All I can say is is that at least we lost to a pretty good opponent. If we lost to North Melbourne like Geelong are, then I'd be pissed off to the max. I think people should give Buckley time. Like some have said, a lot of them have been coached by Mick and only know of Micks ways. Given time, they will adapt to Buckleys. The window is still open for us but the players really have to start picking up their game if they even want the slightest chance at a top 4 spot.

I think most are pissed off by the way we lost, not that we actually lost. Structure seemed non existant, gameplan not working and players disinterested.

people forget just how long the season is.

our run in the middle of the season is pretty good.. we could be sitting in a good spot come round 11, with most of our players back (obviously not the ACL guys), and a bit of a settled line up and consistency in game plan - things might not be looking so bleak.

Exactly. That's the way I'm looking at it. Yeah, losing to Carlton in such a godawful way is frustrating but our players are still getting used to the new tactics. If you look at it this way: Look how long it took Mick to make the counter, get all the players used to it and to be able to execute it to precision. It took years of building. I'm not saying that it will take years but time, yes. I don't think we'll be out of the bottom 8. We'll be in it. Top 4? Possibly. If we buck our ideas up, if the players stick to what the gameplan is and stop ****ing around, then maybe. We certainly have the talent to be a Premiership contender.

Collingwood of 2011 were "off" all year and got by on a reputation and a few individuals who elevated their game, but all in all the team of 2011 was a little off in intensity, even supporters were ho-hum turning up each week. I don't see this year any different to last except we've got a massive bag of early season injuries and a player group needing to adjust their game style and learn that you have to be great at the 20-35m kick now.

This whole rubbish of Malthouse boundary v Buckley corridor is crap. Heath Shaw's kick in the preliminary final in the 3rd quarter won us the game when he kicked a 30m kick to Jarrod Blair into the corridor that opened up Hawthorn. In the presser afterwards Malthouse applauded the kick saying it was the one he wanted the players to take all night. So Bucks is coaching that in as a normal transition and people are wanting to revert? Get over it.

My biggest worry is that the fitness staff haven't got the team match fit for 4 quarters of AFL footy, they've really dropped the ball there. I get the concept of slow build for a peak in Septemeber but you're really dancing with fire because of the lady luck called injuries. Much better with early wins and resting players through the year. Buttifant has had a shocker.

Ebbs and flows of a season when a team is unsettled are going to catch a lot of people out come the end of the season. Right now we are at a low but next week we could smash port in 2010 style footy. Everyone will then be happy, its good to have a bit of perspective before suggesting we have chosen the wrong path to go down.

All this talk is horsesh!t, you can't work to a gameplan if you don't win the contested ball. Jolly, Swan and Pendles in the spotlight this week not Buckley.

Regarding the alleged clash of philosophies between "Motivation coming from within" (Buckley) versus "Motivation coming from the coach" (Malthouse) ...

I think both can work, and I don't think Buckley is wrong, but I do think that it takes a period of time to adjust from the old ways and to develop self motivation.

Our slide started around rnd 16 last year or thereabouts...we have continued on in the same way but add 3 knee reco's and if Bucks isn't the man..then why didn't Mick get us a 2nd premiership last year..we are all dreaming if we think we are still top 4 material...we were lucky to play in a granny last year...so yeah Mick stay where u are mate..you're doing just fine:D

Sums up the current situation. The slide did begin last year. Buckley will take some time to implement a new game plan. We are going to have to take a step back and wait, hoping we don't lose too many games or players. Any success this year will be hard-earned.
