Tarkyn Lockyer #24
__Tarkyn_Lockyer_135px.jpg
Tarkyn_24's Buddy

And they say that a hero can save us...

Tarkyn Lockyer has put a solid pre season behind him, and pushed forward in his quest to help the Magpies make the Top 8 this year by playing a heroes role in the gut-wrenching clash vs the Kangaroos, Round 1, early today. As the Pies snuck home by 3 points against a spirited Roos squad, Lockyer showed that he played an influential role in Collingwood's line up, being perhaps Collingwood's best player on the day and definitely one of the best two or three. His effort in the first half, when the Pies were struggling, was good in comparison to his teammates. In the third quarter, he showed glimpses of trying to wrest the game back. But it was the last quarter, when Lockyer managed a snap goal, that turned the Pies into a formidable outfit, as they slammed goal after goal through to catch the Roos. Inspired by Tarkyn's performance, mainly from the last quarter the Pies got up in a thriller.

My Rating: 9/10
An OK start, but Lockyer looked more and more comfortable as the game wore on. Pencil him in for at least one Brownlow vote.

13 kicks, 6 handballs, 19 possessions, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 1 goal

Hey there Presti fans!

I’ve got my report on round 1.

Another day at the office. Gave ’em nothing’ as usual. Is there a better full back then me? These nancy boy forwards! Lambs to the slaughter! What can I say.

Love Presit – NO GOALS FOR YOU!

RHYCE SHAW #22

My buddy, Rhyce Shaw, one of the few decorated scrapegoats on the list, played alright. He found some space, ran well, but didn't damage the Roos.
There's no doubt he should improve based on today's performance. He is a senior player and leader of note.
He could take Chris Judd, next week, whom he's had some success on as a tagger in the past, but as we know Judd is the best midfielder in the competition. Though, it could be the catalyst of another 'dream' performance that saw him come from nowhere prior to doing his knee, in 2004, and on the back of a good game in the 2006 Elimination Final against the Dogs.

Go Shawy! :)

ANTHONY ROCCA

Anthony presented well and was our only real target up forward. Pushed up the ground a bit to far, but in Tarrant's absence i suppose someone has to do it. He did'nt kick any goals but had a few close shots, crashed packs and created a contest at every oppurtunity. Overall a decent performance considering the delivery and the crowded forwardline.

6/10

Guy Richards

Got a few taps but to few to advantage.

Has some work to do but just needs to string some games together to improve his confidence and timing.

Not prepared to write him off after just 1 game.

I chucked mine in the Magpies Nest thread, as did Lica's ;)

Buddy Report - Heath Shaw
Rnd 1 vs Kangaroos

heater07sf4.png

Heath once again looked rock solid in defence as the Pies go to man as he provided the run and drive off half-back. Shaw had a Pies high 27 possessions, including 22 kicks, and also had 12 marks, of which 2 were contested. His courage was shown in many contests, one where he stopped a big chance for the Roos where he dived infront of a marking contest causing a spoil, and what looked like an injury, laying on the ground for several seconds, but the tough man he is, he continued on.

Those were the positives, but the negatives are there as well. Heater had an amazing 13 clangers, a record for my mind since the stat has been published. 5 of those were a result of free kicks against Shaw, which a couple may not have been there, but that is an umpiring issue. He also had some major errors which may have cost the game. A pass from Leon Davis into the goalsquare, by himself would've seen another goal, but a fumble 5 metres out with no pressure certainly made him a villian, and then to give Shannon Grant a 50 metre penalty in the last minutes, in which Grant would shank beautifully off his boot, Shaw was saved.

Rating: 5 out of 10 (Tot: 5)

Hard to rate Malthouse's performance, especially when the team is playing so badly.

I was impressed with the way he used Medhurst, as an in and under forward, as well as a crumber and leading forward. The varied styles worked very wel.

I really think Rocca needs to stay closer to the goal square. When Rocca drops a mark near the 50 (more often than not) it is turned over = frustrating.

I think Josh was played in the ruck far too much. If we want Richards to flourish as a ruckman, leave him in the ruck for most of a bloody game!!!
We could have done with another tall target in the forward line, Josh would have been valuable there.

