I haven't compared the stats or crunched the numbers, but most agree they are the two best midfields in the comp - maybe Gold Coast third. Obviously Bont, Libba, Richards, Kennedy, Dale etc, Neale, Ashcrofts, McCluggage Dunkley are incredible players, but which would you pick? Overall results aren't relevant as the Lions have a way better backline (when healthy), whereas Dogs maybe slightly better forward line.

Lions. I like the Dogs - they’re a bit of a second team, and rate their best footy highly but given the potency of their forward line when it clicks (and granted they haven’t always had everyone available this season), they haven’t put the runs on the board enough against the good sides to suggest that their midfield gives their forwards enough against those good teams (and yes obviously their defence plays a role in those results against the other top 8 teams as well I’m not ignoring that).

Brisbane has put together a good record against the good sides with less out and out strike power up forward and their most consistent avenue to goal over the past decade in Cameron hasn’t had his best season and they’re still getting results so that says a bit about their midfield (and their defence of course)

im biased but i think brisbane's midfield is better balanced and more suited to competing against the better sides.

footscray look like millionaires and can put up cricket scores against poorer sides, but their midfield is pretty poor defensively. downhill skiiers is probably too harsh of a term, but they frequently get opened up on turnover because their mids dont really like to work back to help their defenders. i think their poor record against the top 8 teams this year is reflective of this.

brisbane's core trio of dunkley, neale and mccluggage all really compliment each others strengths and weaknesses. berry + dunkley in particular are great assets for our team defence and really let the other mids focus on winning the ball and doing damage forward of centre. i dont think footscray have those same defensively minded players to cover for their front runners.

Actual mids the dogs probably just, knife’s edge. Libba and Dunkley hard to split?? McLuggage and Richards again too close to split. Bont v Neale, Bont takes this out, both brilliant. Berry is more consistently on the park than Treloar, and probably takes his replacement in Kennedy, just, Kennedy has been very good, Berry is a gun. Ashcroft is just ahead of Frejiah similar ages. Brisbane has a much stronger and more balanced list all up. Brisbane is much better defensively and this is the big one for dogs fans, they all know it but footy media are as shallow as a pond, it’s our bottom 6 players are not that good. Brisbane’s bottom 6 smashes ours I reckon.

Don’t hate the post but Ashcroft just ahead of Frejiah? Really?

About a year ahead I reckon. There were commentators saying they’d pick Frejiah over Reid if it was re-drafted. I wouldn’t necessarily do that but that’s the future this lad has.

Yep.

Richards, Butters, Bont, Sanders, Freijah is pretty impressive when you then add in Kennedy, Liberatore & Treloar.

Neale, Dunkley, McCluggage, Washcroft and Berry

With support from Rayner, Bailey, Lashcroft (and Annable).

Could make a case either way. Neale the only one on the wrong side of 30 for us next season (turning 33). Bont 30, Treloar 33, Libba 34.
