Buddy - How many weeks?

Got to ask how this can not be seen to be worse than the Gibbs tackle? Opted to run past the ball and take the man and went high. Gibbs was tackling a guy with the ball. Highlights the ridiculousness of the MRP, had Edwards been knocked out this would have been a totally different debate

It will go like this:
Who does he play for?
Sydney you say... ok $1000 fine, no worries bud.

Hope so

Can they halve that fine, he is in a lower contract year

They got rid of reckless and instead made it only careless and intention.

Was it careless - yes. But it was more than that.
Was it intentional - well, he intending to bump him by skipping the ball. But did he intent to bump him high?
Oh shit, it was reckless, but we got rid of that.

Was it medium impact - at least.
Was it high impact - well maybe not.

If the MPR picks both the lower categories he gets 1 week off. If they pick both high categories I think he gets 3 weeks off. I guess they should just pick 1 of the higher categories and make it a 2 week ban. 2 weeks is about right, it was just too dangerous to escape with a week.

You enjoy your footy soft ? I mean fair enough you are a Freo supporter but that's just crap
We will see what the MRP come up with. The reaction at the local pub was that he had lost the plot. We only had the vision, not the sound, and there appeared to be about three incidents although they may have been replays of the first.

MRP will come up with something for the bump nothing else.

This. Buddy was in motion and didn't really have any option in his movement other than not contesting the ball.

Won't save him but he's hardly "lined up Edwards" like some idiots are proclaiming.
Dream on.
Lined him up no doubt. To say otherwise is bollox.

Has Robbie Gray awoken from his coma yet?

Buddy will get less than Gibbs based on the outcome of what happened despite Gibbs tackling while the ball was still in play and Buddy going past the ball for the man. Yet other incidents are assessed with the 'potential to cause harm' in the grading. Proves how stupid and inconsistent the MRP is

It's almost a push off by buddy with his upper arm whilst travelling at speed. It's not a hip and shoulder nor is it shoulder to head contact. Looks bad, but really isn't dangerous

Good banter m8. Clearly shoulder to face. Shoulda gone to SpecSavers

I've read the whole thread and I don't see anyone proclaiming anything of the sort! Just that the opportunity was there and he didn't try to avoid it! He should be gone, he didn't try to avoid the collision in anyway, and what he him flick his arm out after the contact!

I think it's best to compare incidents across different offences. Sling tackles are pretty consistent now. No damage - no report. KO someone - 2 weeks off.

Striking - low impact cheap jab = fine. A decent punch = 1-2 weeks. Leave someone groggy ala Yarran = 3 weeks. KO = Barry Hall 6+

With bumps the more innocent high ones that don't injure anyone are a fine or 1 week. This Franklin one should be 2. Big ones that leave players concussed are going to be 3+.

The injury shouldn't be the be all and end all like in sling tackles but it has to be part of the determination. A speeding fine is a couple of hundred bucks. Speed and run someone over and you're looking at jail time.

Lead up to bump.

That isn't going to help his case. Real lack of commitment to win the ball. Looks like he didn't want to bend his back. Nothing tough about his actions here. Tough would have been hitting the ball as hard as he hit the man.

Whilst I don't think it's suspension worthy, I think it's still a bit shit. They're out there to play football, not plan to fight people.

Usual push and shove rubbish with one player buckling to get the free kick. Yes it is ugly rubbish stuff but I'm just responding to how many weeks for it in the disdain it deserves.

Pregame push and shove with no proper punches thrown and insignificant if any high contact. The umps should pay frees if it's clearly high but the players are so good at drawing fake highs (ie diving) that it's not a big deal. It stopped as soon as the ball was bounced. Which is probably the key. Ball it up when players are in position in the centre as soon as possible, don't go waiting around.

I'm much less worried about Rance and Franklin squaring up and having some push and shove than the cheap hits to guys who aren't looking like the Hawthorn players last week.

If players look each other in the eye and want to test each other with a bit of push and shove it doesn't bother me. It's mainly the big blokes trying to craft out a bit of intimidation and it goes away soon enough. It's the right way to do it compared to anything from behind.

Personal opinion, should be 0. Was in play and I don't think a big guy should be expected to stop on a dime in a situation like that. With the tribunal guidelines, I'm guessing 1-2.
He didn't need to stop on a dime. He needed to bend over and win the ball. He was at the ball first. He puts his body on the line to win the ball and he's fine.
