Re: If Melksham became the equal of Stanton.
I dont think Stantons as bad as people make him out too be, but I also dont think hes as good as some make him out to be. I prefer not to look at % efficiency when we talk about a player like Brent Stanton because it can be a tad misleading.
It is true that he has a fantastic engine, and is quite consistent in gaining disposals unless heavily tagged out of the game. It is more the quality of his disposals which are concerning. I frequently see him look up the ground, see that there is nothing on offer, and bomb it to open space. This move is probably kinder on his kicking efficiency than it deserves, especially when 9 times out of 10 the ball hits the deck and is retained by an opposition player.
Am sitting here hoping that Melksham becomes a more skilled mid than Stanton.
80%? You've got to be joking.
2009 Average Disposal Efficiency:
Chris Judd 70%
Gary Ablett Jnr 75%
Nick Dal Santo 73%
Joel Selwood 72%
Simon Black 66%
Brent Stanton 73%
Stanton is unfairly maligned by Essendon supporters and other BF idiots, but opposition coaches aren't as blind, this is why he frequently cops the main tag. My only issue with him is his lack of defensive pressure. If he picks up in that area and kick a few more goals per year he could take that next step towards being in the upper end of midfielders in the league.
