Collingwood players have been beating a path to Neil Balmes door complaining about Nathan
Buckleys attitude both on and off the field.
Seems like he has a lot of the team offside
because he keeps on hounding players over poor skill level and likes to do it in front of other players both on and off the ground.
The constant "put downs" have made him very unpopular, with some players wanting him stripped of the captains job and Scott Burns made the new captain. This information came from some of the players via some reps from one of the clubs major sponsors.Buckley may be a talented player but it doesnt seem he will ever have the respect of his players like a McKenna,Carey,Paul Kelly,Kernahan,Gary Lyon etc did, making it hard for Collingwood
to be a force in the AFL

hmmm more rumours about Buckley

What do you reckon Collingwood people ?

Here at BigFooty we have talked abou this a few times and rumours are flying thick and fast, like :

1) Buckley is sick of the state of things at Collingwood and will nominate for the pre-season draft.

2) Buckley is about ton bestripped of the captaincy

3) Buckley does not get along with Balme, and Balme dosen't get along with Malthouse, and Malthouse and Buckley are far too close for the good of team harmony.

4) Buckley is unpopular with his teammates.

Don't get me wrong - I don't believe a single one of these stupid, malicious rumours - BUT they keeping popping up all the time

Whats the story ?

Alf, CJ, Joffa, others - whats your take on this stuff ?

I heard a third habd story that an ex pie who has done well at another club (that narrows it down a bit) likes his new club because ther are no cliques etc and if your face doesn't fit etc etc.

Could Buckly be a perfectionist and frustrated by the lack of success. Does this make it hard for him to connect with the other players ?

He's certainly a great kick etc.

He always looks very frustrated on the football field... but I think he is definately in the best 5 players in the league... and if Collingwood get nothing for him... will the shit hit the fan....

is this Eddie being executed???

I think the frustration levels must be immense for Bucks. He came to Collingwood in the promise of finals footy. Hes only played in one final and that was 6 years ago.

He is far from the biggest problem at Collingwood. He (and the rest of us) jsut have to be patient. It will turn around. He is the best candidate for captain that Collingwood has.

i agree with u mark
buckley is the only man for the job
it must be a hard situation he is in
he is, whether u agree or not basically carrying the team until all the young kids develop
im afraid that by the time all these kids are ready to make collingwood a premiership contender that buckley's days not only at collingwood but in afl football will be up

You can only nominate for the pre-season draft if you have been chopped or are out of contract.

I'll take any bets on Collingwood releasing Buckley from his contract and let him nominate for the pre-season draft and get nothing for him. I knwo the adminstration is stupid, but even they are not that dumb. Surely Olarencrap for Ramanaskas is the limit of their (or is it Unshaw's) foolishness.

Crowz4eva: when you behave like an adult, I'll reply to you. Keep your pathetic homophobia to yourself.

SG: I was one of the few to support you on that occasion. I have very vivid memories of Buckley giving a very public verballing to Nick Davis after he cost us a goal. I said at the time and I'll say it again: all that does is HARM a young player's development (creates a fear of mistakes, stifling their risk-taking) and makes the captain seem less approachable.

Rumours about Buck's being disliked by other Collingwood players are old news.

It seems they have some basis in truth, though. Bucks seems to have the attitude that nobody should make a mistake, and he publicly berates his teammates when he sees them make one. HOWEVER, he makes plenty himself.

True leaders inspire others to play above themselves. He does this occasionally. Someone needs to teach him far better interpersonal skills.

Just an opinion from a humble magpie fan who wants a harmonious TEAM where everyone encourages and inspires each other. Not too much to ask for, is it?

So does this justify what I mentioned a couple of weeks ago...

should have Collingwood traded Buckley? and got something for him, when they had a chance to broker the deal of a lifetime

what do the new collingwood folk think??? go back a month and would you think about swapping Buckley to StKilda for draft picks 1 2 and 4, giving Collingwood the first four picks...

what spiderchick someone being shot down for making a comment about collingwood, thats not like collingwood supporters

and rooboy there is two ways to look at it, this team isnt going to do anything while buckley is there so get rid of him and get some good draft picks for him
but on the other hand without him there is no one to guide the current kids, after buckley the next most experiences is almost anthony rocca

Sorry Walshy, I don't want to argue with you but I have to disagree (not totaly) with you on this. I think that Scott Burns would be the next to step up and take charge.. Although Pebbles I think would also be a good choice and he is probably who they would choose.

Collingwood would be stupid if they ever got rid of Buckley......even if it was for a number of high draft picks.

Don't trade away your champions. Ever. You live to regret it.

You dont always regret trading champions Dan. Just mostly. The Salmon/Jarman/Wellman/Barnard/Chick trade being a case in point. Though it was champion for champion everyones done pretty well from it.

Though personally i still think the Dons should have kept him and played him in the RUCK. But no no im Kevin Sheedy and we have Sommers and Easty and we will trade in Grgic and Allessios okay and........

On Buckley though, as one of the Woods people said, he just doesnt look to have the interpersonel skills to inspire through cajolling/lauding his teamates. He has to do it all through his own ability (which is huge btw) to inspire by exeptional play. While this can be brilliant imagine the tolls taken on him after five years of (lets face it) pathetic on field performance by his club. Then this season they start of with a blaze of glory only to peter out in a very soft way. What sort of effect would that leave with figjam?

Dont know about his captaincy skills but perhaps the Woods might be better of if a Burns or (shot in the dark this one) Richardson took up the reigns.

The Buckley rumours do the rounds every year. The difference is beng in a winning side. I've found it easier to get along with total a**holes when you are winning. Once the loses mount up, things get a little tenser! I'm sure the a**holes would say the same about me.
