Buddy - How many weeks?

I reckon he should get off. Two players at full tilt you should be allowed to brace yourself.you bend over and end up the one getting smashed. Split second decision. He will go for a couple but I don't see what he should have done different.

No eyes for the ball. Ran past the ball. These factors do not bode well for Bud. He's gone for less in the past

Kept his eye on the ball and picked it up, the onus would of then been on Edwards to slow up or try and tackle him

Continued going for the ball, rather than deciding to bump first and then go back to the ball?
I agree it was a split second decision, they normally are. And it is probably harder for experienced players, who played junior footy when that sort of thing would have drawn nothing more than a free kick. Every instinct would say it is the right thing to do, but the rule changes have been made explicitly to stop this very act.

Try hard Byron Pickett.

Give him a Calvin Klein and Bonds modelling contract, couldn't even knock out a bloke half his size.

That's actually a good comparison as they both ran past the ball and lifted the eyes up to line up the hit. Buddy might be a big unit, but I'd take a bump from him over one from Pickett every day of the week.

Also, the difference in reactions in that footage is pretty telling. No Hawthorn players remonstrate with Pickett at all and the commentators are saying things like "a good old fashioned shirtfront" and "this what the game is about".

I understand why the new rules have been brought in and they want to minimise concussions as much as possible, which is actually commendable (although my cynical side thinks it's only to avoid future lawsuits). So Buddy will go for 2, but I wish this was still the era where he wouldn't get any games off for something like that.

Probably not run past the foot the bump a bloke in the head would be the first thing.

He'll get at least 1 at least, purely as Edwards went off with the concussion sub..

Realistically, he could get a lot more as 1) ran passed the footy, 2) took his eyes off the ball, and 3) actually seemed to accelerate into the contact.

But yeah, I say 2 down to 1 will most likely be the result.

Not sure why Bud does this, seems to do this sort of thing every year

Started going for the ball, but then made the decision to take out the opposing player first. That presumably makes it deliberate, given there are only two gradings now. There's no doubt contact was high. Whether the MRP goes by the act or the result might determine whether it is medium or low force. I always go by the act, making it medium (high could be argued). That would be three as a base, down to two with an early plea.

It looks as though he has only been suspended for one game in the past two years, so the extra game will not be added. (Unless that was two down to one as the extra match is on the "base" penalties adding up to two games or more.)

Double checked; the bump on Malceski in round 23 of 2013 was a 2 down to 1 weeker.

This. Buddy was in motion and didn't really have any option in his movement other than not contesting the ball.

Won't save him but he's hardly "lined up Edwards" like some idiots are proclaiming.

Yep, again the slow-motion gif isn't as useful as the actual footage. Buddy tore in at this ball at full speed. There was always going to be heavy contact. The ball bounced low and to the side, instead of up, and Buddy elected to bump.

3 down to 2.

2 weeks for Buddy.
1-2 weeks for Tippett
At least 2 weeks for the Goodes squirrel grip.

2 with an early plea for buddy

Tippett might get off with a fine imo, was pretty pathetic in a way but you may be right

Goodes wont get anything despite the constant hope of everyone to try and get him rubbed out for nothing

Tippett made pretty solid contact, though. He'll get one.

**** knows what Goodes thought he was doing.

Is it too much to ask that we leave out discussion of Goodes in every single thread? If you honestly think he has anything to answer, you are an ignorant fool and there is no point in engaging you on any level. But that's irrelevant, because this is a thread about Buddy. I hate the internet sometimes. It makes me angry about really inconsequential things.

4 weeks if he played for West Coast. The AFL don't dare rub out their love children though. Buddy maybe gets a 1 week rest, Tippett gets nothing, and Goodes will get an apology from Gillon personally for everybody looking at his incident.
