Bucks has earnt the right to decide when and how he departs our club and the game in general.
I dont care if he holds on to the slimmest of chances for as long as possible. If he thinks he can still extract something from his aging body....well that's good enough for me.
I hope that even if he is unable to play again this season that he seriously considers going around for 1 more year to see if next year brings him better luck.
Needless to say, his days in the midfield are over but as a forward I think he can still contribute. Not to the level we've all grown accustomed to of course, but infinitely better than the # 22-25 player on our list.
Trevor Grant........suck my balls.

From the article:
No one owes anyone anything here.

I completely disagree. Buckley is owed the option of going out on his own terms. I don't think anything the club does can repay him for the service he has given us. He has been more than a captain. For many years our whole team rested on his shoulders and it was only his ability that kept us alive.

He had a pretty good season last year after being written off with the same crap being regurgitated in this article. I'd love to see the guy get to 300 games.

A stupid article from someone not passionate about the club, and lacking the 'know' of the impact Buckley really has.
Things like;
"The suggestion that his on-ground presence would mean so much to the kids is not valid."
Complete BS. I could only imagine the benefit our young boys would be getting now playing aside him, with he's experience and knowledge. Would be great for their learning, and their confidence.

"I don't see any point in Buckley, who will be 35 in July, returning to the side. "
Pity you don't and pity your opinion doesn't matter because every Collingwood supporter sees reason in Buckley returning to the side.
We saw what he did last year, he was still extremely valuble to the side, while he's hammy are iffy, he's presence, skills and game knowledge wouldn't have changed much I would think.
"Thus, it's now time for him and the club, to let go of the idea of another comeback. "
As others said, Bucks can decide when that time is. The club has no reason to force a quick retirement upon him, he's not causing any delays or set backs for the club.
In he's own due time he can decide this, he obviously still believes he can come back or else he wouldn't be trying so I see no reason why he/the club should let go of another comeback.
Even if it was only a game to honour the king.
"Neither is anyone else talking about Buckley at Collingwood. "
I am... Not a bad player sitting on the injury list IMO ;)
Can only hope he gets back up and imagine what I team would be like with Bucks down in a forward pocket... Scary

"a lap of honour -- if the hammy can stand it -- and move on."
Nice finish idiot... Supports the fact that this article is trash used to fill up space in a trash paper.

Say strong Pie supporters, we can only hope for the return of Bucks. If it doesn't happen, so be it, but theres certainly no need to push the end quicker then its already coming.
For the hope of seeing him play 1 more game, he can sit on the veterans list for a few more years for all it matters to me :)
Honour the champ... Don't disrespect him like this garbage

Bucks will play again. He's a champion footballer, our captain, and will lead by example when he returns to the field. It wasn't long ago that he was "burning down the house" at training so the passion is still there.

Trevor Grant is starting to get a bad repuation, IMO. His last two articles (on Collingwood) leaves little to be desired.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Very well put mate.

yea one of the greatest and still one of the best footballers won't make a difference to the side.....this dude has been hanging out with WCE too much

Beautifully said mate.. A script writer couldnt have written it any betta..
Bucks will call the shots & he will be back this year, but the end is near for the champ. It will be such a sad day to see the greatest player I have seen pull on a Pies jumper, call it a day, but his presence around the club will be a force for a long , long time.
There is little doubt he will be the heir apparent to Mick, once his days are over.

Bucks has always put the club first, and his current injury will be no exception. If he doesn't think he'll get back on the field, he'll do the right thing. Until that time comes, we should do everything in our power to see Nathan gets back to doing what he does best.

Personally I still think Bucks still has a lot left to offer the club on the field, regardless of whether he is too old, former club champion etc etc etc, he is still in our best 18 so let him get out there!!!!

When Bucks does retire, does his apprentiship and then gets a senior coaching position, What if it is at another club? How are people going to feel?
It's been a long time since anyone who played for Collingwood (other than Chocco) has coached at AFL level.

I hope he does come back and coach the pies to an endless number of flags but I worry that he might do it somewhere else if the time is right for him.

I'm fairly certain the same article was written about Robert Harvey a few seasons back when he was having hammy problems....time to move on Harves...the Saints have Dal Santo, Lenny Hayes, Luke Ball, Leigh Montagna etc......and I think we have seen this year and last year that Robert Harvey is still in the Saints top 5 performers.

If anything, Buckley is more capable of a successful comeback than Robert Harvey because of his ability to play multiple roles up forward, down back.....or maybe even in the centre (although unlikely).

The facts of the matter if Buckley is healthy, he is in our best 5 players no matter what position he occupies. If Buckley and the training staff feel he can get healthy again....then he stays on the list.

Irrespective of Buckley's influence on the kids from the sideline...he aint kicking goals or laying off deft passes through traffic onto the chest of a leading forward.....so how can one say he is better off on the sidelines.

I think this article is the perfect example of Collingwood going under the radar this year......The HUN loves their pies and feel the need to whack an article in about us every chance they can get. But when we beat an Adelaide which would normally get a huge piece....Richmond loses by 157 points the next day to dominate the headlines.......drugs, tribunal hearings, sledging, Richmond......not much Collingwood amongst that!

I would agree if he were a hack taking up a spot and holding a kid back but it is the opposite . If he plays again he will contribute and help to accelerate the learning of the Pendleburys , Thomases , Shaws etc etc .

A champion of the game .
