I have met a few of my favourite players. There are a couple of highlights that have happened.

The day after my niece was born, we were having dinner in Lygon Street and a bus load of Dockers players pulled up outside where my family and myself were sitting.

Ashley Presscot and Luke Toia came over to where we were sitting and said hello to me. I told them that I had become an aunty for the second time.

In 2001, I got to meet the Hawthorn Football Club players down at the club during the Locker Auction Function. That was great to meet and chat to all of the players. It was the Tuesday before Crawf dakked Sam Newman.

Bumping into Graeme McMahon, David Parkin and Aaron Lord whilst down at Point Lonsdale.

Why would bumping into Luke Toia be a great thing for you? I mean you are related to him and all, you could see him whenever you want.

It was a surprise to see him over here when he was recovering from a knee reconstruction that he had.
I didn't know that he was going to be there.

The Lions are still relatively unrecognised around Brisbane. So they get to move around pretty well uninhibited

Living close to both the Coorparoo Ground and the Gabba, we see them all over the place.

Brownlow medalists in the supermarket. Captain at the local mexican restaurant. Twins in the local nightowl. Coach at the local video store. They seem to be everywhere.

Tony Free, Justin Murphy and Mark Merenda at a Ballarat Maccas.

I spotted Ken Judge at the Sebastopol Oval before I went out and did some goal umpiring.

I spotted Peter Schwab and Shane McInerney at the Ballarat Football League Grand Final at the Eastern Oval this year.

I've seen practically the whole Geelong team at my work, at one stage or another. Heh, I should start a 'collection', the only ones I'm missing are Daniel Foster, Peter Riccardi and Tom Harley.

Only natural that a gay brothel in Geelong would recieve such patronage I suppose.

1993 Geelong side on a plane to Queensland in September of that year.

Leigh Matthews at church in Dingley, also 1993.

Brisbane Lions 2000 at the Parkroyal on St kilda road, having breakfast at the same time as us. Craig Starcevich doesn't know how to use the toaster.

Steven Greene while waiting to go into our finace exam last week.

Campbell Brown in my management tute this semester.

I have seen Luke Toia so many times. He and his young family are shifting over to Victoria. His wife had a baby girl two weeks ago.

Boom tish.

At least that way they don't shag each others wives.

Hey I am with you.

The mention of Justin Murphy jogged my memory....

...about 8-10 years or so ago I was winding down after a night on the town in the Carlton Hotel in Bourke Street. Now, for those unfamilair with this establishment it is a 24-hour pub and possibly the scungiest hole in all of Melbourne.

Anyhow we are having a quiet beer when a middle-aged woman comes over and starts to chat me up. A drunken old barfly, I had no interest in her whatsoever, however she was with a group of pretty tough looking male friends, so I continued the conversation just to keep the peace. Anyhow, she keeps asking me to go back to her place in Northcote or somewhere and I keep trying to change the subject. I mentioned football and she tells me she is Justin Murphy's mum! At the time Murphy was still with Richmond, so I commented that I was a Tiger supporter, which was the wrong thing to do as she was all ver me like a cheap suit. She dragged me over to her table and introduced me to various cousins and friends telling them that I was coming back to their place. When I tried to make an excuse I had some massive mean mongrel of a bloke stand over me and ask why this woman was not good enough for me.

Pretty well petrified at this point I told them I was just going to the loo, and made a run for it down the stairs.

I can tell ya now that Justin ought to take a lesson or two from his Mum (if this woman was actually her) on how to tackle a bloke to the ground in a contest. She'd win anyday.

Trained with the Hawthorn team in 1998 when they came to our school for a training clinic. That was the peak of my career.

Got into the Collingwood rooms with a couple of mates after that amazing qualifying final win over Port this year, thanks to Joffa. Had a long chat with Chris Tarrant, Mark McGough, Rupert Betheras and Eddie McGuire among others. Michael Malthouse ignored me.

Played on Chris Judd in year 10. He got about 50 touches and kicked several goals from half back. Was dropped to the 10B's after that and never got back in the A's. That was the end of my football career.

Seen Mick Martyn around a fair bit, also met Wayne Carey, Glenn Archer, Anthony Stevens, John Blakey, and all those mob at Mick's testimonial, years ago. Might have been '98 or '99.

Aside from the obvious at training/after games things, you ocassionally see a couple of footballers when out on the town- perth is that small a town. There are actually several Eagles attending the various unis, so occasionally you spot one there.
Also ran into a blind drunk Scotty Cummings in Northbridge a couple of years ago. He was really nice, (or just really drunk), signed my shirt, although to this day I can't recall what he wrote... Something like. #squiggle squiggle, dots, circle, squiggle, straight lines, - scotty
Used to bump into Peter Bell at a certain pub in northbridge during the offseason- he'd be in there every sunday, sitting in the corner quietly sipping his one beer for the night, scoping the room.

Dave Rodan, went to my school, so they got him to come back awhile ago to talk to us bout what it was like being an afl football player. Someone asked him if being a football player helped him get girls and he said yeah it's like temptation island. :p :p

Well, I can top all of you.

I was working for a catering company at a function and saw:

Luke Toia
Anthony Stevens
Tony Woods
Leigh Mathews
Gary Ablett
The Pope
Mick Jagger

The list goes on. I even saw Wayne Carey in the toilet. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - it was an Olsen Family Reunion.
