a cautionary tale innit ?

Just can't believe the VFL didn't even do the most cursory of due-diligence work in regards to Edelstein and his suitability (or indeed ability to pay) to own a footy club.

Oh well - its hard for us to appreciate this today but back in the mid-80s every entrepreuer played loose with the rules and ran a cowboy operation funded by other peoples money. Edelstein and Powerplay were really no better (or worse) than outfits like Bell Resources, Pyramid Building Society or Quintex.

Looking back on those days now it just beggars belief how the VFL could have been so naive and believe sharks like Edelstein really had footys best interests at heart.
