Is this a realistic possibility or would Paxson prefer to keep #1 for fear of trading away a future star?

To those that watch college ball, how would Beasley and Rose compare with previous high picks?

Thanks.

No chance at all that it's dealt.

Apart from anything else, having the #1 pick just brings so much publicity and excitement to a franchise that dealing it would be hugely unpopular.

As for Rose/Beasley, both will be fantastic.

Rose isn't nearly as good a passer as Paul or Kidd, but he's an absolute athletic freak, and he makes good decisions. I think the best comparison for him would be Gary Payton - he has a chance to be that good on both ends of the floor.

Beasley is a little harder to predict - a lot of it depends on how he measures out. At worst, he'll be a very good scorer.

the bulls will keep their pick but i wouldnt be surprised if the heat traded down with the number 2 pick to a team like the clippers who also have a very high pick...the heat could try and get something big out of it like elton brand and the pick the clippers have (i think its 5 or 6??)...the heats window is still open to go back to the finals in the next year or so, so they might want to think about doing something like that... i think it depends on who the bulls choose with their first. the heat needs another superstar forward so...

if the bulls choose rose i think the heat will choose beasley at 2...

if the bulls pick beasley i think the heat will trade down to get a ready made good ball player and a pick from 5-10

No chance. I listened to John Paxson today on the podcast and he genuinely seemed torn, he knows Rose is the character guy but its obvious Beasley could be a one of a kind player.

I don't think this will happen. The heat want to draft Rose so that they have the best backcourt in the NBA. In addition to that, right now the heats best option at pg is Marucs Banks... If anything, I could see them trading down if Rose goes #1 because they have Marion and Haslem already in the roles Beasley would play.

I can't imagine Chicago trading their pick, especially as they already have salary cap issues meaning they can't trade it for a ready made star or anything.

dont forget rose only came onto the national stage in march...it wasnt until march madness which is where people started to notice him...granted its a great characteristic to be able to a star when the main stage arrives but the heat will need to determine if he is a consistenly brilliant superstar over 10 years or...whether or not he just had a hot month...

i think the first part is the true part, i believe he will be a star, but still the heat need to cover all bases here...

Rose was 2nd or 3rd overall on every mock draft for the entire year. March Madness simply vaulted him into contention for no.1.

the kids gonna be a star like i said no doubt...

however imagine a heat starting line up whcih consisted of wade, marion and someone like elton brand...throw in the early pick 7, 8 or 9...thats a big 3 that almost matches boston an instantly puts them back in title contention now...as good as one of these kids would be im sure if the that if they could make a trade for a ready made star and a pick still in the top 10 who could turn out to be a player with 10 year potential.... that its definately something to way up or at least think about making..

they have options

All good in theory, except;
- Clippers are getting royally screwed.
- Even if Clippers were happy being royally screwed, in any trade salaries have to match. So Miami would have to package another 14-15M worth of contracts together with their 2nd pick. And they don't really have contracts that big that the Clippers would take.

The only way your proposed trade works is if the Heat include Marion, in which case the trade makes a lot more sense:
Marion + 2 for Brand + 7

good point...how big is haslems contract??

i think it would be a fair trade if it was

haslem + another heat player + the number 2 (lets say its rose) to LA
Brand + the number 7 to miami...

i think the heat would much rather give up haslem than marion... but either would be required to make the trade happen like we said though...its unlikely but if the heat were to think a trade i think this is the only sort of scenario they would accept

Isn't Brand a free agent this summer? Or has he re-signed? The media were going on and on about him coming back from his knee injury for the last couple of games to prove to other clubs he still has a lot to offer. If he is a free agent it would be fairly stupid to trade for him. The only other player i'd want from the Clippers is Corey Maggette who is also a free agent.

FWIW I'd rather Wade, Rose, Marion, Haslem + centre (Blount)
than
Wade, Mayo/Gordon/?, Brand, Haslem/Marion.

**may need to be corrected with those free agent blokes...just taken from http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=2008freeagents
