Firstly, this is not a MM Vs Buckley thread nor for posters to rehash their tired MM opinions.

It occurred to me that a new coach generally brings his own stamp to a team. Brad Scott has obviously flipped the North game plans upside down and I was wondering "how long does it take a team to adapt to a new game style?"

Adelaide has found itself caught out a little by having an old game plan.

Now MM clearly tends toward being defensive and likes to keep possession especially around the boundary. Simplified, I know, but MM would have some set ups that are set in stone.

New coaches love to sweep clean and bring in their new ideas.

So my question is do you think we will get a lot of MM ideas coming with Bucks or will he be a totally different coach. Have we had any clues yet that Bucks is a complete "change" or will he leave set ups in place.

Normally, when coaches apply for positions they "sell" their game style among other things. We have an unusual situation here and it seems the club would not be expecting much of the same or we would have kept MM.

So what do others think Bucks game plan might look like?

If all goes to plan, Bucks will be taking over a strong list of players and a game style that could potentially win us a premiership in 2010-2011. If that is the case then there is no need for a clean sweep and starting afresh.

In the past, when coaches have taken over at clubs, (Richmond, Essendon, North) the clubs have underperformed or no longer have the desire to play for the coach. Different circumstances.

I commend Eddie and MM for being able to agree on a handover when the club is doing well. Much harder to do but much more beneficial for the club as the new coach does not need to clean up someone elses mess.

To your question larrikan I would normally just say a simple Yes. And not normally one to elaborate but my thoughts are that Bucks will be bringing a lot of Mick with him in 2012. But in a good way. They have been working together side by side for ten years. And they will be working together for a few more years to come.

We would be naive to think that even over the past couple of years when Nathan was captain that it was all Micks doing. They all work together so some of the game plans would already have some of Nathans influence.

Coaching in the past decade has changed so much and Collingwood are moving in the right direction. There will be plenty for Mick to do as director of coaching. Nathan can have all the stress of game day and all his assistants will be coming up with all the ideas for him to put together.

The club expects more of the same, good management, superior leadership :p and great footy delivered consistently something other clubs struggle to deliver. (A flag or two or three or four= the 2nd MACHINE):D

It will change if his comments when he was commentating are anything to go by, I think he has already had some influence in certain games this year in regards to how we set up ie the dogs game.

Game plans are becoming severely overrated. It's the word of the month at the moment, along with 'structures'. Leigh Matthews said it best the other week in an article on the AFL website (I'll see if I can dig it up, but it was pretty much just a reference to how insignificant game plans and the like really are to the end result)

How has Brad Scott flipped NM's game plan upside down? He has brought a lot of youth in, and they probably play a bit freer football than they did under Laids, but the core aspects at North haven't changed dramatically.

I don't think things will change that much under Bucks either, there will be tweaks here and there, especially positional, but I'm sure he respects and agrees with the majority of Mick's decisions and would be likely to carry a lot of them over.
I do think he'll be inclined to be a little more direct, but I don't think it'll be the massive flip a lot of people expect or want. Our indirect, defensive play has been responsible for far more wins than it has losses, as much as people (MM bashers in particular) would hate to believe.

*I probably didn't read the initial post as well as I should here, OP hardly even mention game plans, haha. I cbf'd deleting it now though, and the post is still sorta valid, game plans and game style are pretty much interchangeable buzz words anyway.

Quite clearly Buckley has commented that Collingwood needs to use more handball out of the backline and come back through the middle of the ground earlier than we do now.
But 2 years down the track when he takes over the game style might be sligthly different as likely that clubs will swing back to a more 1 on 1 style as it'll be about time for that rotation

I'm expecting under Buckley for there to be a mix between St Kilda's strong tackling and contest ball winning. Stylistically however we will be different in that we will be a much more attackative side with a high kick - handball ratio with a great emphasis on hurt factor on kicks. Expect relatively higher scores and a relative increase in using the corridor.

you can tell buckley has taken a massive effect in this side, just the way we have change in one year is great.

proved it tonight too that we have totally changed game plans. brad scott had no idea what we were doing.
