The NRL do $10 tickets for the Canturbury home game over easter. It gets the NRL their biggest H&A game of the season, and they crow endlessly about it's success.

Imagine if you offered $10 tickets for a a GWS v Collingwood game at Accor. It would attract alot of Collingwood supporters and make it worthwhile for a re-configeration.

That would take thought. Our board and the AFL are stuck on the “everyone’s second team” thing.

It’s a great idea though.

I noticed that the club has introduced public transport integration with game day tickets for this season at Engie. Appears the T&Cs were uploaded onto the member portal today. :)

Hopefully should assist support crowds and may make coming to our games even more attractive.

Looking ahead, there's no major trackwork on the network in the vicinity according to the Transport NSW trackwork planner for the opening round Hawks or Saints game which should also assist with crowds, with the exception of the NW metro which has no trains between Chatswood and Tallawong for both games.

They need to make it known. Most people don’t look in the t&cs.

Get it out there that a day at the Giants isn’t breaking the bank for families

I'd say that they should have it multiple locations and promote it, as well as, purchasing membership page as a member benefit. Given the date of the URL is today's date I'd say they should be updating it in different locations and making it known in due course.

I think when purchasing a ticket to a game it'll also have it on the ticket as well.

"I think we've proven to be the AFL team for the people of Canberra and Southern NSW."

Dave clinging on tight there.

Interesting that at about 10:53, Matthews said "the AFL, the Giants and the Swans need to think about Olympic Stadium, what the future is there".

That would mean its oval configuration is still possible.

It seems our CEO is happy to play a game for premiership points in USA or even India.

When asked by Morris if the club still had interest in going stateside for a match, Matthews admitted he still did.
But he emphasised that it needs to be the real deal rather than just an exhibition match.
“I’d be happy to play there (in the US),” Matthews told SEN’s Crunch Time.

Whilst the United States has been a place the AFL has wanted to expand its game to, Dillon has also wanted to push into markets closer to home, like India.
Earlier in the year, the AFL CEO made a trip to the country to learn more about how to try to grow the sport within the community.
While it wasn't an immediate goal, Dillon floated the possibility of a home and away match being played there down the track.
This was also an option that Matthews was open to, noting the number of past and current Australian cricketers who support the Giants, which could help market a potential match.
“I’d be open to either,” he added.
“It’s interesting because our No. 1 ticketholders are Mitch Starc and Alyssa Healy, and you look at Steve Waugh, who comes to our games a lot.
“There is a lot of cricket momentum around AFL that you could see lending itself to a huge promotion in a place like India.
“At the same time, 40 million people in California, as Kevin Sheedy has always said, should learn to love our game as well.”

When they were looking at it pre-Covid, the reports had the Giants hosting.

Does that make it only six home games in Sydney?

Btw just to clarify I don’t agree with our club playing overseas games - I think playing games across both our Engie and Manuka home grounds is hard enough without the logistics of preparing for overseas travel, jet lag etc. I posted this as I came across this article, and thought it would be useful to see what our club leaders were thinking in terms of our club’s future.

I read it as our club being open to either US or India, not both?

I didn’t mean both either, it's just that there's a high likelihood that it would be a Giants home game, which means it would have to come out of a Sydney game as they're hamstrung with the Canberra deal.

Although it could be a move to pivot to life post-Canberra. Working on a game to fill the gap over Easter, gain some revenue, while then getting to play 10 games at Engie.

The games at Engie already have a big enough gap with the game on the 21st of March being the last game until the 9th of May, in allegedly what is the most competitive sports market in the country .. I can't see a game being taken overseas not making the gaps between games even longer.

I meant that as a post-Canberra move. So just the one game missing from Engie

I don’t know if Dave has much bigger ambitions for our club than beyond WS or Canberra or even Sydney? I would not have looked at playing games in the US/ India given the challenges and risks, but I guess that’s why he is the CEO and I’m not!. I think the club also mooted selling games to MCG as well?

We've got bigger problems at the moment than indulging in vanity projects.

we are a stepping stone in his career. His eyes are on a bigger prize at AFL House.

All he listens to are marketing “experts” who tell him “hey we can be for everyone, why just be for one area”.

He hates Western Sydney and the association with it.

Wishes we never had it in our name, said as much in a podcast, he loses more and more respect from me daily.

He's a CEO. It's all about the $$$.
Plenty of CEOs are smart enough to realise the “hey we can be for everyone” Aussie marketing idea is beyond stupid.

Every club that has tried it in every sport, funnily enough only in Australia, has turned back.

All Super Rugby teams? Turned back.
AFLs North Melbourne? Turned back
NBLs Illawarra? Turned back
NRLs Canterbury/Cronulla? Turned back and with the Dolphins their fans chant Redcliffe.

Nowhere outside of Australia has ever done this that I know off, no big leagues of any major sport.

It’s so stupid when you also realise how parochial Western Sydney people are. Most sports and clubs lean into it. But no not our Mr Matthews. He knows better 🙄

Dave Matthews wants the 2 pre season games to be scrapped and played for premiership points instead - this effectively means all clubs will get an extra home game. It seems our Giants football hierarchy are in favour too.

"I just don't think we play friendlies in this competition, and I looked at that game where we played Collingwood in Bundoora, you think to yourself, 'That would be the perfect game for us to be able to promote a game in say Canberra'. We don't have Collingwood in Sydney this year.

"Those games, to me, should be for four points, and the consequence of the extra games is you probably reduce the game time so you are not trying to put more load on the players. Rather than just play a friendly, just play a four-pointer in my view."

Matthews said Giants executive general manager Jason McCartney and coach Adam Kingsley share a similar belief, while he thinks AFL head-honcho Andrew Dillon is also open to the concept.

The dope would sell the home game.
