"Collingwood is expected to land gun Western Bulldogs midfielder Jamie Lambert as part of a three-club deal that will see Collingwood vice captain Alicia Eva go to the Giants.

The Magpies are expected to hand the Bulldogs the pick they secure from GWS for Lambert.

Things are hotting up!

THE LIKELY DEAL:
GWS gives Collingwood picks 1 + 9.
Collingwood exchange Alicia Eva and pick 5 to GWS.

Collingwood to give WB picks 1, 4 and 12 in exchange for Jamie Lambert and pick 3"

Not a bad deal on face value i'd have thought.
So would that give us the first 2 picks in the vic pool?

Lambert is a potential gun that played last season hurt.

100% agreed, she was a major key in the midfield and forward line a few games into the season.

It's very interesting what Bulldogs do from her, do we take Harris with the first pick or trade that onto Blues for a marquee player.

Or don't even draft harris and stick the draft.

After a week of next to nothing on the trade front, a three-way deal involving Collingwood, GWS and the Western Bulldogs has been reached.
Collingwood has traded Alicia Eva and pick 5 to GWS in exchange for picks 1 and 9, and further traded picks 1, 4 and 12 to the Bulldogs for Jaimee Lambert and pick 3.

Alicia Eva (left) is headed to GWS while Jaimee Lambert (right) becomes a Magpie.
The Bulldogs were essentially forced into making a deal with the Magpies, who would have otherwise been able to use pick 1 to select Victoria-bound Tayla Harris in the AFLW Draft.

With forward trio Moana Hope, Jasmine Garner and Jessica Duffin (nee Cameron) already on their list, Harris is not required at Collingwood.

Smartly, the Magpies worked the Bulldogs into the trade to get Lambert and pick 3, now the second overall pick in the Victorian draft, which could be used to draft forward Chloe Molloy, dynamic midfielder Isabel Huntington or any of the GWS players seeking a path home to Victoria.

Lambert won the Bulldogs’ best and fairest in 2016 for her performance in the club’s women’s exhibition matches.

The goal-kicking midfield struggled through injury issues in the 2017 AFLW season, however, and was frequently played out of position due to Katie Brennan’s absence.

While not as obvious of a win for GWS, the signing of Alicia Eva is a big coup for the club that will reportedly lose a number of Victorian players who are seeking an avenue back home in the draft.

Eva, who is a Calder Cannons TAC Cup Girls premiership winning coach and finished second in the Magpies’ B&F count, reportedly requested a trade late last week.

Having turned down a contract with the Lions, Tayla Harris is not eligible for free agency and will become draft eligible if she doesn’t re-sign or be traded before May 25.

Magpies get:
Jaimee Lambert (Western Bulldogs)
Pick 3 (pick 2 in the Victorian draft)
Pick 9 (pick 5 in the Victorian draft)

Giants get:
Alicia Eva (Collingwood)
Pick 5

Bulldogs get:
Pick 1 (Tayla Harris)
Pick 4 (pick 3 in the Victorian draft)
Pick 12 (pick 7 in the Victorian draft)

We draft Chloe Molloy from Diamond Creek. Gun forward and still young.
I reckon we could still get her at number 4, We tech had number 1 in the vic draft so trading up is very interesting

We could potentially grab Molloy AND Harris since Pies are unlikely to take Harris given they have Hope, Garner etc as the article states.

I would go Molloy first, she is a gun and can only improve. She is Victorian too so there is no go home factor
Rather not risk Pies picking up Harris at 2, we can still get Molloy at 3
Pies would jump at the chance of adding Harris to their forward line

Harris may well get traded to Carlton so Brisbane get something for her.
Lions would want Davey/vescio/Jakobsson and another player for Harris, draft picks don't matter to them

Get the feeling that we're about to swing pick 1 across to Carlton for Jakobsson and 1 or 2 more of their players rather than take Harris, so Carlton can take her.

Harris has already said Carlton is her preferred destination and it might actually be more benefitcial to us to play Jakobsson in that role whilst suring up a few other positions by getting a player or two that would be in our best 10 players - somebody to play Lambert's role even if they're slightly worse?

Or am I just speculating or underrating how good Harris is? For a marquee player she was quite underwhelming in the majority of games like not having a single disposal in the first half of the Grand Final - combined with the fact that she's made it clear that Carlton is her first option and Melbourne her second.

if i recall she suffered some injuries throughout the season which hampered her ability and plus most teams were playing two defenders on her making it difficult to impact

Still, Carlton was in advanced talks with Brisbane - they had already convinced Jakobsson to leave but they couldn't convince a 2nd player to go to Brisbane, so the Lions rejected the trade - so if they can convince two or more players to come play for us, I can easily see Carlton paying for Pick 1 to draft Harris because they've shown they want Harris, Harris wants to go to Carlton (so might be stroppy and a poor influence if she doesn't want to be with us in the first place given she hasn't nominated us), and are willing to give up players like Jakobsson to make it happen.

Tayla Harris trade up in air as lack of money means little incentive for players to relocate to Brisbane

ELIZA SEWELL, Herald Sun
24-5-17
BRISBANE AFL Women’s coach Craig Starcevich says it is too difficult to motivate players to move north without a cash carrot, as wantaway forward Tayla Harris remains without a new home on the second last day of the trade period.

Harris requested a trade from last season’s grand finalists to Carlton, but the deal has been challenging to get done as the Blues must find a player or players willing to move.

Harris has also been linked to Melbourne, while Blues forward Bianca Jakobsson has also had interest from the Demons. Jakobsson was initially thought to be keen to move to Queensland as part of the Harris deal.

The Lions are reluctant to force their marquee Harris into October’s draft, where the Western Bulldogs could pick her up for nothing.

It’s believed the AFL has rejected two proposed deals put to the Lions for Harris on the grounds of competitive fairness.

“The money is not there for players to move interstate,” Starcevich said.

“If you threw that up with a boy and said we’ll dress it up with an extra, whatever, they’d probably move but it doesn’t matter where we’re placed on the ladder, doesn’t matter what you’ve got to offer, it’s just too hard to move them, particularly if the players aren’t motivated in the first place.

“They form such great attachments to their clubs as soon as they get there, it’s really hard to move anyone against their will and the finance is certainly not there in its early stages for that to happen.”

The Lions on Wednesday announced the re-signing of Victoria star Kaitlyn Ashmore, which Starcevich said was a big win for the club.

“That’s terrific, that’s a huger endorsement for what we’re doing,” he said.

“But again, this time last year, it was hard yards to make those sorts of things happen. But once it’s happened and once people see what you’ve got to offer and they’re comfortable in the surroundings, then you’re in a much better place.”

Melbourne secured midfielder Ashleigh Guest from GWS Giants in an exchange for defender Pepa Randall.

One day left in the trade period, so likely Harris coming to the dogs in the draft
Like the men's trade period I wouldn't be surprised if a significant number of deals are done in the final hours.

Starting to think she's going to Carlton somehow. AFL knocking back deals for fairness but surely they're better deals than losing her for nothing in the draft?

Pick 12 for Deanna Berry.

In relation to her taking Jamie Lambert's spot in the team and significantly improving the draft position (now we have 2 of the first 3 picks), we've done well this trade period.

And you were right

Wish I wasn't! Surprising and disappointing we couldn't convince her to come to the kennel. Her and KB would've been imposing up forward and allowed KB to go in the midfield occasionally too. Anybody know why she was hellbent on getting to Carlton?
