Quite true. Us Collingwood fans that remember 1990 and 2010 can see a few similarities in the post-premiership decline. Collingwood haven't handled the transition from hunter to hunted too well.
with a nice smile and a courteous wave from the collingwood mobile then surely your mates will espouse you in all your glory...

Collingwood is a high profile club and the circumstances in which Buckley took over were interesting, which no doubt drew attention and - you're right - created Buckley as a target for some. However, that should not dismiss the criticism Buckley is facing at the moment.

A basic comparison of Buckley and Hardwick's W/L record shows their trends are polar opposite (Rich '14 season being the exception). However, they both started their coaching careers at opposite ends of the table so odds on it was probably going to end up something like this.
People forgot how bad a list we had in 2010 when Hardwick took over and how we had to rebuild during the compromised drafts. Taking us to finals in successive years, something we'd historically struggled with in the AFL era. The knock on Hardwick is wether he can take us any further than he already has. I.e Winning finals...which he won't remove until he actually does.

...it was never definite that his trend would be upward.

Comparisons with Buckley are unwarranted.

What we need is a fresh start and a complete overhaul of the culture of the club. The current culture at the club is totally negative. There is no spark or confidence in the way Collingwood play. There seems to be too much emphasis on structure and robot-like discipline rather than skills and creativity. If you look at the Collingwood players running around, they all look bored, depressed, disinterested, hesitant, and petrified of making mistakes. If Collingwood fans are wondering why Collingwood's draft picks aren't coming through the ranks, it's all due to the negative culture at the club.

You look at the young kids coming through at other clubs, they are skillful, confident, dashing, and they have a look of purpose in their eyes. Compare this with the young kids coming through at Collingwood. They look like deer in headlights with the customary "what am I doing here?" look in their eyes. If you still think I'm talking shit, then take a look at all the players Collingwood traded away to other clubs and see how many of them are successful. I honestly can't think of ONE. Why is that?

What I meant with "..opposite ends of the table so odds on it was probably going to end up something like this" is just that the AFL is cyclical but yes, nothing is guaranteed.

Completely Agree, It's like they are afraid of themselves or something, but then in a game where they aren't expected to win, they have a great performance. Will be tuning in to the GWS game coming up.

Hawthorn (MCG), Brisbane (MCG), Fremantle (DS), Melbourne (MCG) before the bye.

Could win them all, could lose them all. It's not like they've been smashed in any game so far. But with a 2-6 record now he can't really afford too many more "honourable" losses before it becomes problematic.

Should have beaten a tiring GWS with only 1 rotation. Didn't show any intent to attack in the last 5 mins, an indictment on the coaching and playing leaders.

It will not happen, but I pray to the footy gods for just one thing.

In round 10 on the MCG, the Brisbane Lions defeat Collingwood by 10 goals and send Eddie into such a spiral of despair that he sacks Buckley on the spot on the ground after the game.

The team that Buckley abandoned to chase a premiership not only won three flags within Buckley's career including GF wins against Buckley himself but then put the final nail in the coffin of his coaching career. A coaching career in which he tried to chase a flag on the coat-tails of one of the great coaches of the 90s and naughties. Chasing yet another flag that vanished like fairy floss in the ocean.

The football gods must do this.

No, never. Collingwood should change its song to Good old Ed and Buckley together forever.
They the best pairing since Abbott and Costello
