When Buckley took over the GF team did you expect to be talking about another flag or getting smashed by teams again 3 years in?

You talk as if this is unusual - three years is a long time in football mate. I was expecting another flag in 2011. I also expected the competition to catch up. I expected players to get old and leave the sport. I also expect injuries. And I expect young players to be inconsistent. I expect to be better managed than both St. Kilda and Richmond and so far, my expectations have been met. I'm also disappointed. I'd like a Geelong like dynasty, but every Tom and his Dick knows that Geelong side was an extraordinary collection of talent. But I'm not an idiot. I shy away from the easy option - 'sack the coach' - because if that is the way we do go, then you may as well get comfy and start making nice with the Melbourne, Saints and Tigers supporters because that's where we'll end up.

Now, answer my frogging question...where'd you tip us to finish at the start of the year?

I like buckley, and would of had him coach collingwood. But why on earth didnt he coach the VFL side first to truly establish himself as the man instead of getting the armchair ride into the top job.

We halted a period of sustained success, thats the thing that annoys me the most. Egos and personalities hav seen us fall away in the past 3-4 years. All are to blame, Ed, Mick, Pert and Buckley.

We as loyal members and supporters deserved far better. If i could turn back time i would hav given Mick an extension mid 2011 and told bucks to coach the VFL side with a view to taking the top job when ready in say 2014-15.

But that time has passed and no one wins out of this, least of all the loyal supporters who have waited so long for sustained success.

I saw this coming as early as 2011, been told i was a mick lover but for ffs i love this club and we have royally fkd this up. Get your head out of the sand people

It's not that young! In fact it will get younger in 1-2 years you will be winding out that rubbish until 2016 and accepting it because we are young.

So we dont have a young list?? Regular 22 would be one of the youngest in the comp.
When did Hawks or anyone have their 4 best defenders out at the one time???

But dont let me rain on your "buckley is terrible" parade
Only this week hawthorn went in with a second string backline

Youngest in the comp? GC are younger beat us, Essendon were younger today beat us, port are younger than us even in a slump are miles ahead of us.

I don't think Buckley will be sacked.
But I do think that at the end of the season he will assess his own performance and come to the conclusion that he is doing Colingwood harm.
I expect him to do the right thing.

If buckley wanted to do the right thing, as u say, why didnt he choose to delay his coaching ambition a year or 2 when we were flying in 2011 to let us focus on winning premierships ( yes mick was to blame too ) . No way he will step down, too much pride and self worth to do that

I said one of, not the
and no, only Brisbane, Melbourne, GWS and GC have a younger list than us.
Also were the Hawks BEST 4 defenders missing? We have had large periods of games where that was the case. Too much has fallen on the young blokes in the backline and for the most part they have performed really well. As I said I expected a drop off as our young players would start to falter in the later part of the season.

Edit: Port are younger than us

I want the bloke to succeed but can't see any Buckley 'stamp' on this club. Stamp your authority, give the players a spray (like malthouse on anzac day 05) and make sure the cameras are on you.

Show the players who's boss. Show us an attractive brand of football, not the same defensive crap week after week. Get selection right. Maybe pick a couple of forwards so we can kick more than five goals a game.

Do anything. Something different.

he has zip. No structure changes, no creativity in game plan, no change in poor form personnel, not sure if I can even recall any significant positional moves he has made. just sits in the box and eats snakes.

Young lists and young best 22 are very different though.

Adelaide side we lost too, bulldogs side we lost too, GC side we lost too and essendon side today we lost too were all younger than us.

Hawks had no Lake, no Gibson, no whitecross
Plus dealt with Injuries to Hodge, Mitchell, and others this year. Our injury list has been no worse than theirs.

Right now we wouldn't look any better with Malthouse in charge. Malthouse was a great coach for us in the 2000s but now he would be stale if he was still there. His game plan is outdated and his ego started to get the better of him as time went on. I'm glad he moved on after 2011 rather than staying and causing a divide between him and Bucks in the inner-sanctum.

