The gossip in Crow town is that B Burton will be part of the Carey deal. interesting as I haven't heard anyone mention him as trade bait up until now. Anyone else heard this whisper.
Haven't heard it but if it happened I would not be unhappy.
I really rate Burton and anyone who takes a hang and kicks goals regularly will be an asset to the team.

Negotiation 101 Ambit Claim by the Crows. Nice move.

Now let us get serious about arguably the best player of all time.

Who will be turning 32 mid next season and hasnt played Football for a year.

You wont get much more than a first rd pick and an average player

Who may well be able to take advantage of the midfield that provides the crows with highest forward 50 entries in the afl.

Whether that fact lifts his trade value or not is what we must wait and see...I doubt it though

Nice try

No way would we accept your first round pick as compensation for losing one of our fav sons, but if you add Burton or Reilly to that pick then we are starting to talk business.
You knew the price would be high when you went after him, if you didn't want to pay it you shoudn't of entered the race. TIME TO SETTLE THE BILL.

The Roos are going to get 2 "somethings" for Carey at least because it would bne stupid to say "we traded carey for Burton" (slight talent discrepency there) or for draft pick number 14 (talk about pressure on the kid who we draft with that number).

For Peter Bell we got pick 6,8 and Sinclair (who was a bit rough at the time)

We are going to get something more than just "pick 14" for Carey.

I mean be serious

To be honest I would be more than happy if the club, faced with a choice between getting pick no 14 in one of the worst drafts for years or getting nothing in the draft, decided on the latter.

Hawthorn as well have said that they would be prepared to trade for Carey whether they were his chosen team or not, and then Wayne would have to make the choice between going to the Hawks or going to whoever will pick him up in the pre-season draft. At this stage it would be from:
1 - Carlton (if they don't lose their picks)
2 - St Kilda (probably wouldn't pick him up, salary cap and youth policy)
3 - Richmond (one of the clubs he knocked back)

Either way Adelaide would be told from the start to come back with a better offer, or start planning for another year of balls coming into (and straight out of) their attacking 50.

Heres a nice trade (Involves WCE)

Carey To Adelaide
Stenglein To WCE (Stengleins a WA boy)
Judd to Roos

I think thats a very nice trade:D:D:D:D
I am sure Judd would love to come home to Vic!!!

Now I know its not gonna happen.. but it is a nice trade:D:D:D

Go Roos

Here is a senario for you.

Crows refuse to give anything of value for Carey, so Carey enters the draft and is picked up by Carlton.
Resulting in
North, having 1 player less on the list, saving us valuable cap room and allowing us to resign our young guns that are currently out of contract.
Carlton, have Pagan and Carey and between them they successfully destroy the CFC with the same cr@p they pulled at North this year.

I'll give you Carey but if we can get anything close to what Denis contributed to the side this year we will have a good 2003.

I am confident we will finish higher next year.

We may, but I am pretty sure it would be due to the natural development of the playing list, rather than any vast improvements in the coaching box.

For what it's worth I think next year will prove to be as bigger challenge as this year was. Richmond, Sydney, Hawthorn, Essendon will all be much improved after pretty poor years given the ability of their playing lists.

St Kilda, West Coast and Geelong will do well with another years worth of experience under their young kids belts.

Opposition coaches will be putting in a lot more work trying to exploit the weaknesses of the likes of Teague, Harding, Sinclair etc than they did this year, and I wouldn't be totally surprised to see them have a dip in form for a little while because of it.

Anyway, I will be more than happy if we manage to make the finals again, not thinking too far ahead of that.

Do you seriously think Carey will help them that much anyway?
I'd be surprised if he plays more than 12 games due to various injuries.

I know we want Adelaide to think he is the answer to all their problems, but realistically they would be silly to give us too much...

I know allt his, but I have learnt not to speculate on teams form even 2 weeks ahead, let alone the next year. For every team that will improve, their will be teams that slide greatly. I cannot see us being one of those teams.

Pagan was instrumental in "galvinising" (hate that word) the team together for a crack at the finals last year. He still selected and coached poorly on many occasions IMO, but his performance in simply getting the team up was good enough for me.

I think there will be players that will simply love that he has gone. The players that will be most disapointed are the senior group, but such is their experience and professionlism, I doubt it will harm their performance.

I agree that the major reason for the improvement will come from natural progression of the playing group, but this will occur with less stringent conditions on the playing time given to the young guys.

It is all guesswork in reality. No-one knows. One thing I am sure of though, is the newly found confidence of certain players under any new coach. I am sure Wayne Brittain would wonder why Shannon Motlop could not crack it for a game, but Cochrane could, and why Troy Makepeaces best game at the club just happened to be in a position where everyone but Pagan thought he should be used.

Absolutely. What will happen with injuries is anyones guess, but he is better placed to go through a season injury free (relatively) than he has been for years. If he is out on the park he could be the difference that gets the Crows from 4th place to a premiership IMO. Worth a fair bit I would have thought, and certainly worth more than a number 14 pick in a poor draft year.

After hearing Steven Trigg (Adelaide CEO), he has been in regular contact with the Kangaroos & is very confident both clubs can reach a trade agreement for Carey. Apparantly the main issue holding up finalisation of a deal (before the official trade period) is the appointment of the Roos' coach. Carey is obviously confident of a deal as well as he is currently house hunting & has moved over here to start his fitness training under Steven Schwerdt . The other point Trigg made was that the Crows will not have to "sell the crown jewels" to get Carey.

With the Crows having a strong midfield, I reckon a few of our 2nd tier players such as Doughty & Gallagher may be part of the trade. Don't expect a gun like Roo, Macca, Goody or Sugar though as you have buckleys!

who the hell is sugar and what's that about buckleys?

doughty ain't a bad midfielder, although would prefer reilly and we'd have to have a pretty good draft pick if your planning on giving us just doughty or reilly from your current list