Pendles was used fantastically, he was the creator and the link player throughout defense, attack and in the midfield. Message to mick: Leave him on the ball!!!!!!!!!!! Don't mess with his progress.

Was Clement used superbly, or is Clement just superb? He was dominant.

Ryan Lonie. Looked confused all game. Malthouse needs to play him as an attacking wingman or hal forward flanker. In the backline he just looks lost.

Hard to judge the rest. I think Mick probably had the right idea in most parts of the ground, but our skills overall were woefull.

Biggest mistake however for me was Josh in the ruck.
Biggest positive was the style of game Medhurst played.

James Clement

Stats: 17 Kicks, 6 Handballs, 13 Marks, 3 Tackles,1 Goal

Without Question, Jimmy Clement was our only four quarter contributer, clearly being best on ground in what was a very, very ordinary performance from the Pies. Leading from the front as skipper in the absence of Bucks, Jimmy was the rock down back that kept a cool head under a barrage of forward forays from a fired up Kangas attack and midfield that was running rings around our soft and inept on-ball brigade. His positioning, spoiling, disposal and rebound from defence were first class. His efforts down the back, coupled with the Kanga's shocking conversion rate really kept us in the contest. He was our only player in the first three quarters that showed any poise and made the right decision when choosing which option to kick to.

Watching from the Collingwood stand, you certainly feel the frustration and disappointment that Jimmy had in his teams performance, he was busting a gut down back, only to watch our mids and forwards turn it over time after time. He took it upon himself to stream forward, take a great mark and kick truely from 45m. It provided the crowd and team with the spark it needed and create a sense of belief among the group.

Jimmy has started off the season with a bang, a few of his team mates should take a leaf out of his book for our clash with the Weagles next week.

Rating 10 out of 10.

Bay Pie - you have gone very easy on Richards. Don't hold back, please ;) !

True, but we seem to have enough supporters who continually bag our own players.

I'm trying to stay positive. If we give him a good go and if he does no good then it will be decision time on his career at seasons end.

Very dissapointing game by Didak, not up to his usual standards, but still played better than Richards :D

Couldn't agree more. James Clement is a champion. :thumbsu:

Ryan Cook

Played alright for the gulls apparently.

This from Foxy at Nicks board
cook - hard to say. his goal-kicking was certainly off, but he does get handy touches around half-forward, and he has good instinct in congestion.

Holland probably sat in the stands somewhere, or was off at the pub, or something, probably downed a few, got a hold of more balls then what Archer did all day.

Kicked a bag of spuds, got a hit out, which landed him in the tribunal, he should be fit to sit in the stands nexr week folks. Oh his foot is okay he'll be kicking more spuds next week then he did this week I can feel it now.

Round 1 vs Roos

Time on Ground: 102 mins

18 possesions - 1 goal 2 behinds

3 marks

2 clearances

3 tackles

1 free for 1 free against

5 clangers

Not his best game by a mile but cant say I was either disappointed or expectant of a big game today. He had only played I think 2 practice matches prior to today, so I think the run will do him good. I would love to give him a rating, but after one game I cant. But I know he will bounce back this week.

I hope his a kick ass game over here in Perth in round 2!!

Ryan Lonie

Ok I'm meant to write positve stuff right??

Here goes...

His skills were generally pretty good. Long ranging left foot kicking was his specialty and there was plenty of that on Saturday...

Stats:

10 kicks
6 HB
3 Marks
2 Tackles

His hard ball gets were sensational. His tackling was hard. His courage should never be questioned. Heater might learn a thing or two from Lonie.

Had a heap of the ball and broke the lines well. An inside midfielder in the making. When he's wasn't shirking his own shadow he had his head over the ball dishing off to burns and Pendles.

In a positive sort of way i gave him a 2/10.

Did run with Wells who was poo, should give it a mention.

True dat...and i guess he did a pretty good job. Not sure what Wells' stats were but deff no influence so in that respect. A win for Lonie.

He would have to be one of the most frustrating players on our list though. Tonnes of potential. I think Malthouse will give him a lot of run-with roles this year. Could yet become a regular midfielder in the years to come.
