I hate it that whenever something bad happens in this country, they make a point of saying how it has made news all over the world, especially the U.S.
Seriously, who gives a shit.

Now that's one that gets me.Do you think the people of Kinglake,Flowerdale,Marysville....etc,who've lost houses or loved ones, give a fat rats they've made the news in the U.S ?

It's just the media [the Hun especially] patting themselves on the back because it's a lot of their stories and footage being seen in the U.S.

Pretty sure these are classed as disease epidemics, not "natural disasters" as suck. Geez, AIDS has killed more people than this, would you class that as a natural disaster as well?
Even if you disregard disease epidemics, it's still not Australia's worst natural disaster.

ABC has an article about the media's involvement.

One thing that annoys me is the fact that the on screen journo's are wearing yellow overalls despite the fact they're probably in declared safe areas. All commercial networks and ABC are guilty of this. Not sure if SBS has done it yet...

What was truely disgusting was that Channel 9 reporter (Daniel Street) had rubbed ash and charcoal all over his overalls to make him look more embedded and 'caught up' in the disaster. Prob the producers decision, but still terrible form. :thumbsd:

I also felt like throwing up at Channel 9's reuniting of a husband and wife that were separated and evacuated to separate centres. Great that they reunited them, but they milked it dry - taking up about 10minutes of a normal 30min bulletin. Surrounding each with multiple cameras, pushing them to be more emotional, telling them what to do to look more dramatic. I can't imagine what they told the poor souls to do while the cameras weren't rolling.

I didn't know it was Daniel Street, but apparently they were about to do the cross when the producer decided his yellow channel 9 overalls were too clean, so they made him rub some dirt and ash into the overalls.

Despicable.

I can remember thinking it didn't look quite right.

Very poor form.

The Herald Sun have named the Koala that was drinking the water, 'Sam'.
That is ridiculously cringe worthy.

Does anybody remember a few years ago, a program (A Current Affair maybe?) did an interview with soldiers overseas and the guy being interviewed was asked "You have so many soldiers around you. It must be scary", to which he replied, "No, it's safe. Your producer told all of them to stand around me".

that was ray martin during the tsunami crisis, scooterb.

I thought it was the Today Show and it was a female host.Possibly Jessica Rowe, although there's doubts she's female.

Found it

Now that's one reporter who I can't work out why he's there.Isn't he a political reporter on ch9 ?

I was channel surfing at 6pm and ch7 seems to have a few female reporters I've never seen before. Not sure if they're interstaters or been bought in to beautify ch7s news.

I can't tell what network i am watching  :thumbsd:

I didn't think it was possible, but that was actually more cringeworthy than the chick wearing the face mask and telling us that it was so dangerous that they really shouldn't even be there.

Now that's one reporter who I can't work out why he's there.

Another one for that file is that horrid creature, Christine Ahern (who is usually seen harassing football personalities whenever there is a hint of controversy), who i saw doing a story tonight.

did anyone see last night when channel nein flew the chopper over and filmed people going back to their houses finding them destroyed?

i found completely tasteless and showed no respect at all to these people who have already lost anything.

"well, they wont let us follow them in and film them finding all their worldly posessions are now ash."
"fire up the chopper bill, well get the shot whether they like it or not"

The Southern Cross posse and their deadshit parents who live in Craigeburn, Narre Warren etc.

i.e deadshits on the cusp on the urban fringe with empty boring lives.

so... people who don't watch the news?

I thought it was only me.

I think these media types don't really get it. The last thing these people need is "Mel and Kochie" and Stefanovic5000 running around Whittlesea unchecked. Have these people not suffered enough?

This is a terrible tragedy and there is a need for the story to be told, but we don't need to fly down these abovementioned flogs from Sydney just so they can say in 6 months "When Victoria burned, we were there." They are not the story, they are insignificant in the grand scheme of things and it does not add any value at all to the story that they are trying to tell.

The shining light in all of this is, as has been mentioned, ABC Radio. No nonsense, no hype, no bullshit about Warrandyte North and Research coming under ember attack which would have panicked god knows how many people. Class act from all concerned at 774

Absolutely.

The whole organisation has been superb, but it's been broadcasters like Jon Faine who have shown amazing grace, tact and compassion that have set 774 apart from commercial radio.

The ABC TV news reporters have been great too - they just let people tell their stories without getting in the way.

The Herald Sun has apparently been randomly calling people from the affected area to 'see if they are alright' and whether they have lost property.

The callers seem disappointed when faced with someone who says that they are okay.

I am waiting for someone to punch one of these tabloid journos. They are bottom-feeding scum.
