Id be very interested to see how Scully goes in the Agility Test at the Draft Camp. I know he's got excellent speed & endurance, but the thing that really stood out to me in those youtube videos was his lateral movement & vision..

His footwork in heavy traffic is something to behold. I don't know what kind of time he'd do in the agility test, but im thinking its gonna take a pretty special athlete to beat him in that area...

He's is very exciting no doubt, but you guys need to accept the possibility that we may not get him, some of you lot are talking as if he's already in the bag. We can still win 5 games with our draw, and try telling Bailey & the players that they shouldn't be giving 100%, im sure you'd get an interesting reaction...;)

I believe we can possibly win the following games:

Round 11 v Collingwood
Round 12 v Essendon
Round 14 v West Coast @ MCG
Round 15 v Port @ MCG
Round 18 v Richmond
Round 19 v North
Round 20 v Freo @ MCG

Lets save the Scully/Butcher talk till Round 20 boys.
:)

I believe we can but know we won't.

Don't get me wrong, I never watch a game or go to a game hoping they lose. I always watch for the win and even though I die screaming towards the end when I know it's all over, at the end of the day when I'm calm again and licking the hurtful wounds, I can look up and think to myself about how good next year will be, especially if picks 1 and 2 go in the direction they seem to be going.

I take the positives out of the negative basically. Yes, these honorable loses hurt but like they say, short term pain = Long term gain. Get on board 2010 and onward. Dees for dynasty. :thumbsu:

At the moment a win for me would mean we have made some progress in developing our players, which is much more important then getting high draft picks. I feel that our efforts over the last 7 weeks have been good, however there has been no improvement in our skills. We still make the same crucial skill errors at the wrong times. So a win will mean that our skills have been improved and our players have continued their development, which as i said is very important. There is no point in drafting kids if you can't develop them into AFL footballers. No one in the U/18 competition is 100% guaranteed to be an AFL star. Only that some are more likely then others. I'm sure the hype on Deledio would have been something near Scully's but look how that's turned out. He's a good player, but not the out and out star some people expect just because he's a number 1 pick. So it would be nice to have access to the top 2 picks, but a top 5 pick will be pretty handy anyway.

Jason McCartney has done a wrap up of the players he beleives are standing out so far in this carnival. Interestingly Butcher is not mentioned. Scarily a fair few are players ineliglible for THIS draft, but can be picked up by those GC scum with one of their DOZEN bottom age special picks.

Scully gets good wraps i wont post the rest of the players but the link is above :)

Tom Scully – Was best-on-ground. He has a fantastic work-rate and when others were starting to tire, he was still working and running. Early on, he wasn't as clean as what he normally is, but he settled in pretty quickly. His hands in close were unbelievable – they were lightning and able to find teammates in space. Tom finished with four clearances and 33 disposals, including 23 handballs. He hardly missed a target with his hands.
Draft eligibility: 2009 NAB AFL Draft

Sounds like a Melbourne player already, a bit handball happy but hey, that will change quickly lol.

If you havn't read Mccartney's posts before then you probably don't know his format. He writes on a few players from each game - those he considers standouts in the actual match, and rarely writes more than once on the same player. He will write about Butcher after the coming games.
There was also 2 articles posted about butcher on the AFL at the same time as Mccartney posted this article.
And the carnival has barely started, there is still quite a few games, and most of the juniors don't really gain recognition until the final games played at TD.

Also I would take Mccartney's opinions with a grain of salt, he writes to gain recognition of the players, a lot of players he has done write ups for the last few years haven't been drafted.

Gee.. Id expect a few wins on that run home that we have, just looking
at that - but, in saying that, I believe we have played out of our skin
in the past 2 months and with a young side, comes inconsistancy - which
is due to rear its ugly head..

lets face it, a lot of youngstars that have been playing well - will no doubt
fade out, I hope its not that case, but as you can see with Freo, players
like Hill and Ibotson, its hard to keep bringing the A game to the table.

Also, I think we will list manage this year, in roads have been made, we
know what we have - a very exciting list of youngstars, amongst a few
players on the outta, there will be some very tired kids come round 15-16,

4-5 wins is possible on our current form, which will be hard to maintain.

Hahaha so your not a fan of McCartneys views/efforts then? ;)
Fair play, he's not exactly a recognised talent scout, and wasnt aware that he rotates through the players! it will be interesting to see which, if any, players do the 'Jack Watts' and springs into number one contention after the carnival. any tips? Pre carnival last year it was all Rich and Natanui i beleive...

Mccartney does ok and his views are normally pretty solid, but he's in it to do match write ups and make note of players who stood out, rather than to scout talent.
This time last year it was Rich/Naitanui/Yarran, Watts wasn't really mentioned until he chose footy over basketball.

This year I'm liking Jack Fitzpatrick(Ruck/KPF), Nathan Vardy(Ruck), Jesse Crichton(Mid)(Tas)-really like this kid, very similar to Blease in the way he plays, fantastic blonde mullet as well, Jack Trengove(Mid)(SA) and Alex Carey(SA) are also solid types.

Before todays game I thought we were no chance at pick 1 and 2, as we have some very winnable games coming - Port, Richmond and WC all at the G.

Now after today, I am convinced we will get Scully and Butcher.

Wouldn't say no chance but I agree, i was ceratinly confident (and secretly worried)

prob beat west coast. We rarely beat Richmond twice in a season. Port will smash us. I rate us a chance to beat the bombers. We usually match up well and the boys will hopefully make amends for this terrible queens birthday.

After today, I'm thinking West Coast at the 'G' is probably the most realistic chance we have. I've changed my mind about the Port game. I think we'll probably get done by them now. We don't match up well at all with them considering their midfield pace and skill... Even Freo have been playing well on the road, so I mean that's only a 50/50 at best. Richmond will fire up now that Wallace has got the boot. North will be tough to beat (esp. at Etihad).

I can't see us winning another 4 games. Not after today...:(

3 wins at best for mine.. (West Coast/Freo)

Understand the pessimism Colin, but today looked like a bit of an aberration to me. We've still got the same team that pushed the Bulldogs to the limit after all. And don't forget there's still some quality to come back in this season (my namesake, that is :D )

I certainly think we'll be at least as competitive against Port as we were against Adelaide at the G, probably more so, since our lineup is stronger than it was that day. Port didn't even exactly smash us at AAMI either as far as I'm concerned.

We could win this one with a little luck, I think - not highly confident about that prospect, but still...

I'm glad that some supporters can see Pick 1 & 2 is coming :D

Scully will KILL those Collingwood midfielders next QB battle and the 4 points will in our pocket :thumbsu:

Butcher 2.5? It's only one game comparing to Miller for how many games equivalent to how many years of frustrations?

KTLK, your record seems badly scratched... might I suggest you take it in to your local music shop and requisition a replacement? :p

We won't get picks 1 and 2.

Should beat West Coast and Fremantle at the G.

More than confident we can knock off Richmond again, we are a chance against Essendon, the Roos and the Lions even though that's at the Gabba.

Can't be sure about Port either, as good as they are one week the next week they are worse than us.

That's 7 potential wins right there, now I know we won't win all of them but they are definitely all winnable.
