Competitions Bulldogs board phantom draft

Apologies for delay.

Pick 22 - Sydney - Tim O'Brien
SA - Glenelg - Tall Forward
192cm, 81kgs

Sydney are set for most positions, and noting they don't draft HBFers or Ruckmen (they trade them in) I decided to go for someone who will take time. With Gary Rohan on the list, they are ok with having gingers at the club which is good for Tim.
O'Brien is on the radar of most clubs as a late 1st round/early 2nd round pick, and his Drafty Combine results are doing his chances no end of good, with his 20m sprint and agility tests in the elite category (3rd overall for agility, 20m sprint sub 3 sec, top 10 overall for repeat sprints).

Kevin Sheehan says: “Tall, quick moving forward whose X-factor is his overhead marking. Averaged five marks and 2.2 goals per game in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and is a reliable set shot for goal. His six goals against Tasmania in Round One was a highlight.”

Dannnnnnnnnn up next for Brisbane
WB are supposedly interested in O'Brien. He looks worryingly like Grant in build, face and description. Hope he fills out a bit more than Grant has.

Sorry once again - got busy all of a sudden. :p

Pick 23 - Brisbane - Tim Broomhead
182cm, 73kg
BROOMHEAD-Tim-2012.jpg

Broomhead is an incredibly versatile utility from South Australia. His game is solid, whether in the forward line, midfield, or back line. While his skills are not elite, this kid has some definite pace, marking ability and grunt. Lovely inside game and will probably develop into an inside clearance specialist (I can see him becoming something like a smaller, faster Matthew Boyd). Will have to start in the forward line in his first couple of years, but I can see him really complementing the likes of Daniel Rich, Jack Redden, Tom Rockliff and Dayne Zorko in the midfield. Will develop at the same time as our young forward line and hopefully aid us in moving the ball out of stoppages cleaner and quicker.

He can rotate in the forward line while still developing - we have been quite impressed by his goal-sense as well.

GWS pick #24 - Josh Simpson
183cm, 72kg

Although a slight player, who still needs to build his body up, Simpson's speed and agility is outstanding. A traditional outside player with explosive evasiveness, is ball usage is generally good on both sides of his body. Can play either through the midfield, on the wings or up forward. His size may be an issue, but his ability to move through traffic and make the right decisions makes him one for the future.

murphy2bedabest who will the Suns choose?!? only time will tell!!

He's a little heavier and taller, by 3 degrees of separation he is supposedly a good kid who will work hard in the AFL system. There still seem to be a few quality players left in the draft at this stage.

GC pick 25 Jesse Lonergan (TAS - Mid)
Height: 181cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 14/11/1994
Recruited from: Launceston

Jesse is a ready made inside mid who will fit in right at GC, more so with the loss of Caddy, is very much a clearances player

Lonergan has already been taken.

Port Adelaide - Pick 28 Nathan Hrovat
175cm 79kg

Some may see it as over reaching taking Hrovat here, but I disagree. Height may play against him in the actual draft, but I hope we (bulldogs) take him at 21. He racks up a ton of the ball, is an excellent clearance player. Won the Vic Metro MVP for the national champs, and earned All Australian honours.

Pick 29: Richmond Aidan Corr
Tall defender who is extremely competitive by nature and spoils aggressively. Has good speed and agility for a tall and uses the ball well by foot to advantage. Takes a strong mark and can go forward to good effect. Injured just prior to Round 4 and 5 of the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and missed the final two matches. AIS-AFL Academy member

Brisbane - pick 30 - Tim Sumner
187cm, 83kg
SUMNER-Tim-2012.jpg

Tim is an incredibly quick midfielder/forward from Woodville West - and his exceptional height just adds another layer. Supreme mark and knows exactly where the goals are. We see him playing as a bit of a small forward role despite his height, but his overhead skills allow him to play as a lead-up forward as well. Gets a lot of his own ball, but needs to work on both his tackling, defensive pressure and consistency.

Josh Simpson, East Fremantle, 184cm, 73kg, 9/2/94
Draft range: 15-25

Simpson's combination of pace, endurance and skill make him an intriguing prospect. He doesn't get a stack of possessions at this point in his career, but is dangerous around goals and when he's got the ball he's just exciting to watch. He's very evasive, excels in traffic, breaking away from packs, and is a neat disposer of the ball by hand and foot on both sides. Finished equal first in the kicking efficiency test at the combine and equal second in the goalkicking test.

Pick 32 - Nathan Wright,
(Def/Mid) Dandenong Stingrays, 183cm, 78kg

Kevin Sheehan says:
“Medium midfielder/defender who attacks the ball aggressively and rarely fumbles. Strong and courageous in the air, he also excels at the stoppages. Loves the physical pressure of the game, winning contested ball and tackles strongly. Averaged 14.8 disposals and was impressive in his four matches for Vic Country in this year’s Under-18 championships. AIS-AFL Academy member”

Profile:
Missed much of the first half of the season but since injury has put together some really nice form. Wright is an athletic defender who can also push into the midfield and have an influence. Wright has excellent pace and a great leap on him. As a defender Wright has the ability to play shutdown roles on smaller or medium types but can also run off a back flank and provide some rebound. Defensively he can go with most players in the air and won’t get burned by too many quicker types. Has the ability through his running to do some damage and can really burst away off a back flank with his explosiveness. With his leaping ability has the ability to take some highflying marks and with this feature of his game might also have potential as a forward. Tackling ability good. Wright also has the ability to go through the midfield, win his own ball and play a role. Kicking is mostly good and even at full pace can execute. I do have some questions under pressure how good Wright’s ball use is and I have some minor questions about his decision making ability in these situations but there is plenty to work with here.

Rory Atkins

Atkins is a forward who can also push up into the midfield. Excellent by both hand and foot rarely missing a target. What makes him stand out is his decision making under pressure and his ball use in congestion, making decisions quickly and makes the right ones consistently. Strong overhead at his size. Above average athlete and has some ball winning ability. Running ability has much improved and has really built that ability to push up the ground and get his hands on the ball move.
