What are the chances we see Vander and McNeil in the 1s again? Pretty slim I think. There are a few things that have changed that are working against them

1) game plan. we dont push right up and contest every single opposition disposal out of our F50 any more. We guard the corridor and let them kick into the pockets while EEEEVVEERYYYOOONNNNE gets behind the ball. Then in transition the other way, we want to move the ball quickly and accurately to dangerous fast forwards who can mark the ball and/or hurt the opposition. Nothing about these changes works in their favour.

2) There are 3 new small defender faces that look like holding their spots which pushes the likes of Bramble and Williams further up the ground, increasing competition for spots one the wings and half forward line.

3) Improvement in some other players: Jones, Hynes, Dolan... maybe davidson.... all younger and with more upside, particularly offensively which we are valuing in our small forwards more this year. (see 1)

Vandermeer has an insane amount of repeat sprints that could see him push back into selection

The stats have them very low for goals per game , pressure acts ,tackles and they rarely break double digit possessions. No doubt about effort though.

I can see Vandermeer coming back into the team. He had a good patch at the start of last year, is clearly rated by the coaches, and the younger guys will likely drop off as the year goes on.

I think McNeil, Vandameer, Gallagher will be lucky to get ten games between the three of them
I honestly don’t want to see any of them in the side unless it’s an injury crisis.

From the Adelaide game, Arty, Dolan & Weightman (later in the year) didn’t play. Treloar & Garcia when healthy are also potential options at HFF as well.

As far as that defensive HF role goes, Bramble's ability there is underrated. I'd keep Bramble there. His kicking inside 50 is excellent too

Bramble appears to be playing wing to me with Baker and Davidson playing more forward. Long term, I'm not sure that's what I want, think both Baker and Davidson are more suited to the wing but for now it seems to be working. Not sure if Jones' injury forced a change because Baker seemed to play wing preseason. Haven't minded Bramble staying in the team, happy that we've found others stronger at half back but I like that he can go to half back to cover an injury or if we need to move Dale if he is getting a heavy tag and we can leave Williams on the wing

Saw a lot of times Jaques starting on the wing and rolling back immediately, with Kennedy (or another mid) starting from defense and running into the stoppage and Bramble would be the one from half forward that moved into Jaques spot

It's a long season, injuries happen, there is 5 on the bench. Every player on the list will have a role to play and that's how it should be. The small pressure forward is the most interchangeable role.

I'm glad they have gotten rid of the "high" press, which resulted in so many over the top easy goals and we couldn't stop run ons. Finaly a balance between attack and defense. Many on here like me has been calling for this tweak for years.
