He has had a sort of up and down month but I think he needs to be up there in the engine full time. When there has to be an important job done on an extra important player put him down back but have most of his time playing up the ground.

bad day at the office, no reason for him to be dropped.

Personally, I think he did pretty much what he does each match he plays, only difference was that The Crows' tackling and pressure left him with his pants down a few times.

In a lot of games his awareness and Harvey (Robert) like twinkle toes ability comes off, and he looks sensational. However, today, he will have to go home and have a long, hard look at himself and re-assess how to handle that sort of almost finals like pressure.

The kids still a gun.

While I don't agree with dropping him, I don't think those calling for it are suggesting he isn't a starting 18 player. More so let him go back and get his hands and knees dirty playing a role more around the clearances.

I suggested something similar with Walker around the same stage in 07 - was playing very good footy but I thought having had to play a defensive role under Pagan, he'd lost a bit of that attacking instinct that he had as a junior. My thinking was that letting him play his natural, attacking game in the seconds would give him the confidence to attempt the same at AFL level.

Was torn into by a few posters - one in particular, then called In_Like_Flint claimed it was the worst thread he's seen on BF (:o). Sure enough a few weeks later after arguably Walker's best month of footy (just prior to that dim, dark day against the Hawks which has ruined his last two seasons) I was to my great pleasure, forced to admit I was wrong and that he didn't require games back in the seconds to rekindle his flair.

Don't think Gibbs has anything to learn in the second. He's already an exceptionally skilled footballer in his own right though you'd like to see him go in harder at times. Have a word in his ear and I'm sure that'll come. Him not playing around the clearances is due to the role he's playing and not his own fault. If the MC was so inclined, they'd push him up around the stoppages and I'm sure he'll excel there as he has numerous times throughout his career.

Gibbs really needs a free flowing game with wide open spaces to really show his skill. Once we get to this chip and bomb down the line we lose his skill and vision with was obviously nonexistent today. Obviously the game style isn't an excuse for a bad game.

Hope he can get on ball full time and do a bit more in and under work rather then playing as a part sweeper part play maker. Would rather Thornton or Stevens roam free in the backline.

What?

Thornton's disposal and decision making offensively is god-awful, the last thing i'd want is for him to be a rebounding defender.

I'm really not that sure dropping Gibbs would be the right thing to do, although IMO, he has been quietish over the past few weeks. Would much rather see Ratts use him in the midfield, or even on a wing. I just think we need to use him in a more attacking type role, rather than giving him run with roles or cruising accross HB.

Unfortunately with players like Scotland, Waite, Carrazzo (and to a lesser extent Chris Johnson) missing, we're lacking the personnel to give us that drive from defence. Was probably played there more out of necessity than anything today, though I agree I'd much prefer to see him in an attacking role.

House of mirrors and send him into the fray

Add Grigg to that list

So you want Gibbs to play as a play maker?

Thornton is our best option with the injuries we've got in the backline. Sure I'd rather Scotland, Waite, Grigg and possibly Johnson or Carrazzo but they aren't there now. Plus if Thornton plays lose that means he doesn't have a direct opponent.

His decision making and execution are awful, i'm not sure what his effiency is but i can't imagine it'd be that high.

Why is it that Bower played well, but at the end of 3rd Qtr "I think" Bower on the far wing going in to our forward line and with the wind behind him!! kicks the ball into the centre of the 50m turns it over when we had momentum and result in a goal to crows? didn't put it at the top of the goal square but kicks it to the top of the 50m line??????? Gibbs had an off game no doubt about it:( so hope that when he watches the review of the game he comes away with a positive.:thumbsu: At the end of the day our poor dispoals let us down along with the ump's they frustrated the living hell out of me! Judd got nothing today, Kruz got teamed rucked every time and no body pick this up?

Doughty did an excellent tagging job on Judd, Judd can't be held accountable there.
Kreuzer did a very good job considering the circumstances, looks like he's going to be right up there with the best ruckman of all time, big call this early but he's really impressive.

Given his very high standard is disposal and decision making, his game today was well below those standards. Just kicked to too many 'nothing' contests and didn't have his creativity and damage when on the outside.

He'll bounce back though, once he plays more inside he will be exceptional as his inside ballwinning and clearance work is one aspect that made him #1 for that year. His vision in close will help immensely. Just was shot today, I think after that first boo-boo his confidence was shot and really looked a shadow of himself.

He'll be back.

I'd look to use Yarran a fair bit in the role Gibbs played today. Waite, Carrazzo and Johnson don't look like they will be back next week, give Yarran a role, with his skills set i think it would be very beneficial to give it a shot. He probably doesn't have the fitness base just yet to play out the full game but give him stints playing across half back. Not having a major impact up forward and i think that has more to do with our structure than Chris himself.

I flew up to Adelaide this morning to watch the game, woke up at 4am and got home at 11pm, so you can imagine I am not in the greatest of moods!

I'm a massive fan of Gibbs and this is probably the first time I've criticised him and hopefully will be the last.

Gibbs' disposal today was terrible but it wasn't the only issue, his effort was seriously lacking at certain stages which is something that could only be seen from the ground. He just didn't want to chase at all and so often Crows players would streak past him with ease because he just didn't want to put in. He lost a couple one on one situations because the Crow player wanted the ball more, he just seemed to have zero confidence.

Hadley I thought similarly of, just didn't look like he wanted to be there.

The OP was fine. It was constructive criticism and was not over the top or abusive towards the player. This one is a case of having to accept that not every thread has to be positive and not reacting to it.
The one reason why I am prepared to come back to the Carlton board. :thumbsu:

Gibbs was horrible today. The OP said nothing more than that. His disposal was shocking and he looked out of it. Just seemed to approach each contest like a first year player a bit shell shocked re. the occasion. He is better than that. Dont forget, Judd had a bad day too.

i have noticed several times this year games where he has tired to force himself to dive on the ball as perceive toughness... he just doesn't have the killer instinct... hoping sometime soon he can shake his soft label, but nothing i've seen this year has proved that to be wrong...

Obviously the coaches know more than me but I reckon he should be played on the ball and told to hunt the pill. Best game i've seen him play was last year vs Port when he had like 10 clearances and 15 contested possessions. Great inside midfielder but doesn't look like he is getting a run in that kinda role.
