Buckley's Trading

Is Varcoe somehow keeping out Ox and Seeds (rebounding half back flankers / wingmen) out? That's what I was talking about - giving kids who'd fill the same role as the departing player a crack at it to see what they've got.

I agree the jury is definitely out on Varcoe (more consistent games like he produced a couple of weeks ago wouldn't hurt in that regard), but if Harry was still on board then we probably wouldn't be seeing one of the Ox or Seeds stepping out.

I suspect that if Varcoe's form dips enough then Bucks wont have any hesitation in dropping him back to the VFL side, but that was harder to do with Harry as he was somewhat of a fixture in the team for a variety of reasons.
Harry would have probably played on the wing, (because that was where he was mostly playing and due to all the back flank players we have) so I'm not sure that Ramsay and Oxley got their chance because he is gone.
Varcoe has played wing/half forward not to dissimilar to Harry and is younger, so he is keeping similar kids out and for longer.

Varcoe is miles ahead of lumumba for one reason only.
he put rockliff the mouth piece in hospital.
cant get better thaN that

I would hav thought the recruiter would hav the major say on who we draft

The coach would hav the major say on who we trade in our out.

It's an interesting question about who do you blame for recruiting.

Agree on the first one. Bucks should be asking for a player type, with Hind picking the player.

The second one is more unknown. The coach probably has the final word, (more so on who goes out) although my preference would be for Hine or someone with more of a development perspective to have at least an equal say on who comes in.

As for drafting, i think the football department ( mainly coach ) should say what our needs are, then leave it to the recruiter to find that particular talent in the draft.

As for trading, young talent ie players under say 22 should fall in the same way as drafting. Players who havent quite established themselves at their club, the recruiter would and should know more of what they could be capable of in future than the coach as he would of followed all these kids in the under age systems.

Trading for older more established players, this is where i think the coach should hav the say. They would know if that player will fit their needs

As for FA, i think that should be all the coach, shouldnt need a recruiter to make a say on a player who has played 8 years and 100 plus games.
