Shaun Burgoyne is a legend of Hawthorn.

We all know what impact he has made on our great club.

As a club we owe it to him to get him to 400 games - no matter what.

To me this is not negotiable.

Right now the whole club is struggling including Silk himself.

He is the type of person who wouldn’t want any special treatment but Clarko must insist he is an important player especially at a time like this.

Burgoyne 400 games.......Hawthorn make it happen.

Yesterday was probably the worst I’ve ever seen him play, very uncharacteristic. We shipped off guys who were much more vital to the club and in much better form in mitchell, hodge and Lewis. I can’t see the club getting soft now. If his form lifts then all good, let him have another year, but we can’t afford to carry someone for 25 more games just so they can make a milestone. Could keep him at the club as a coach/mentor if he doesn’t go on

theres not many in the team playing with much confidence, hence the seemingly decline in ability, thats what the coaching group need to fix...

It is a bit doom and gloom to call it based on one (very) bad game.
He deserves a chance to show that it was just a bad day. However, I can't see him getting a contract for 2021 at this rate.
He needs to improve over the coming 2-3 weeks, otherwise it is time to blood another youngster (e.g. Walker)

I love the guy, but we need to regenerate the list.
I sure hope he stays with the club in some capacity though.

He'd know himself if he has the capacity to go around again.

I think the decision will be taken from him unfortunately, in the same vein as Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis.

With no super top-up, coaching beckons or a position within the AFL.

He's been amazing but the time has come to find the next 'break glass' hawk.

I’d imagine his weekly routine/preparation would be more impacted than most other players given his routine would have been ‘set’ over quite a few years now. Family would play a big role in that. Whatever his future holds and whether or not he gets to 400 games he has been one of the joys of the past decade+ and one of the best players i have ever seen.

He's slowed down dramatically. He's done now, never mind what he will be like next season.

As nice as it would be to see we don't owe it to him at all. He'll just be taking the place of a player that would likely be around in the future.

I wouldn’t be putting a fork in him just yet.

Let’s see how he rolls through the remainder of the year.

Agreed, i'd happily play him forward pocket for another season as well. He has enough guile and smarts to hit the scoreboard more regularly than our other smalls excluding Breust (or Wingard if we play him up forward).

No, no and NO!
He is cooked. Been poor for six weeks. Has lost all agility.
Should not be playing at the moment, let alone another season.
He needs a tap on the shoulder so he can announce his retirement and then we give him a Roughie style send off.

As sad as it is to say, there is nothing now to be gained by Burgers playing on.
We are not going to pinch a flag anytime soon.
Club comes first.

As much as I hated the way hodge, Mitchell and Lewis finished their careers and even Lake shipped off after a decent season.

The way Roughead, Stratton and puopolo have come to the end is worse getting picked week after week when they can no longer compete and then fall off.

Prefer Burgoyne to have some good games towards the end of the year. Currently he has earned all his games.

I have no problems with how finished giving their all but just not having it any more but fighting to the end and mentoring young players. Didn't go on too many years just gracefully lost his spot.

The week off was probably due to a slight injury and he hasn't quite bounced back as sharp, but yeah, there are 10 more rounds to go.
Plenty of time for the champ to turn it around.

Was terrible against the Dees, but thought he was one of the few players we had who could create a goal in the first few games of the year. One of my all time favourites, but hard to justify him playing every week once Breust and Impey return and Walker is ready.

Given the upcoming run of short turnaround games we might be able to selectively "rest" him in any event and give him the dignified exit he deserves.

Shaun had clearly slowed down last year.

Always had an extra burst of pace he only used when he needed to, tackler would be chasing and he'd just surge that extra bit to give himself time/space to get a quality disposal away.

I noticed he was getting caught doing the same last year.

He won't be getting any faster.

Magnificent career, long career, but final year (on top of anything else, as mentioned above, the shorter lists coming will mean curtains for many players in their twilight).
