Has anyone had a Buruli ulcer or experience with it?

It is a flesh eating bacteria. In Victoria mainly found in East Gippsland, Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas. Some cases have been found in Melbourne’s beachside suburbs.

Common thought it is zoonotic and may be found in possums and mosquitoes.

More cases in the Melbourne area. Let’s hope we don’t see further range spread over winter.

Buruli ulcers were originally found in Uganda and the first time they appeared in the Bairnsdale region of Victoria was in the 1930’s interestingly enough.

Possibly as development overcomes possum habitat, the possums get closer to humans and with the right breeding season for the mozzies, there is the odd outbreak?

Don’t think it’s much to worry about (just take usual anti mozzie precautions).
