I'm trying not to get sucked into the off season hype train

But it feels like the club is heading in the right direction

Of course we are.

That's because we've replaced the trailer trash brothers with a disciplinarian. And Whaley getting punted with his deplorable drafting is another bonus.

Get rid of Brandon and we are Superbowl bound!

If Brandon stays front office he's fine.

McDermott looks the goods and having a GM on the same page helps.

This is the first real reset of the football department under the Pegulas it will be interesting to see if they have learnt from.thr Sabres

Bills rookie QB Nathan Peterman saw time with the second-team offense at training camp.

Peterman mixed in with T.J. Yates after working strictly with the third team at OTAs. Both quarterbacks have reportedly failed to impress early in camp. Peterman doesn't have an exciting profile but offers more upside than Yates, who was out of the league until December last year. WKBW's Joe Buscaglia doesn't consider Yates a lock for the backup role.

Bills signed WR Anquan Boldin to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.

The deal includes another $1.25 million in incentives. GM Brandon Beane said talks with Boldin were "at a stall" last week, but the veteran apparently had a change of heart over the weekend. Boldin will not offer much down the field, but he should be a reliable target for Tyrod Taylor both underneath and in the red zone. With Boldin in town, rookie Zay Jones' redraft value takes a big hit.

--------------

ABC Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes second-rounder Zay Jones could still win No. 2 duties following the signing of Anquan Boldin.

So do we, but the problem for Jones is that the distinction between No. 2 and 3 is no longer that significant. The Bills had a depth chart canyon behind Jones before snagging Boldin. Jones is no longer guaranteed enough targets to make him immediately viable in re-draft leagues.

Anquan Boldin has been lining up in the slot with the Bills' first-team offense.

That's where Boldin spent 82.9 percent of his time for the Lions last season. Boldin's occupation of the middle means second-rounder Zay Jones will primarily work on the perimeter. Boldin has caught at least 56 passes every year since 2003.

Second-round sophomore Reggie Ragland has been demoted to the third-team defense.

Ragland had been competing with Preston Brown for the starting job at middle linebacker, but he now finds himself behind Gerald Hodges as well. Coming off a season-ending knee injury and not a particularly great fit in the new scheme, ESPN's Mike Rodak thinks Ragland could be placed on the trade block.

Wow Bills.

Acquired J.Matthews and EJ Gaines AND a 2nd and 3rd (gave away a 6th)

Exchanged a WR and a CB for a WR and a CB and got two high picks next year.
Struggling to comprehend this, that could be my early rise coupled with a hangover.

Positives- Matthews is an accomplished NFL receiver, not sure if he's at Sammy's playmaking level though. I don't know much about EJ Gaines.

Bills now have two picks in each of the first three rounds of the 2018 draft. And cap space too.

Negatives- Losing both of your number one receiver and cornerback one month before the season starts is far from ideal.

I'm bummed about Sammy, if he has a good year this year and goes on to be the player we thought it will be painful

we've spent a couple of years hoping we get to see this kid become the superstar we know he could without injury, now that has suddenly been ripped away

i hope the bills go on a 16 game losing streak and get the top pick, don't half ass it if you want to rebuild, thats been the bills mistake the last what 17 years, finishing in no mans land

And then this....

-------

New Bills WR Jordan Matthews is "week to week" with a "chip fracture in his sternum."

Matthews suffered the injury during his first practice with the team on Sunday. "Week to week" is not a telling timetable, and it is unclear if Matthews will return for Week 1. Even if he does, it sounds like he is going to miss multiple weeks of practice, a major concern as he attempts to settle in with his new team. It is not inconceivable second-rounder Zay Jones opens the season as the No. 1 option.
