hands to get a handball out, not normally just a handball in hope either, his vision is great and everyone knows his skills are of a high standard.

I'm not going to disagree with you mate. I just think at this stage, stats alone make him look a little better than what he really is.. eg Like I said, I'd take Murphy in a heartbeat over Gibbs at this stage. Without players like Murphy, Gibbs types are not much use.

Yes, the in and under players are considered the best in the competition along with key position forwards.... if people can't accept that they don't know the game.

Mate, Murphy will become a gun mid this year.

But Gibbs is special.

It isn't his job to be in the middle right now. With the plethora of quality mids we have, we are utilizing bryce's quality disposal by making him our go to man. If we have any injuries, expect to see Bryce hit the packs. Sorry mate, but you definately don't know what you're talking about.
