I dont know if it is old news or not so forgive me if it is.

As I understand it though, this has not yet been advised publicly.

It was always highly likely, but personally I have an exceedingly low care factor for player numbers.

If Franklin can have a similar impact to the likes of Scott and Brereton then good and fine, but I'd be just as happy if he came on strong wearing number 50 on his back.

A number of Hawk fans have been fixated on number choices of late. To me its a worrying consequence of the club's marked fall from grace that draft picks and player numbers are very much front and centre among supporter thinking. Throw in the few who almost revel in the possibility of the club spending future years in the bottom four ("its the recession we had to have!") and we're painting a very disturbing picture.

The only thing that drives me is the prospect of improved on-field performances, and I'm not expecting to wait until 2009 for this to occur.

Agreed. John Platten anyone?
You're getting me all emotional talking about the great man...

There was a player who never needed to live-up to another player's prior efforts in a particular jumper number!

Its all a little odd that some players feel a need to wear a certain number just because previous champions did. Why not just wear the number you've got and forge your own glorious history in it?

Actually Platten wore no.44 at Central Districts before he came to Hawthorn, and that is why he chose that number. So he was not concerned with what another player had achieved at Hawthorn, but he WAS concerned about what HE had achieved at another club!!

But I agree with Cyberkev, the number on his back doesn't matter, its the deeds performed by the player that counts.

Every kid will be wearing 23 on the back like when i was a tacker watching Dermie.
...and was then embarrassed when Simon Crawshay took it over for a few years:D