In regards to Bucks, time will tell whether he proves to be successful or not. I've always hoped that Bucks would deliver the ultimate prize for us as his loyalty and passion for the club is undoubtable but if things don't improve then serious questions need to be asked at the end of the season. I think regardless of what happens now until the end of the season, I think he has next year to improve but if we continue going backwards then I think his time may be up by the end of 2015. I'm starting to get a feeling that things won't work out the way we hope with him but I really hope I'm wrong.

I'm sick of poster saying this because IT IS WRONG.. check your f@ckin facts.. we are not one of the youngest playing 22 in the league. Hawks, Port and Cats and others are putting out younger players week in week out than us ffs! We also just lost to Bulldogs and GC and they have younger playing groups. We do have a youngish list and most of those young guys play VFL! Our senior list has an age profile that puts us in the middle of the pile... and since you mention it... have a look at the Hawks backline injuries... missing Lake, Gibson, Stratton... don't let me rain on your factually incorrect parade.

Injuries are the problem.

Imagine having a reasonably fit list plus Brad Dick in the side

Keep blaming the injuries...

As a team we can't string together basic packages of play at a high school football level. No one is backing each other up, hitting targets, making the right decisions etc.

Whatever they're doing at practice, they're doing it wrong...

Team selection is a ****ing disgrace too and that goes against Buckley.

That would be the worst possible move you could do for our club right now. It solves nothing. In fact, sacking Buckley now would only entrench the so called 'downward spiral' you believe we are on. Just out of curiosity, where did you tip us to finish on the ladder at the start of this season?
The 'where did you tip us to finish at the start of the season' argument only proves that under Buckley our expectations have lowered dramatically and are only getting lower

Hawthorn have a deeper list and able to cover outs far easier. Our players to come into the side to replace injured players are young and inexperienced, no comparison. As I said nobody has had to endure their best 4 defenders out at the same time. Lake, Gibson and Whitecross missing at the one time they still had Burgoyne, Schoenmakers, Hodge, Birchall, Suckling. That reads far better than our lineup down back doesnt it?

Hawthorn have played kids or recycled players too though. Litherland, and Spangher for starters.

Add to that Burgoyne played midfield, Hodge has missed games and is no longer a permanent midfielder, Suckling lines up on a wing.
Hawthorn has proved that you can cover losses anywhere on the field, no excuses, we've just been shithouse.

It's undeniable things aren't going well. To think of sacking Bucks now is an absurd, non sensical overreaction however.

But a major overview is required and will be done ( Ed alluded to this on his show tonight)

Selections have seemingly been poor lately in terms of team balance and keeping favourites for longer than appears reasonable and failing to reward consistent performers in the VFL.

But the real things to tease out beyond the above are ...

Where have the skills gone?

And are they overtrained or overloaded with too many layers of instructions?

And why are they playing so much 'dumb' footy this year?

The continual soft tissue injuries and lack of four qtr efforts may suggest overtraining.

And they don't look free in the mind which worries me they are grasping with a thousand bits of info drilled into their brains, then having to decipher which to do in the instant they have prior to disposal.

Keep it simple may work better, if that is the case, plus would make it more instinctive and more fun, which I still think is pretty important in keeping the players 'up'.

Hope they sort something out because watching this happen to our club is agonising.

The 'where did you tip us to finish at the start of the season' argument only proves that under Buckley our expectations have lowered dramatically and are only getting lower

Bullshit. Expectations must change to reflect the position the team finds itself in compared to the rest of the competition. Expectations must change when unforseen circumstances occur. Expectations must change to accommodate the one single, freaking truth that escapes all of you 'end is nigh' naysayers...Premierships are hard to come by, and all of the freaking stars have to align for you to be successful. Ironically, it is Buckley who has constantly said throughout this year that 'our best is good enough to beat anyone'. Clearly his expectations aren't anywhere near as low as what I'm reading in this forum. But you know what, shit sometimes happens. But suggesting we sack the coach every time it does is just ludicrous.

Because in 2011 he had the belief that his way was correct.
Results are showing him that maybe he was wrong.
I'm not sure he is the type of person to hide behind cattle/injuries excuses.
If he do as the the master (MM) has taught him well. Always put yourself first.

If 3 years isn't a long time you'll happily accept Buckley dishing out that crap for the next 3 years. Won't wash with most fans. No way he will get that long to produce!
