The only similarity between Carey and Buddy is they (mostly) played in the F50. Carey was the elitist's elite CHF (and occasional CHB) who demanded the footy at all times; Buddy a tall flanker with exceptional ground skills and field kicking who could play upfield for 20ish disposals or play deep forward and either kick a bag or lead the key back away from the play.

Didn't play similar roles.

One was a power forward, the other was a potent flanker. Carey's got Buddy covered in everything but speed and humility.

Neither one rivals Matthews and then probably GAS.

Buddy was the last to kick 100 goals in a season. Imo Carey is better too. But Buddy was damn good.

Franklin hit an extreme level of play when he went to Sydney. There was a period of time for 2-3 years when he was literally winning games off his own boot.

Carey hit such a level (along with Ablett) where he was dominant for a good 6-7 years in succession.
Furthermore, his aerial game was in another stratosphere by comparison to Franklin.

If Carey didn't play in such a brutal position, he too could have reached 1000 goals.

Wayne Carey for power, leadership, presence, match winner, etc. One of the best I've ever seen.
Buddy for the freakish talent, stamina, incredible goal sense and accuracy.

Buddy can hold Carey's beer but that's no disgrace either.
