Gee Bucks was impressive in his presser. This game may not turn it around for him but I got the impression that he has been humbled by the last 2 years and I think that has the potential to make him a better coach.

I'd like to see him get at least one more year. I think he will be a very good coach.

Basically Collingwood have wasted 6 years with Buckley. They went from being a premiership team to needing a full rebuild and it was not because they got to old, no it was because players fled the club not wanting to play under him, because Buckley is terrible at recruiting as he always recruits the same sort of player and because Buckley just doesn't seem to have a proper understanding of how to create a gameplan.
Please look at the side the Pies fielded in the 2011 GF, and research who retired as a Magpie, and who "fled" and how they've fared elsewhere, and come back with your findings.

Coach killing is by far the ugliest part of the media and bigfooty. When i see shit about coaches i think about ********s like Mark Stevens and Damian Barrett. I just wanna punch the ******* TV

Good teams keep possession. GWS happy to give up Tyson (to get Kelly), Treloar, Adams etc. Their other midfielder butcher they turn into an AA forward (Greene).
Hawthorn quickly move on Hallahan and Anderson because they're butchers.
Collingwood however are full of them. Crisp is just as bad as Treloar, Greenwood and Adams.
Not sure they were exactly happy to lose Treloar

Brisbane next week, will clock up another win, then a couple more challenging games but not without some hope. Its an even season so its not entirely crazy to say Collingwood could have a bit of a run and challenge for the 8, very unlikely though. All this focus on making the 8 this year was set out by Bucks himself, unfortunately for him, he doesn't get to set his own targets for retaining his job. At very best with a lot of luck, Collingwood are an 8-10 side with several clubs well ahead of them in developing young lists that will challenge in the future.
In my opinion, Buckley has to go whether Collingwood finishes, 13th, 10th or even 8th. I would only reassess things if they somehow made the finals and somehow won one.We will be saying the same things next year and the year after if they retain him. 6 years is long enough to reverse the declining trend since he took over.

Happens all the time in the corporate world.

I don't know if Buckley has got worse, none of us do. His teams ladder position has gotten worse but he has also turned over a huge chunk of the list. Maybe the worst we can say about him is that he is 12 months behind his schedule. But I think that he has learnt a lot from the last 12 months and I get the sense that he is now not so locked in to his own agenda of what works and what does not. And that I think will make him a better coach.

The guy is obviously intelligent and has a very deep knowledge of the game.

They played in a prelim in his 1st year, not bad for players who didn't want to play under him hey?

You may be right about he has to go, but don't make shit up to suit your agenda.

So Buckley has just reduced a 7 goal deficit to win by 3 goals and people are still doubting the credentials of Collingwood?
One swallow does not a summer make. There was plenty of emotion there for Collingwood that wont be there in round 10. Lions are paying $7.75, the line is 44.5 in Collingwoods favour. Could be worth a cheeky punt...

I think that is being very generous. His winning % has got worse each year he has been in charge and this year it stands even lower at 33%. There's no indication that he is turning it round. I think the worst we can say is that he's not a good coach.

Couldn't agree more. Felt the same with leppa. I wonder how these people in the media sleep pushing the 'ssck this coach' agenda. And half the time the coach is doing a better job then the reporters themselves yet reporters rarely get sacked. ******s.

Oh, rubbish. If there is attitude of 'sack the coach', it's because clubs have often ruthlessly sacked coaches in the past. Reporters and fans pick up on this and speculation follows. Football is a cutthroat game and everyone knows this, including the highly paid coach.

Also, reporters get sacked all the time (or never rise to the top anyway).

Buckley talks about wanting to leave the ground during the first quarter last night...

Then..

'The players aren't prepared to throw in the towel'.

This is reaching Brad Scott levels of humour.

Sign him up ed.

I expect Collingwood to put a reasonable month together. A bad side doesn't come back from 7 goals down, a bad side loses by 13-14 goals. I reckon they're not as bad as people think.

Coaches aren't allowed to be human and have a sense of humour huh?
True. Just thought it was too funny for a coach that relies on intent more than skills, flexibility and plans to mention jumping ship.

Just can't see how Buckley isn't clogging up your list. You can't sneak around the boundary or rotate the shit out of everyone.

Buckley shouldn't be mentioning walking anywhere... it's all about the players buying in and minimizing the fortnightly snooze.

You can't keep a good man down but for the laughs we can at least hope you can keep Buckley down at Lexus.
