Coach Buckley steps down

The way Buckley walked away was a lesson in dignity.

I was hoping that we could as an online community find it in ourselves to afford him the same thing in this thread.

Someone will offer him another gig if he wants it; unlike Voss that offer will come sooner. While I cannot see him going down the assistant coach route at this time I reckon he'd make a great footy manager and would love to see him in that role at Collingwood in a decade from now. He's also astute enough to hold a board position, again another role I'd love to see him in at Collingwood in a decade or so.

I say a decade, because we need to give the new coach space to breathe and also for Buckley to have some time separation.
I doubt Bucks will ever return to the club in an official capacity.

You'd like to see him at Collingwood in a decade or so! You're obviously considerably younger than me. What he does in ten years time is of little consequence to me.
I'm in a weird middle stage where I read some things and feel old and read other things like your post and feel young. The latter have been getting fewer and fewer though. To give an indication using the current situation I'm a little shy of being pizer eligible in Vic.

Geez GG, nursing homes still have TVs. Give it 10 years and maybe they have some interactive experience and in your wandering off years you may get to feel you are still at the game. Maintain the rage

Some hyperbole scattered about at the darkest of moments does no harm. Our coach resigning is only a once in ten year event. Why not milk tragedy for every drop and more of drama that it possesses.

What disappoints me is Bucks' comments about the need for fresh perspectives & fresh ideas, and yet he hasn't been willing to bring that in for himself through new assistants. I'm not sure if it has been a lack of self-awareness until now, or if he just wasn't willing to have the tough conversations with his close mates, but things might have ended differently if he'd acted on this earlier.

Nursing homes are already under fire for failing to adequately provide for the most basic needs of patients. Do you truly believe they will invest in the development of 'interactive experience' for elderly folk?

In 10 years time, entertainment will still consist of a cold cuppa sipped in a stale smelling armchair, while being harassed by a bunch of over zealous volunteers to flap an arm or move a lip to indicate you're still alive.!

Based on what? We have a severe lack of depth right now that will take a few years to fix.

We won't be bouncing anywhere in the next year or 2.

I'm very bullish about our kids.

Ross Lyon Is saying that we are a huge club

And.... ?

Broadly considered if not the then 1 of the largest clubs in the land. Some will argue we aren't against different metrics, but that doesn't change the broader perceptions.

If the club wanted him to see out the season, then that is what he would have done.
It’s pretty clear that wasn’t the case.

He'd hardly be coaching Monday if the club thought his departure was desperately needed. All seems pretty amicable to me. After giving it some thought I think it's just about providing clear air during the recruitment process.

Haven't read through the entire thread so might have been said earlier but:

Yesterday's announcement was the best handled thing this club has done for some time. All class and done with perfect timing. Let Nathan go with the utmost dignity while still making clear why we needed to change. All 3 people at the press conference yesterday spoke really well and they certainly gave the impression of being open and honest about the situation.

After reflection I reckon the timing is strongly dictated by the stirring win over Adelaide. Gave Bucks the chance to go out on a *relative* high which reinforces the fact that it's not a traditional coach axing. If it'd been done the week before, or after a presumed loss to Melbourne the narrative would be that something in that last match made his position untenable and forced the club's hand. This also now gives Harvey and the club the extra bye week to make the transition.

It was exactly what I wanted. I have the utmost respect and admiration for Bucks, but it was time to change. I wanted a new direction but didn't want Bucks hung out to dry and made a scapegoat.

We've done the right thing so far, now let's make sure we do a proper search to uncover the best person to take us upward in the future.

The club has succumbed to the negative minded people inside and out. It didn't hang tough for its president, it didn't hang tough for its players and now it hasn't hung tough for its coach. Buckley and his remaining players kept fighting, but the club has let them down. If I was Scott Pendlebury, I would be asking myself "what is the point of being here?" Likewise the others who have given everything they had.

I have found it very hard to read the sometimes disgusting vituperation directed at our coach and players on this board. Some people have a strange view of the meaning of the word "supporter" It's probably time I had a little holiday from Big Footy.

Bucks should go to fox footy to teach slobbo how to use the internet properly

"HELLO BUCKS. CAN. YOU. HEAR. ME?????

It's been a revolving door of new people into the coaching panel. Added Black, Caroll, and Jamar over the off season, promoted Skipworth.
