It was very similar to the bump on Cousins for which he got two weeks back in 2009, only then he had less time to react and didn't hit as hard.

I think he wanted to the ball to bounce up so he could hit it at full speed, and then when it didn't sit up, he decided to bump instead, which was clearly the wrong move.

Intentionally choosing to not gather the ball, go the player and hit them clean in the head is not "part of footy".

If he tried to pick up the ball and made contact with the head in that process it wouldn't be as bad.

I thought it was a 3 week down to 2 incident. In that sense I think he's a tad lucky.
